punkanimefreec Cassie was forced to stop. she lifted Julius to his feet again. "I know, I know, I am too." she said glumly. she turned to the doctor. "do you by any chance have any snacks here?" she asked. "Yes, I can have them brought into the room or he can sit in the waiting room, thats where the food is." he said. Cassie looked back at Julius. she didn't want food right now, she just wanted to disengage the tracking device. "What do you want to do?" she asked Julius. Julius looked at Cassie as if she were Santa Claus. "Please take me to the magical land of snack machines." he said to her.

Cassie grabbed his hand and turned on her heal. she rolled her eyes. *Why do i like him?* she wondered sarcastically. they walked to the waiting room and Cassie said goodbye to Julius and walked away with the doctor. she felt weird. this was her first time being separated from Julius since they had arrived at the lab, excluding bathroom breaks and such. she sighed and walked into the room.

Julius looked at the snack machine and only three things caught his eye: Pocky, Moonpies and Bubblegum. *Which one?* he asked himself. *Ah screw it i'm getting them all.* he thought as he put his money in the machine.

"Uhh... bad news." the doctor said, keeping the look of guilt off his face. he didn't like this, he felt dirty inside, felt like a conspirator. "The EMP didn't work. that is one high-tech piece of machinery you got in there."
Cassie felt her heart sink. she wanted to tear her throat out. "Can you do the surgery?" she asked.
the doctor shook his head. he couldn't look at her. but he kept a straight face on. "I wouldn't risk it." he said.
Cassie sighed. she needed to get out of this room. she wanted to be with Julius right now, but she stayed put until the doctor moved. "I'm very sorry." he said, his voice sounded more sorrowful than she would expect.
she managed a smile. "Don't worry, nothing you can do about it I suppose." *I'll just become a slave again.* she thought disparagingly. they walked back to the waiting room, Cassie walking much faster this time, anxious to be back with Julius. the doctor almost dragged his feet but broke out in his usual stride before turning the corner into the waiting room. Cassie rushed over to Julius and hugged him. she buried her face in his shoulder but she didn't cry. she felt too numb, cold as winter, and hard as stone.

Julius was startled by the sudden glomp and almost fell over, as soon as he was stable he swallowed the pocky in his mouth and asked Cassie "Do you want some pocky?"

Cassie brought her head up. she took a pocky stick and put it in her mouth but she couldn't taste the sweetness of the chocolate or the saltiness of the pretzel. it tasted like dirt, but she chewed it up anyway and swallowed it.

"What's the matter? You don't seem like yourself." he said as he opened a moonpie and took a bite.

"It didn't work." Cassie stared off at the other people in the room. One was pacing and then he'd sit down but quickly get back up and start pacing again. there were kids playing and laughing. It made Cassie feel sick.

Julius went pale and put his moonpie in his pocket along with his other snacks. He kissed Cassie deeply and then hugged her. He was speechless. He wanted to say something but he cried instead.

Cassie looked at Julius. *This feels so wrong.* she thought. "What are you doing, crying?" she asked him quietly. *Shouldn't it be the other way around?*

She shook her head. "Not unless I plan on killing myself. He won't do it." she flicked her head to the doctor. *Coward.* Cassie closed her eyes. *Where is this coming from?* she asked herself. even when she had been abused, in all its forms she never felt such spite. only self pity and weakness. she breathed in deeply, calming herself down.

"Oh." he said as he wiped away his tears and pulled his moonpie back out. "Well that was awkward." he said as he took a bite of his moonpie.

Cassie stared at him for a minute or two, blinking several times in disbelief. "You're awkward." she said finally, shaking her head and walking slowly out of the room.
