SubHumanRemains yeah mellos can be played in concert.. but not usually... the other term for mellos is "marching french horn" because they're easier to handle on the streets and field. omfg... my friend... a trombone player... got me a tshirt... it has a french horn on it... and under the horn is says "this blows" it frekaing rocks i almost cried when i saw it cuz i loved it so much. so i'm gonna design her a shirt with a trombone on it that says "trombones do it in seven positions" hahaha Cool t-shirt. xd

One day we were sitting in rehearsal and our band director was talking about this part that he really wanted us to bring out and he was like, "I've heard you guys do it before, you've just got to be thinking 'French-horns Unite!'" and so our 3rd chair goes "Yea, F-U!" It was hilarious.
So next year, when I'll be a sophmore in 2nd chair with more power, I'm going to vote that we make shirts that say 'F-U' on the front and 'French-horns Unite on the back.'

XD I wouldn't be able to do that since I've ended up uniting with the tenor sax. Would be fun to think of something though.

omg. i was the only horn in my band for 1 1/2 years until i started mentoring my friend Corey, a trombonist. we had some great times together. then we went to honor band. corey played bone of course... and for a while i was alone again. then i went to honor band,... SEVEN horns! it was amazing. i was 3rd chair... and we rocked.(actually i sucked then but who cares? it was 7th greade...) and now there are 3.
omg... ok. honor band 7th grade. it was lunch break and corey and i, along with a couple other friends got our pizza and were heading outside. the accross the cafeteria calls "french horn players are HOTT!!!" . i turn around and theres Scott, a tubaist. it was great... hilarious everyone was laughing. later we tried to jack a golf cart. but good ol scott and i have beed great friends since, i haven't talked to him lately though. hmm.... yeah. that is my memory highlight. xp

Only horn in the entire school. In the whole time I've been there I was the only horn ever to make it to band standard. I've tried to make 1st years pick horn but they don't listen to me. It's not the most bandish school though, just a concert wind band and a string orcestra. They're both fairly small, at least by some standards.

I was the only horn in middle school for a year or so. It kind of stunk, because I was always having to play uberly loud and by myself. Our band is relatively small for a 5A band. We have like 60 members in a 5A varsity band. Most have around 100. But right now we have 4 horns. And I'm 3rd chair. Which is fine with me, because I'm the youngest, and I never practice, so I wouldn't want to have to do any solos and stuff.

We only have about 30 in wind band. String orchestra is bigger. Even by myself I can't play as loud as is normal, they're all too quiet. Just gets a bit lonely, and I never get anything interesting to play because since I'm a small section I don't count or something. The fuss the clarinets made when they weren't playing tune once. At least I'm special. xd

Aww. That's a bummer. French horn // Low Brass Melodies are the best. I mean, what's so cool about a flute/clarinet/trumpet line -- people get to hear them in every stinking song. But you listen to good music, it's all French horn // Low Brass // Low Woodwinds. Like the Harry Potter music and LOTR music. I watch those movies and I'm like, "Woah, did you guys hear that horn solo?"

know, I love the LOTR theme. Gollum's song is less fun to play but at least the high instruments all have to do the same as us. It's lots of long held notes.

Oh, I 've never played that one. I think we did a LOTR symphony last year, it was the music from one of the battle scenes in the second one. I'm not sure.
But it had an awesome brass line.
Our marching show this season also had some sweet brass parts. It was called 'Tutenkamen'. It was wicked awesome.
