Rosaline shook his head quickly, a deep flush on his cheeks from what he was about to do (and he had to do it now or hate himself forever). "N-no... nothing like that... It's just... I...." He reached down and clasped one of Kai's hands with both of his own. "I...." He raised the other's hand and placed it on his own, fastly-beating chest. "I'm... not a woman...." he mumbled, gaze lowering.

He couldn't meet the other's eyes any more. He knew Kai would leave him now. Nothing - not even magic or love - could preservere through that shock. He would be alone... forever. He could feel insipient tears beginning to sting his eyes, but he would not let them form.

Kai gave him a shocked look but the despair he saw in the others face practically broke his heart. It all made sense now, that was what Rosaline had been scared of all that time. I was quite hard to believe but as his hands had touched theother's chest it was clear that the person with him was definately male.

"It's my fault." he said "I must have misunderstood." he moved his hands away from the other sheepishly, embarrassed at touching him somewhere so intimate. Instead he settled on putting his arms around the smaller man with a gentle hug.

"It's ok, don't cry." he whispered. "It doesn't matter."

It was now Rosaline's turn to be shocked. He looked up at the other, disbelief, confusion and shock all mixed together and etched into his features. "'It... doesn't matter?'" he asked tentative, almost thinking he had misheard the other somehow. How... how could it possibly not matter? Rosaline was a man -- an utter failure for his purpose in life.

"I... don't understand..." he mumbled slowly, leaning his head gently against the other's shoulder. "How can it not matter?" It was obvious that Rosaline could not see himself as anything other than imperfect - terrible, horrible, lying, filthy.....

"It just doesn't matter." Kai replied and let a small smile grace his lips. "We can't help being who we are. So whether you're a man or a woman makes no great difference. You're still the same wonderful person I fell in love with." he sighed "That's the only thing that's important."

Rosaline nodded slowly, although he didn't quite understand, but a small smile formed on his lips. Kai was okay with him being a man and, more than that, he loved Rosaline. He really, really did.... Truly... he was relieved. There was no way magic could do this. It just wasn't possible... or so he hoped.

Kai was certainly shocked at the smaller man's confession, but what shocked him even more was that it really didn't matter. He wasn't just trying to spare Rosaline's feelings, it really made no difference what gender his new love was. In fact a part of him almost prefered him that way.

He sighed contentedly and pulled the seamstress a little closer, feeling at peace for the first time in years.

Rosaline gently nuzzled his face into the other's chest - or more like his shoulder because he was beside Kai, not in front of him. His arms slid slowly around the other's waist and he pulled himself closer, a soft smile forming on his lips at the feeling of warmth between them.

They sat like that for some time, gently holding each other in a state of deepest contentment. Kai could not have imagined it would have turned out like this, although he really wasn't complaining. He'd never been happier, in fact.
There was still the rather worrying factor of what his father would do if he found out. No, no if, when he found out for there were spies everywhere in the castle.
He quickly pushed such thoughts out of his mind, resigning himself to enjoying the moment and not worry about the future for once.

Rosaline's eyes fluttered gently closed. He... hadn't realised before just how tired he turly was. He hadn't gotten much sleep due to the making of dresses and other clothings for members of the royal court and he had found sleeping last night next to impossible as his thoughts continually strayed towards Kai.

He had begun to doze. He wasn't exactly asleep... but he wasn't awake, either.

Kai looked down at the other man's form and smiled when he noticed that Rosaline had settled down and his breathing had become more regular with invasion of sleep. Everything felt right at that moment and all was as it should be.
After all whatever explanation was behind their meeting, they were destined to be together.

Rosaline shifted slightly so that he could be in a more comfortable position, leaning more of his nearly insubstantial weight onto the other. He reall was as light as a rose - or, at least, lighter than any human. The scent of roses seemed to have filled the entire room.

((And now, for reasons pretaining to plot! :B ))

Jillian had spent the last several days riding across the Nation - all the way from the Kingdom of Darkness, in fact - until he had come to what was thought of as his "home Kingdom." The Kingdom of Death. THe truth of his actual birthplace was unknown, but this was the Kingdom where he most frequently visited.

His first stop had been to greet the king - who had, for some reason or another, always been quite fond of him (most of the royals of all the Kingdoms were, which was quite useful for a diplomat). THeir meeting had been cut short, however, by a messenger and Jillian had been dismissed with the promise of another such meeting.

Traveling through the hallways, he caught a familiar whiff... roses? The Kingdom of Death was certainly not known for its botany, especially not roses. Roses... THat scent stired memoried for the diplomat - fond memories, for the most part, but.... He shook his head softly. That was silly. Rosaline couldn't be here. Of course, he was often asked to create garbs for the royals, but... but Rosaline had always made a habbit of not staying any longer than needed because of -- the curse.

((Dundundun. :B What is their relationship? You shall see. Maybe.))

Kai noticed that the smell of roses had become stronger as they been in the room. At first he had though it was just the sent of the garden where they had first met but after closer inspection he realised that the scent came from the smaller man in his arms. He shrugged it off, thinking that is was just some make of perfume that the other wore, but that did not account for it getting stronger.

Jillian followed the scent and, frowning, found that it led him to the prince's rooms. This was... not good. How long had Jillian strived to keep Rosaline away from the Death royals? The princes, in particular... Jillian swallowed uncomfortably, looking quite worried. Rosaline... he couldn't have... met... Kai, could he? That would be... bad. The diplomat shivered slightly and closed his eyes, inhaling a deep breath before letting it out slowly. He needed to get a grip on himself.

Well... Rosaline or no, he had been meaning to talk to the prince at one time or another... now was simply sooner than he had enticipated. So Jillian fixed an emotionless facade onto his features and knocked carefully on the door.

Kai was suddenly pulled from his reverie when someone knocked on his door. For a horrible moment he thought that it could have been his father, but reasoned that the old king would never want to visit him in his chambers and if anything important had arisen for him to do so then he would simply have entered without knocking.
Tentatively he called out to the visit. "Who is it?"

"Jillian, Majesty," the diplomat replied, his tone calm. His apprehension showed neither in his voice nor on his face, although his emotions were slightly betrayed by the way his fist was clenched ever so slightly. "Might I request we talk? That is, if it is not of any inconvenience to you royal self."

Despite his long-maintained contact with those of royal Death heritage, he still felt the need for (slightly less than detatched) formalities. Death was Death and had quite a bit of... pride in its bloodline. It would never do to insult any of the members of a royal line.

Rosaline stirred slightly in his sleep, the voice penetrating his subconscious. Something about that... that low, calm voice... it was... familiar... somehow.....
