Nomad Rath
I suggest reexamining what has occurred.

Quote:
"Hey, Ali! What's going on? Everybody's running around!"

"Learania's guild. We gotta fight."

"What? Here?! Their outreach of evil has grown indeed to reach us here!"

"..We in their mountains, dumbass."

"But we're so high up! Evil people can't climb, Ali, it's a known fact! They must be using some new fowl sorcery..."

"...You think they usin' magic on birds?"

"... ...Those bastards! I'll make them pay for this... I'll do it for the poor innocent birds everywhere!"

".....Whatever, kid. Just be careful."

Quote:
"We're not attacking the village, you wench! You're just in our way!"

"Learania's guild, we gotta fight" coupled with "you're in our way" indicates to me that while they may not be explicitly targeting the village, they are targeting the ally party members. "You're in our way" also seems to indicate that rather than us going through them, they're going through us, and if we started in the village, and the map is shaped downwards, they are going south. We already encountered enemies in the village. Who's to say some of them didn't get ahead and are still waiting?

Or am I overthinking this?

"We're yet again in need of supplies to help with reconstruction, and so this means another trip to Estarcia."

"Their road takes them through a path over the mountains."

"Near the top of the mountains, a quaint little village sits."

"As the team of guild members begin to head out from the village, they suddenly hear a loud explosion coming from back where they had come from. The civilians come out of their houses upon hearing the explosion as well and gaze about in confusion. However, they soon run back into their homes and lock the doors, when bandits come running into the village. "

"Aight, path's been blown and that was the last one. Won't nobody be gettin' to Estarcia from Learania through these mountains for a long time. Let's get the hell back to Sentria."

"Trouble down in the village! Looks like the other-worlder guild is there. Our guys are blocked off from us."

"We're not attacking the village, you wench! You're just in our way!"

Yep, so overthinking. My bad. I kind of assumed "we gotta fight" meant they were specifically targeting to eradicate before they moved forward.

So Wind Mage be dead, and fire mage somewhat weakened. If I roll a 4 I can canto and block the myrm and fighter after brutally murdering the Fire mage. I WILL BE THE TANK. Any objections?

Based on stats alone, even though you didn't have enough roll to Canto you'll still be the target of both enemies.

I shall not fall for your sneaky trick of LOGIC AND REASON. You're the DM, man! The job of fudging rolls and slipping in last minute surprises and tricks to keep us guessing!

LOGIC HAS NO MEANING HERE.

[But yeah I'll take your word for it.]

Basically, what Leo's saying and Oujay's confirming is that it's a DM's job to set up a shitton of misdirection in order to royally ******** over the players later.

Okay, so game 4 people, I got nothing, so I'll tell you what I've crunched so far.

Mihira, if you get hit by the Thunder mage, you've got a 40% chance of dying. Your HP tends to make up for it, but I still wouldn't bet on those odds. Seth, you've got 70%. Vika can soak up the attacks from the mages, and only the mages, if she had full health. (45% chance of dying now, 15% chance at full health) I don't know how many times I can gripe about Leena not trading people Vulneraries earlier like she was asked to before it makes a difference, because it sure as hell would be nice now!

But the problem is that those mages put one hell of a kink into the plan. So the only strategy I have is run. Run for your ******** life. People need to get out of range of the mages, and the first space to do that is 19. Except 19 is a trap, so Vika and Mihira need to retreat the hell back to 15. Shinon, Seth, and Rin should get to 14. This has the added advantage of using the trap on 19 to damage the fighter and the myrmidon if they follow us. Rin can eat an attack from the mages, because the most damage I could feasibly see her taking is 10. (They can kill her, but they only have a 1% chance of both doing so.) This comes with a risk, because at maximum distance Fire can touch 14 with Tomefaire and Thunder can touch 15, both doing a minimum of 10 damage to their effective unit.

Seth should attempt to help either Vika or Shinon via Canto if they don't roll enough to escape. Leena might wander up to 12 at the furthest so people can mug her for Vulneraries. If you have more than what you're holding in your convoy, get them out.

tl;dr: Run. Everyone needs at least a 3 on their move to get back to safety. If you don't roll a 3, then you're going to die. There's no way around it. Roll a 3 to move or you're dead.
