MRE's are great, I typically keep a couple around. They're all good provided you actually heat them. A lot of them are nasty otherwise because of the congealed fat.

you can buy them at stores???

I believe shes talking about the MREs you get at the supermarket you stouffers?
but
those arent what we were refering to. the Military grade MREs are ment to be stored with you at all times and the only way to heat them is to use some sort of small explosive which work pretty good i might add.......but there still pretty nasty

Lol MREs at supermarkets, that's silly. I'm pretty sure I've got a better idea of what they're like than you do Darth Monkey.

The packaging on MREs claim that they can't be sold anywhere legally, however there aren't any actual laws restricting its resale. In fact if you'll do an Ebay search I'm sure you'll find at least a hundred listings. Also, from my experience it's common for people in the military to give away anything they don't have to turn back in to friends/family so MREs are practically everywhere.

They are cooked by a chemical reaction, not quite an explosion. The reaction causes water to boil.

Chicken teriyaki isn't on the current MRE menu and as far as I'm aware no MRE as far back as 1981 has been available in chicken teriyaki. Are you sure you don't mean beef teriyaki?

I also have older C rations and MCIs but those sit on my collection shelf.

i came to that conclusion because where i work iv noticed that manymanymany people buy STACKS of the instant meal thingys (im not complaining their fun to bag blaugh )
and
its been known to happen that some soldiers will use very small portions of explosive to heat their food for spme paticular reason or so iv heard and my mistake it wasnt chicken teriyaki it was Chicken Tetrazzini
PostPosted: Thu Nov 20, 2008 10:17 am

I'm pretty sure they're phasing out the chicken tetrazzini. As far as I'm aware soldiers don't have access to small portions of explosives aside from a napalm derivative that is used to start fires, and it's not technically an explosive. Aside from that, it's probably likely that using explosives for that purpose or even building fires is prohibited. I mean heck, they even require soldiers to conceal wrist watches so that light reflection won't give away troop position.

Btw, have you seen the Myth Busters episode in which they attempted to tenderize meat with explosives? Needless to say their attempts never managed to cook anything.
