"Me too."
"Good. Toby you're going to stay the night." Maia looked towards him, and then to Dari. She smiled at the latter, and added, "And then maybe we can go swimming. When do classes start?" she started to unpeel her banana, cutting it into slices and eating them.
"Do you have to work right away or do I get to have a class with you first?" she asked, glancing at Lori.

Huh. Well then. Apparently he was staying the night. He'd have to grab some things from home, though. He definitely hadn't planned for this.
"Who, me?" Lori asked, "We're actually down for a meeting at eleven, me and you." He offered a smile. "So we have a little bit of time. I do have some other work to do, though, so I can't stay all day. I don't know if anyone else gets you later...?" He looked up to the partners and Dari shook his head. Nope, just him, and he was sure he would have enough time to start working on languages if Maia was willing.
"Okay, so, yes. At eleven, you and me."

A meeting at eleven. That gave her some time. What would she do until Then, she wondered. "Okay. That'll be good." She was glad to have met one of the people she would be working with. She looked towards Toby. "Want to swim? I bet you're busy until tonight though. I can try teaching you some Gaelic later if you like."
As long as she didn't have to go back to her apartment.

"Uh... well, I'm on in fifteen minutes so I really shouldn't be swimming." Besides, it would be a whole ordeal to undress, swim, dry off, and dress again. The dress code here was a bit strict. You certainly couldn't come in in swim shorts. "We do have some work to do today, but I guess we're getting together later, so I'll see you then? You can home hang out in the office later if you'd like. Or you can explore. If you ask anyone they'll be able to get you back to the right wing." He offered a little smile, still a bit miffed that she had kicked him.

"I'll come see your office in a bit," she said. She glanced over to Dari. "You must have something to do too. Can I come along with? Help maybe?" She wasn't too keen on being left alone until she was scheduled to meet up with Lori. Exploring might cause her to become lost. She was pretty sure it would.
She finished up her breakfast. "If not I could go swimming. See if there's anyone there to swim with."

"I'll be going to the same office," Dari said, "and you wouldn't be allowed in the lab." He usually ended up assigned to one or the other when they weren't in the field. "You can feel free to explore the unrestricted areas if you'd like. Here." He reached into his pocket and came out with his cell phone. "Take this. You can call us if you get lost."
Lori watched the phone exchange hands. "Do you know how to use that?"

Maia stared at the phone for a long moment after it was handed to her. Huh. A small computer. "No idea," She admitted to Lori. "But I imagine it's a small communication device in case selkies get lost." She grinned. "Well. I know what they're for. But I've never actually used one." She'd never had anyone to call.
"How do I use it?" she asked, handing it to Lori.

Lori opened his mouth to correct her, and then chuckled when she revealed she actually knew. Hey, some people didn't! He reached out and took the phone, but remained half bent over the table to show Maia.
"This button turns the screen on and off," he explained, demonstrating with each statement, "and then if you want to call someone, you go in here." He opened Dari's contacts. "and you find their name, and touch it." He brought Toby up, knowing he must be on Dari's speed dial somewhere. "This is him. Then you press the green button." He did and waited expectantly. Toby's phone began to ring and he pulled it out of his pocket, smiling and tilting it side to side before he ended the call. "Dari is he on your speed dial?"
"Yes. Two."
"Okay, so. You could also do this. Hit this button, and then just hit four, and the same green button. It's just in a different place now."

Maia watched Lori: she was determined to be able contact them, should she get lost. "So this can reach you from anywhere?" She asked, looking to Toby. No wonder humans carried them around! They were very handy. She'd have to look into purchasing one.
"I want one," she decided. "Then I can call all three of you!" She smiled at the three men. "I'll go explore."

"Well, it can't reach us from the moon, but I don't feel like you're going to end up there today," Toby teased. "Just make sure you don't lose it."
"Oh, we can actually get you one. We'll be talking about things like that today." Lori sent a grin Maia's way and handed the phone back to her. Hopefully she'd have a better day that she'd apparently had yesterday.

"I don't know, I've heard there's ways to talk to people from space!" Maia returned the teasing with a grin. "On rocket ships and that." She beamed at Lori. "Really?" she asked, eagerly. They were going to get her a phone? "Great!" She took the phone from him, studying it again. "Are you going to call me, too Toby?"

"Oh, there are! That phone just can't do it," Toby said. His good mood was starting to return. Lori nodded and smiled when Maia asked if they really would, and then Toby spoke again.
"I'll call you if we need you-- actually, here." He took out his phone again, punched Dari's number, and held it to his ear. Dari's phone began to ring and Lori leaned over to show Maia what to do.
He didn't do it for her this time, preferring to have the selkie learn drag-and-drop herself. "Just touch your finger to the big circle, and then keep your finger on it, drag it to the green circle, and then let go." Cell phones had gotten quite a bit more intuitive, hadn't they?

"Well, who would I call from space?" Maia asked. She had no otherworldly friends: well a part from Dari. And while having a phone that could reach far off planets would be neat, there would be no point until after getting to know someone from up there.
When the phone began to ring, the sound almost startled Maia. When Lori leaned over and explained, she did as instructed and held the phone up to her ear. "Hi Toby!" she greeted the agent on the other phone. "So that's how you do it. No wires or anything." Technology had changed so much since she'd been born. "Well now I know how to answer the phone. Now what?"

Toby laughed at the greeting, echoing through the air and again milliseconds later through his phone. He hung up and tucked his phone away again, turning it to vibrate with his thumb as he did.
"Now I think it's time everyone got to work," he said, "I can stay with you a little while if you want to finish breakfast."
Lori was busy stuffing the last of his fruit in his mouth and starting to pick up to go. Unfortunately it was time to start getting to work.

"I'm done," Maia assured Toby, gesturing at her empty plate. "I'll go try to find the tennis courts and stuff. See if I can convince people to play my way. My rules are much better. Even Dari liked them. And if I can't, I'll go exploring until you ca me. Or until she got lost." Or found the salt water pool. She knew better than to believe the phone was water proof: she'd seen a number of frantic teenagers hurry out of the water and fret until they were able to go back to their hotel room.
"You're really staying tonight aren't you?"
