"Thatsa bunch of bull..." Nat smirked, recklessly throwing his arms about her waist to make a point. "You're perfectly perfect in every way~" it was sappy but meant to be humorous as well. He released her after a sweet kiss to get Damian a chair.
"But she is right, you need some of this amazing home cooking! I promise I didn't make anything so it's safe..." He laughed as he went to pull up an extra chair. When he turned to grab an extra plate as well, he noticed the photo on the wall. the one form Richard and Lorey's wedding day. Lorey looked radiant and just incandescently happy, while Richard was beaming. Nat and Teagan were in the picture as well, though more off to the side, looking content. Then there was Raquel. Nat always had a habit of studying her face whenever her ran across a photo of her. She was just so...happy. It was how she should always be remembered, he thought. She deserved to be happy and Damian had given her that. He owed him for that...

Damian did see the photo as well, but still couldn't bear to look at Raquel's face without breaking down inside. So, he diverted his attention to the dinner, saying nothing about the photo. "It all looks beautiful..." he said, doing as he had been told. Soon everyone was seated, though Lorey needed a bit of help sitting down. Again, he saw how beautiful things were between her and Richard, and even cared to notice how Teagan and Nat were exchanging witty banter on nearly everything. They were so happy... and he was still miserable.
There was table wine set out, which gave him an idea of a toast. Lorey may have been keeping herself free of it, but he could still raise a glass. "Before we begin," he said in his best Centurion voice. "To Lorey and her baby... and her future child." A smirk was sent to Richard before he raised his glass. And to you, my dear, he said inwardly. Saying it aloud would ruin the mood, and so he let it go.

Richard had to laugh as he raised his glass with a blush, taking Lorey's hand in his.
Nat nodded a bit, smiling as he raised his glass as well, his arm behind Teagan's chair sweetly as he took a sip.
"Always a showman Damian..." Richard interjected with a nod, setting his glass down. "I'm glad you decided to join us..." His voice softened with a gentle encouraging smile, hoping to get him to loosen up a bit. He was here amongst friends after all, where he belonged.

Damian's own eyes softened. "Amongst friends again... I'm sorry I didn't try to reach out more," he said suddenly. "It's been... very hard."
Lorey reached out her hand to his, though it was a bit of a reach over her stomach and the table. Damian met her halfway. "We know, Damian. And we're here for you, just as we always have been. You aren't the only one who feels it." Indeed. Lorey looked over to Nat specifically. Maybe if they could talk in private after dinner, the healing process would truly begin. She wasn't so sure how Richard got Damian to even come out of his house, but it was an excellent first step.
Teagan had her hand in Nat's as everyone related to what had happened almost a year ago. It had been terrible, though she only knew Raquel for a short while compared to everyone else. Poor dear, she thought. It was completely unfair.

When Lorey looked over to him, Nat swallowed hard, eyes downcast as he squeezed Teagan's hand. He took his glass, staring down into it a bit before holding it up. "To Raquel... A wonderful woman who was unfairly taken away from us a year ago.." He spoke softly and solemnly, knowing Damian was thinking it a moment ago.
"And to Damian..." He looked up. "For being one hell of a fighter and not giving up..." His eyes met Damians. They were firm, grieved and yet held a strange respect in them.
Richard nodded as well, raising his glass up again just slightly, letting the solemn moment have a place.
It seemed it was almost taboo, to talk about her or her death. But she was someone they all loved and missed, it should be encouraged really. Trying to cope and relive happy times together...thats what they should be doing.

Although it pained him to be so singled out, Damian had to relent. Slowly, he raised his glass, and said her name with such a gentleness it almost made Lorey cry. "To our Raquel... our beautiful angel now." And he left it at that. If he could be allowed a bit of silence, he would be most grateful, and it seemed judging by the solemn looks everyone had, he would indeed get to keep everything else in.
"You know," Teagan said. "I heard her story... and I don't think I could have made it through life like that. She was strong in every sense, gorgeous, proved herself to be smart as a whip in school, and with you, Damian, she was happy. I know she was..."

"I can vouch for that..." Nat chimed in solemnly but still smiling. "She was always such a spitfire with these big ideas..." He chuckled a little. "It killed me a little when the world around her took her hope away..." He swallowed a little, knowing he contributed to that. "But when Damian came into her life..." He smiled gently, looking down at the table. "It was like she had new life...something to live for again..."
Richard nodded, picking at soemthing on the table. "You know...I'll admit I was very...skeptical of her at first...but she proved me wrong of my expectations, ad really surprised me...she was a wonderful person and friend...She really became part of this strange family we've got here..." He laughed a little, glancing over to Lorey.

Lorey nodded. "I remember when you brought her in the hotel room where we all used to stay. She was a beaten prostitute then... but somehow you two turned all that and yourselves right around. Just like me and Richard. We all came this far together... and even if Raquel got called home a little earlier than expected, we still have each other, and always will."
It was then that his eyes began to mist up. All this credit given to him, but she was the one who in the end made that decision to change. But it was over then, and all Damian could do was smile and nod.
"Yes, and I plan to help you all when you need it. I promise you."

