The other thing that could be determined from the combination was the foe's potential weakness against physical attacks. Whether or not the gejutsu technique was successful, there was still a chance that Sukotto's opponent could either easily dodge the attack, or fall victim to it. If the later case was true and the genjutsu had failed, it would mean that the opponent would lack the proper skill to dodge Sukotto's physical attacks. This meant that the Uchiha could either continue with a taijutsu barrage borrowed straight from his original taijutsu, or merely end the battle quickly with his ninjutsu; it all depended on the number of opponents, his chakra level at the time, and how long he predicted the battle to last. The first move in a battle really did tell a lot about an opponent. With this in mind, Sukotto figured that perhaps Serena and Shisei's first attempt to hit him was actually quite an intelligent thing to do in a couple of ways. In all honesty, there was a possibility that Sukotto could have lacked the proper skill to avoid their attacks one on one, neither of the students would have known that unless they had somehow managed to spy on the Uchiha without him knowing. However, rushing in blindly like they had still seemed to have more drawbacks than it did opportunities.

If Sukotto was in the shoes of Serena and Shisei, he had decided that his plan of attack would include the following. First, he wouldn't attempt a double flanking move, where the two shinobi split up like a fork in the road and then attack their opponent from opposite sides, as this wasn't too hard to dodge if the opponent had been trained in understanding taijutsu. It seemed like the most obvious strategic thing to do, and most trained shinobi would expect something of that caliber, especially from two younger ninja who thought such a trick would be a clever thing to do. In all honesty, Sukotto would go for a double frontal attack in which each shinobi would run side by side and perform two moves at the same time directed at their opponent. It would be direct and streamlined, but a bit unexpected since they looked as though they were forming some sort of complex plan. In addition, it would be a broad attack that would be difficult to avoid, since if Sukotto moved left, he could be struck by a swinging kick from one way, if he moved right, he could be struck by a hooking arm the other way, and finally, if he moved back, he'd be trampled by the pair of charging shinobi. The only way out would be to move forward, which was risky, and exactly what the pair of shinobi would have intended to cause.

After having gotten himself well on his way to getting through the next mental exercise that he had set himself up for, Sukotto allowed his mind to relax a bit and switched to thinking about his previous battles once again. Having thoroughly covered his encounter with Maya and Baki, the Uchiha moved on to the next large scale battle that he had encountered in his shinobi career, his fight at the Chuunin exams against an archer-based shinobi named Tulleh. He opened this battle with his favored genjutsu and taijutsu combination attack, as the girl had seemed to take a strictly defensive stance. As he attacked, a violent shaking took hold of the arena that the pair of shinobi were fighting in, messing with the very foundation on which they battled. Thankfully for Sukotto, he had managed to get his attack off quickly enough for it to be unaffected by the quivering ground, which led to his genjutsu successfully fooling the girl. Unfortunately, the girl had been so adept when it came to acrobatic moves that she quickly slipped out of the reach of both Sukotto and his clone, easily nullifying the attack by merely avoiding both instances of the Uchiha and thereby making it so there had been no chance for the real Sukotto to land a blow upon the girl.

If Serena and Shisei were actually going up against Sukotto at full strength, they'd have a bit more trouble with figuring out how to get around his defenses. The Uchiha had switched back to the thought process that primarily encompassed the training that he was attempting to complete. He decided to consider a scenario in which the Raiken and Orochi were actually fighting an opponent similar to himself, but instead of remaining on the defensive, that opponent would launch offensive assaults at them as well. Since he knew that the Phoenix Flower would be unstoppable in the case of Shisei and Serena, Sukotto decided to simply consider his clone being limited to taijutsu and various assaults that combined themselves with taijutsu. The purpose of this train of thought would be to figure out what exactly the pair of ninja needed to be trained in, in order for them to be capable of downing powerful enemies. He first started thinking about their offensive strategy, as he figured that it would be the easiest thing to figure out. As long as each of the shinobi managed to adequately train themselves in at least a single offensive area, while maintaining proper teamwork training, the Uchiha firmly believed that they wouldn't have much trouble hitting most any opponent that they came up against, time was their only factor in that case.

For a moment, the Uchiha lost his train of thought and continued on thinking about his battle against Tulleh at the Chuunin exams. He had already covered his first assault, and how he had successfully executed a passive genjutsu against her in order to increase the accuracy of his taijutsu. Unfortunately, the girl's acrobatic skill far outmatched Sukotto's taijutsu skill, even while using the speed of the Phoenix form. This first attack did however tell him a fair bit about his opponent. While she was quite capable of dodging physical attacks, Sukotto could easily tell that she was weak when it came to defending against mental assaults, especially given that his genjutsu at the time hadn't been very powerful at all. In all honesty, the only skill that he had had at the time had come from the various books that had mentioned proper genjutsu techniques that he had read in the library of Shimagakure. If the same Sukotto that was mock-sparring with Serena and Shisei went up against the Tulleh that was in the Chuunin exams, he would have absolutely no trouble in fooling her mind into believing anything that he wanted it to. Unfortunately, as he had already thought of before, Sukotto hadn't really developed any purely offensive genjutsu techniques, so it would have only offered a bit of a boost to his inadequate taijutsu, a bit of a boost to his powerful ninjutsu, and a bit of a defensive buffer, as Tulleh would have been forced to guess which target to aim at.

