"Order" is such a misleading word. For us, it usually means PIZZA PARTY WOOHOO!

"They adore me for something I do not remember doing. Do you understand?" He shook his head sadly, hiding his face against his arms, and he looked up again with an unspoken question. He was wondering where he had gone wrong recently, because it seemed as if he had once been making some progress - as shaky as it had been. The nagging feeling returned, dancing there on the edges of his thoughts like a devil, complete with red hot pokers and a leering grin.

Paranoid all of a sudden, alert and searching his surroundings, he added, "I have said too much. I had first not planned on confiding in anyone of this, that it could have been ignored, and now I have only shaken the faith of those I have come across. I am a fool to think that anyone could have had the magic cure."

All good is hard, and all evil is easy. Dying, losing...

The Captain, having squeezed in between Coline and the acolyte who had moved over, also blinked at the appearance of the plates. It was certainly new.

He then eyed the plates on the invisible conveyor. He glanced at Coline, sharing a private joke with her about the huge selection. "What do you fancy, hm?"

It soon became apparent that the conveyor was really more like a current of movement. When one removed a dish in order to spoon out some of its contents, it was easy to place it back in the magicked stream.

Jessie chose mainly a variety of meats for his plate, and a large helping of broccoli. There was a reason for this: he'd never quite been able to adapt his tastes completely to the texture of the foliage which grew on the surface. When he was growing up he lived mainly on a diet of meat - mainly, for while the soil was inhospitable for flimsy plants, certain trees were able to grow in the barren underground when given the right magical edging. One type bore dark fruits with a bright, sweet flesh, similar to a plum. These fruits were generally reserved for the Houses, since a single one may cost the month's wages of a commoner, but they did fall into lower hands now and then and as such he did hold a strong liking for fruit. He took a plum from a dish which floated by, but the feel of its skin provoked a rather unfortunate memory. It was during his first five years of life; he had been walking behind his mother - always behind - past the walls of one of the richest House's gardens, and he found on the floor one of these rare dark-skinned fruits. He had picked it up and taken a bite out of it. His mother, turning at just that moment to see, had dragged him home and beaten him to within an inch of his young life.

He dropped the plum back on the pile of its siblings as if it had burned him, and glanced reflexively at Coline, unconsciously hoping she hadn't noticed.

...Cheating and mediocrity are easy. Stay away from easy.

Without warning, Lorika reached out and cupped the Overseer's face in her hand.

"You have the most beautiful eyes. I had never seen them before today. The colour... it is as if someone fused a pearl with a diamond to create the most precious, rare jewel known to man."

She, by an unconscious habit, stroked his cheek with her thumb three or four times. Then she drew her hand away, casting her eyes down again.

"Sorry. It's just, that's what I wanted to tell you earlier. ...I wanted you to know."

...and you will be lonesome.

Harata wandered back to her little private cove, and hoped someone would come along to talk. Eve would be nice, or Bakar.
((Lulz. There is a little cove now on Gambino-land which says, "This is Harata's." It's a fairly small place, near the bank. Lulz. Not really. Dun really know.)))

It had been so wildly off the course of his thoughts, the Overseer was struck dumb when she touched his face tenderly and spoke of his eyes. From under the shade of the tree, he tried a few times to reply, and shifted uncomfortably, stretching his legs out before him. Finally, he bowed his head, hiding those eyes behind his hair, and he could feel his skin flush out of self-consciousnesses and the embarrassment that came of her compliments. Lorika was very good at catching him unbalanced and vulnerable with her words and actions, and now was no exception.

"It must be different than following a boy with a clam for a head. I wish I had known what I was thinking when I choose that." He shivered, and his worn body again begged for more sleep and rest. It was too easy for him to become distracted, but Lorika had brought down the level of his restless energy again, that until now he had forgotten again how he kept managing to get himself in these predicaments. Though it did help him make his next choice.

"I will return to the temple with you, and I think it would be wise that we mention no more of this memory loss. If you could speak with those that know, the rumor may not spread. I may not be the straight and narrow path those of you need, but I will do my best to not damage what has been built."

And to help punctuate his point, he climbed to his feet and offered his hand to help the priestess stand.

Harata wandered back into the temple, and seeing Eve, ran to talk to her.
"Heya Eve. How was the feast? I was waiting outside, but it was getting cold, and I left all my clothing in here." Harata had not changed out of her training clothing, a sports bra and loose capris.

Lorika took his hand, but instead of standing simply pulled herself to an upright kneeling position.

"Overseer," she began, her voice and expression heavy with sadness "You're a completely different person to the one I knew. Perhaps there is no need for you to worry about recovering your memory... perhaps, the way things are now, we can forge some memories that far exceed the ones you have lost."

She was not going to mention that, for whatever strange reason, she found herself adoring the new Overseer to a far greater extent than the old one.

She still refused to stand. "Please forgive me... I somehow had forgotten that I brought some of the hot stew which was taken up from the kitchen. Would you care for some?"

She was glad that she'd thought to bring it. When she'd set off her thoughts had been on finding him. Now that she had found him... she almost didn't want to bring him back. It would be like throwing a silk purse to a herd of pigs.

...and you will be lonesome.