"And We're here for you..." Richard added, giving him a even, steady look. A short silence sat in momentarily as a strange feeling of grief mixed with pleasant nostalgia overcame the small group as dinner carried on, though Richard wanted to temporarily move on to happier things.
"Oh! I've almsot forgotten, once you're finished eating Lory...I have a surprise for you." He smiled roguishly as he took his last bite of turkey,

Lorey was eating for two, so it took her a bit longer to finish of her meal. But once she did, her eyes went right to Richard's. "A surprise? You do always have the best surprises... does it have anything to do with that room you haven't been letting me into?" She gave her own sneaky look, because of course she had noticed how he wouldn't let her know what he was up to. though, try as she might, Richard had been fantastically secretive and she could make no guesses to what was going on.
"Ooh, surprises," Teagan said, looking to Nat. He knew what she was talking about. The best surprise she ever got besides having him come chasing after her in the rain was watching him chuck his stash into the water. That had been not only surprising, but definitely lifted her heart knowing he was finally safe from the drugs.
Damian raised his eyebrows at Richard. "What have you been up to?"

Richard smiled as he dabbed his mouth with his napkin before standing. "Come on upstairs and I'll show you..." He smiled with a mischievous gleam in his eye. He helped Lore stand and brought her up to where the baby's room would be. He opened to door and stood aside so all could peer in. Inside the entire room had been painted a lovely pale yet happy yellow. Though the thing that stood out most was the main wall, which was covered in carefully handpainted Sunflowers of different heights and whatnot. "Speaking of Raquel...she had given me the idea to do somehting like this if we ever had a baby...I was going to ask her to paint it." He admitted a little solemnly, but perked up. "Thats why some of the flowers are a bi askew...I'm afraid I'm not the most artistic person ever..." He blushed, waiting to see Lorey's reaction.

"Oh, Richard..." Lorey stepped into the room that still smelled like fresh paint. It was so beautiful to her, made even more wonderful because she had no idea that Richard could paint so beautifully. The leaves, she thought, were most impressive, while the flowers held an impressionistic style. Then again, seeing as life had never given him an opportunity until now to paint, Lorey couldn't be too overwhelmed by the sudden talent.
"Oh, it's beautiful. And ah-" Lorey held her stomach and laughed. The baby had given a squirm again. "Feels like they like it, too... Come here, you." Lorey held out her arms to Richard. One thing she would be grateful for was being able to hug him properly once the baby was born, but that could wait. Having the three of them together like that wouldn't ever happen again once that time did come. "I love you," she whispered.
Damian was very impressed with Richard's handywork. Raquel could have done better, he thought for just a passing moment, but seeing the beautiful couple, he stopped. Once again, he saw what he had one day hoped to achieve and never could have. No pregnant Raquel, no baby's room, no shared moment with little kisses and passed words. That was over.

Richard sighed in relief, taking her into his hold and kissing her sweetly. "I'm so glad you like them..." He murmured to her as he kissed her again.
Nat was very impressed but he hung back, letting the cute couple have their moment. He glanced to Damian, noting the slight pain hidden in his eyes. He knew what he was feeling... This is what Raquel had wanted... To have a husband who loved her and cared for her, a child of her own to cradle and raise... it hurt him years ago when he knew he couldn't be the one to give it to her... but how Damian must have felt being the one who could...but who's chance to do so was taken away...
"Hey..." He stepped back a bit and spoke softly. "...You'll have that someday..." He said with a strange hopefulness in his eyes. "...Raquel and I used to talk occasionally...when you had to go out or had to make a short trip...she always bragged on you you know... She always told me how you'd make a wonderful father someday..." He felt awkward trying to comfort and relate to this man who wasn't extremely fond of him at first, but he felt like he should at least try... after all they were both in the grieving process for Raquel...

Though the good intention was felt, the weight on his heart was felt still, too. There was no lifting that just yet. "Thank you, Nat," he said as he inched his way further into the hall so he could be hidden from their affectionate display. "But right this moment, I cannot really see myself being with anyone but a memory."
Especially not when he kept driving himself deeper into it. He even began trying to learn how to play guitar on Raquel's old instrument, just to keep that part of her alive. His notes were off and his fingers had started to become raw, but he would learn for her memory. Already he had inscribed some sheet music for songs she used to sing or play so those wouldn't die, either. So many things he had done to hold on to what he had lost that there was barely any tie for anything new.

Nat nodded understanding. "Oh I know...I just want you to keep in mind that in time...it will all get better...alright?" He encouraged with a friendly but still solemn smile. "We're all in this together...I miss her too...we all do...but in time the pain will slowly fade away or at least into the background...and we'll be left with the happy memories..." He knew deep down pain like this might not go away at all...but it would do no good in being pessimistic. They all needed a shot of happiness about now...well he and Damian anyways... The others seemed pretty content.
