She didn't seem to be acting like he was seeing things. So much the better he supposed - meant he wasn't going crazy anyway.

"That's... cool." He blurted ungracefully. 'Cool'?! How old was he? Ten? Oh well... all he could do now was make a recovery. "It's unusual, right? Being able to teleport like that?"

He fingered the edge of the bookcover lightly as he spoke, not sure what to make of Sy. She was definately a surprise. He only hoped he wasn't the odd one out around here by not being able to do anything fancy.

"Yes, vewy." She frowned a bit as her 'r' came out sounding like a 'w' but continued to eat her soup as if nothing had happened. Not knowing that her oddness had him concerned that he was unusual, she was feeling slightly insecure herself about being so unique. Her mother had always said all three of her girls were special and unique, but it had lost a little of its comfort.

"The only othe' person I know tha' coul' do ith too was my fathe'," she said quietly. Wow. That was a somewhat frightening thought.

"Guess it's hereditary thing then, huh?"

The question was a rhetorical one, making him wonder exactly what he had gotten himself into by agreeing to come here. Not that he was afraid of Sy, far from it in fact - she seemed friendly. He just got the impression there was going to be lots of strange things happening - things the professor had declined to share with him before he came.

He glanced up, watching her drink her soup.

"Feeling any better?" he asked quietly, smiling a little.

She nodded and smiled in return. Somehow his company was comforting in the sort of way Tryon's was.. he was a safe person. Around him she didn't blush, become embarassed, doubt herself, and/or feel at a loss like with Orian, Aly, and Ieyasu. It wasn't really their fault she was less comfortable around them... it was all her own, but this didn't change things.

"I was trying not to run in'o anyone... I dun wanna get anyone.. ACHOO!" She turned her head and sneezed over her shoulder violently, which made her a little embarassed. Returning to her soup hastily, she fumbled for a question to ask him.

"Wha' brings you he'e?"

Upon seeing her sneeze, Kiro suddenly remembered something he should've really thought of a while ago. He fumbled in his pocket briefly and turned up a handkerchief, which he offered to her. "Here," he murmured as he did so.

Then he answered the question, averting his gaze a little. "I'm not really sure. The university sent me here... I'm..." he blushed a little, aware he sounded like he was boasting. "I'm a little ahead of my class. This is sort of, work experience for me I guess." He looked up then. "I'm not really sure what I'm here to do though. Nobody's really explained it to me yet."

"Goo' for you!" She exclaimed, seemingly entirely sincere as she clapped her hands together. Never having been to school herself, she had often heard it was very hard and trying. Her parents had taught her to read and write very eloquently, but most literature, history, and most of all, science, escaped her.

"No than' you," she politely refused the handkerchief, not wanting to wipe her snot all over his pretty piece of fabric. Somehow it just didn't seem right, even if that was what it was for. "Di' he sen' you to Aly?" she inquired, hoping she wasn't being too nosy.

He blinked as she clapped, not sure what to make of it. He'd always been quiet about his intellect, never really anticipating positive reactions to the fact he liked to study. Sy's reaction was, at least, a plesant surprise.

He took the hanky back as she declined it, murmuring as he did so. "If you're sure." He paused to return it to his pocket before continuing. "Yeah, he sent me to Alyosha. I'm waiting for a few days to find my feet before I go and find him to ask about it though." He hesitated before smiling a little. "I get the impression there'll be lots to take in. I don't want to miss anything."

"I'm su'e you'll figu'e it all out." Swallowing a spoonful of soup she wondered at how different Kiro seemed from Alyosha in her mind, although she supposed they'd work well together... better than she'd work with Alyosha anyways. Oh well, it wasn't the time to lament social awkwardnesses.

"If Alyosha is mean to you, you le' me know." She nodded and keep eating her soup, trying to finish it before it got too cold. Not that she could really *do* much of anything except pester the kitsune if he teased and embarassed the lad.

"'Mean'?"

That certainly wasn't what he'd been told about, who was effectively in his eyes, his new teacher. That being said, he hadn't been told much.

"What d'you mean?" he asked with a slightly worried frown.

Damnit, there she was messing things up again. With a resigned sigh she thought about whether or not she could possibly make things sound sensible to him after her blunder. It was easier when he couldn't understand her. "He teaseth me," she shrugged as if it didn't bother her, although it obviously did... although it did make one think what he could tease her about.

Suddenly putting on a smile she got up to wash and put away her bowl and spoon, not trusting herself to say anything else with more tact than her last statement.

"He...?"

Kiro trailed off then, more than a little confused. Alyosha hadn't seemed at all mean when they had met. While it was a brief meeting, the elder seemed to be nothing but friendly.

Kiro sighed a little in slight confusion, his mind now doubting the situation in a very vague sort of way. However, he realised, he could be totally misinterpreting everything. Or it could just be 'one of those things'. Things you didn't understand until you hit twenty.

Oh well...

"Who else lives around here?" he asked presently, resisting the urge to open his book and read. "I'm sure there are at least two more people here aren't there?" He paused in thought. "Was her name Nyxa? And I'm sure I ran out on someone else as well..."

"Nyxa and Ieyathu... " She sneezed over her shoulder as she put away the bowl and spoon. "Orian ith a guest," she added thoughtfully. She had met a couple other women briefly, but she didn't recall their names and so thought it was better not to mention them at all at the moment. Stretching a bit she wandered to the tablet to take her mask back into her hand.

"I thould go," she said quietly with a smile. "I just confu' you. You shou' talk to Aly." A soft nod of the head and a brief wave and she was back on her way to her room, giving him more than a few things to wonder about... but she knew if she said more, she'd only perplex the poor boy worse.

Alyosha walked out of his room, pausing for a moment to make sure he had closed over the door. the girls were still asleep, taking a lie in they had told him last night. He smiled as he walked down the corridor.

In his hand he grasped a small piece of white fluff that Alli had given him. He was glad she was finding things to do on the Island and ecstatic about her little discovery. He twirled the dirty white fur in his fingertips. He'd "beaded" it with plastic at the base to keep it all together. He walked into the main room of the centre then headed down the corridor towards Kiro's room, knocking gently on the door.

Kiro had been reading for most of the day, cross-legged and flicking through the pages of a book large enough to spread across both his knees when open.

At the sound of the knock, he pulled himself off the bed and moved to the door, pulling it open. In retrospect he shouldn't have been surprised to see Alyosha, but he would've been surprised no matter who it was.

"Hi..." he spoke clearly, his voice soft as usual.

Alyosha smiled at the young boy. "Hello, Kiro-kun. I was hoping you'd have rested enough to take one some work?" he said this with a slight rise to the end, making it into a question as he didn't wish to push the boy too hard.

Leaning on the door frame lazily he held up the small piece of fur. "I was wondering if you would examine this and write some notes down but.. I guess first you'll need to find out a little bit about the Aerandir."