Switching tracks within his mind once again, Sukotto continued his previous thoughts involving Serena and Shisei's offensive tactics if they were forced to face an enemy that matched his own strength. As he had noted previously, their offense would come with time. There was really no reason to rush it, especially since a team of two would always have an advantage over a single enemy, as long as that enemy didn't have any dirty anti-teamwork techniques or strategies up their sleeves, and Sukotto was considering an enemy that would be similar to himself, so that enemy would at least not have any sneaky techniques. Sukotto had a few ideas for how he wanted to train his squad mates' offensive tendencies. The main one involved training at least two primary offensive skills, one that would be recommended for use in one on one confrontations, and another that was meant to be used in conjunction with teamwork attacks. Basically, the former skill would be allowed to grow much more powerful than the later. The reason for this was because if a shinobi became overtly adept at a given skill, they wouldn't be able to use it in a teamwork attack unless they or their ally had a skill level of teamwork to compensate for that, enabling the team to use it in a battle.

After having taken a bit of time to think about what the offensive aspects of Serena and Shisei's training would potentially involve in the future, Sukotto switched back to thinking about his battle against Tulleh. After having failed to connect with his genjutsu and taijutsu combination attack, Sukotto knew that Tulleh's opening assault would be coming. He had attempted to prepare himself for the attack, but had experienced a bit of trouble, as the violent shaking that had taken place in the arena had left him unable to gather himself after having missed his taijutsu strike. In addition, Tulleh used her greater sprinting speed to her advantage, which Sukotto was no match for by any means, since his balance had been thrown off. She then launched an arrow from her bow at the defenseless Uchiha, striking him directly and dealing a heavy blow to the teen. Fortunately, the wound didn't take down Sukotto, which allowed him a bit of time to come up with a different strategy to use against the powerful foe. Since he couldn't have hit her with a taijutsu attack even with his genjutsu backing him, Sukotto decided to use the terrain to his advantage and hid from Tulleh, allowing himself a bit of time to prepare a large scale ninjutsu attack.

Moving back to Serena and Shisei's training, Sukotto thought about the various things that he had seen them use up to this point since he had been able to closely observe them in his squad. In Serena's case, she seemed to focus on using her staff and taijutsu, and Shisei had practiced a lot with his fan, and while he didn't quite seem ready to wield it, Sukotto figured he wasn't too far off. In addition to the fan, the Orochi youth also used taijutsu himself. Sukotto was quite interested in the potential of the Raiken's lightning element, as he hadn't every really seen it in action before. He wasn't sure how effective it would be, and depending on that, it could have either worked out to be the girl's power skill, the one that she relied on for one on one fights, or her teamwork skill. Sukotto guessed the former, as he had always assumed lightning to be a bit like fire in that it was difficult to control, which would be bad for teamwork, but capable of dealing large amounts of damage, which would be what she wanted for one on one battles. Shisei was a bit more difficult to pinpoint. Sukotto assumed that he was a wind type, as he was working with a fan, and that was another element that the Uchiha hadn't learned much about besides what he had read in the library.

Sukotto figured that the two of them would eventually be able to combine their elemental jutsu with their respective weapons, as a staff seemed capable of conducting electricity, and a fan could obviously generate wind if chakra was spent while swinging it. This lead Sukotto to a whole new idea, which soon became the one he favored most of all. The two shinobi would eventually work to develop special ninjutsu techniques that went along with their weapon. These moves would require both a skill with the weapon, and skill with ninjutsu, which would make them twice as accurate, and much more powerful than normal weapons. The pair of shinobi could use their jutsu and weapon combinations when facing foes on their own, and for teamwork attacks, they could use their weapons in their regular states, as it would reuire much less skill than the former tactic. This way, they would have ways of causing heavy damage on their own, and ways of using teamwork to cause damage that would be less on the individual level, but effectively more overall since the enemy would be struck by two attacks. Sukotto liked this idea quite a bit and really decided to try and see if he could incorporate it into his squad's training.

Since he had made even more ground with his training session, Sukotto decided that he'd continue thinking about his battle with Tulleh, as his thoughts about his battle with Maya and Baki had really helped him to figure a few things out in relation to his team, and he hoped that this battle would help to do the same. Thanks to a well placed smoke bomb and a bit of luck, Sukotto managed to get out of Tulleh's sight and quickly formulated what he felt was the best use of his skills for taking his opponent down. Since taijutsu obviously hadn't worked on the girl, Sukotto knew that he had only one option left, and that was his Phoenix Flower jutsu. By far the most powerful technique that he had witnessed in his age group, Sukotto also knew that it was his most accurate technique. Having hid himself from Tulleh's sight, the Uchiha knew that he would have the advantage of surprise on his side, making his assault even more powerful and accurate, which was exactly what he felt that he had needed to defeat his opponent. When it was obvious that the girl had taken a defensive stance and had lost much of her hope of finding him, Sukotto had made his way to the wall of the arena, scaling it by allowing a bit of chakra to flow from his feet.

When the Uchiha neared his unsuspecting foe, he began to form the six seals of his favorite jutsu at the time. After reaching the fifth hand seal, he had vaulted from the wall and released three fireballs from his jutsu at the girl, which would have surely defeated most anyone at his age level in Shimagakure. The attack was dead on and the girl had absolutely no chance of escaping it. Within moments, she was engulfed in flames and Sukotto had made a delicate landing on the ground, turning himself towards the girl to check how much damage he had done. While her hair was burnt, and she herself was charred by the violent attack, the girl seemed as though she had quite a bit of fight left in her, which was quite unexpected, to be honest. At the time, it felt as though the jutsu had drained more than half of Sukotto's energy, and he knew that he wouldn't be able to execute an attack quite as powerful. In addition, the Uchiha was quickly running out of stamina, as the girl's bow packed a punch, and if his guess at the time had been right, then he wouldn't have managed to withstand even just one more arrow landing against his body. Just before he began to think of a possible solution to this situation, the battle was interrupted.

Right when it looked as though the girl was about to take vengance on t he Uchiha for launching such a powerful attack at her, a few guards took control of the arena and alerted them that a few events had taken place which were much more important than the tournament itself. For his training session, it didn't really matter what had happened, so Sukotto didn't really spend too much time thinking about that. A few bad things happened to him after the fight as well, which wasn't anything he wanted to get into either, as it didn't have too much to do with his training. The important thing that he needed to take away from this battle was that even a highly calculated assault can potentially fail against an enemy with unknown abilities, so it was always a good idea to have multiple backup plans to be able to rely on if something didn't work. For instance, if an enemy used some sort of anti-teamwork genjutsu against Serena and Shisei, like the kind Sukotto intended on inventing or learning one day, then they would need to figure out a way to either escape, dispel the jutsu, or some alternative option that the Uchiha himself hadn't even thought of yet. Indeed, backup plans would be important to take into consideration.

Having basically finished up his thoughts relating to his fight against Tulleh, Sukotto continued with the exercise that he had set out to complete, which involved developing strategies for his squad to use on missions, as well as strategies for him to incorporate into the way that he trained the pair who had agreed to follow him for the time being. He had already covered the offensive part of the team's strategy, that was quite easy as there was much to choose from, and it really didn't matter what one used as their offense, so long as they continued to develop it and kept it varied enough just in case they ran into the odd shinobi who had a specialized defense in a given area of combat. That was the next track that his train of thought would hop to, defense. Having had many difficulties with defense in his own experiences, Sukotto had decided to pound the art of defense into the heads of both Shisei and Serena, making sure that the two did their best to cover all grounds when it came to defending against physical attacks, ninjutsu techniques, or genjutsu tricks of the mind. The Uchiha would first begin thinking about defending against physical attacks and ninjutsu techniques, as the two kinds of defense were directly related.

There were multiple ways to defend against physical attacks and ninjutsu techniques. The most commonly practiced way was simply avoiding the techniques by developing one's skill at dodging, or more rarely, one's skill in acrobatics. The concepts of defense were pretty much the same for dodging and for acrobatics, but acrobatics had a twist added to it: these high flying and complicated moves could also be turned into an offensive hand to hand style, which made the skill of tumbling quite useful. Sukotto had never bothered with acrobatics, as he had developed a different kind of hand to hand fighting that relied on regular taijutsu and his agility, rather than the commonly used ability of strength. In any case, the skill of dodging and tumbling were each quite useful in their own respect. Unfortunately for the defensive shinobi, simply attempting to avoid an attack with these conventional means didn't always work out so well, as shinobi had developed ways of combining attacks and skills together, making them much more difficult to avoid. This had lead others to develop more powerful defensive strategies, enabling them to avoid even these highly accurate attacks with the ease at which they once were able to avoid regular attacks.

One of these advanced defensive practices became so widely known that it had been required of the academy studetns to learn it before graduating to the level of Genin. Sukotto smirked as he thought about this, 'Finally, the academy does something right,' he thought silently to himself. It was known as the Body Replacement technique, or Kawarmi no jutsu, and allowed one to channel their ability with chakra into their skill at dodging. Unfortunately, it was obvious that this practice wasn't strictly enforced, as the Uchiha knew of students who hadn't learned the core jutsu like this from the academy, which was quite foolish. After deciding to move away from any rants about the academy of Shimagakure, as that would drain his energy as well as his time, Sukotto moved on and thought about the other ways to defend against physical attacks. Against certain assaults, a shinobi always had the option of fighting fire with fire, so to speak, and use one of their offensive moves to defend against an attack. For instance, a ninjutsu technique could be countered if another technique was launched at it, blocking the jutsu and preventing it from reaching its target. In addition to this, one could always parry with a weapon, or block with a taijutsu move, but the later was a bit more dangerous, as blocking with taijutsu meant that one would still take some damage, only about half or less on average, Sukotto reckoned, but it was still damage.
