Kara smiled and took Rhea's hand, leading her to the group. She couldn't wait to see Donovan again, and thought happily to see him and whomever they brought. However as she came closer she noticed something was not right and her smiled disappeared. She could not help but place a hand over her stomach and wondered what had gone wrong.

Normally when the fighters came back they were happy.

Rhea skipped alongside Kara, grinning happily; but when she saw the long faces of the hunters as they returned, her step lost its bounce and her smile faded. She held Rhea's hand tightly, and her wings faded away once again.

"What's wrong?" she asked Kara in a whisper, pressing herself against the angel's side.

"I don't know..." Kara murmured.

Though at the very least she knew something was wrong as she approached the fighters. Her hand went to her necklace as she clasped the metal feather. She looked for Donovan, which shouldn't be too hard seeing as he was the only human.

Donovan was there, lips pressed into an equally grim look, which wasn't good. Not just because he had a grim look but because he didn't have an annoyed look. At least when Donovan was annoyed it meant the problem (which when things did not go his way) was easily dealt with, this would not be the case.

He didn't look older perse, he was more... tired...

Out of all of the long faces, Timaeus was the only one who didn't look sad. He was angry, and every single one of his features showed it clearly. As the group entered the yard, he kicked his horse into a jog and rode straight towards the stables.

Celeborn sighed as he climbed down from the cart.

"For the first time," he murmured to Kara as he passed by her, "we lost a child ... he blames himself."

As he headed towards the house to inform Haradhel of their arrival, Rhea looked up at Kara, her face troubled. "What's that mean?" she asked quietly, sensing that something was seriously wrong but not knowing what it was.

"Ah..." Kara looked down at Rhea.

She wasn't sure what to say, how did one say this? Rhea would have to know, there were more dangers here than in Gaia...

"Well..." she stroked Rhea's hair, "It is a way of saying a child died."

Donovan dismounted his horse, he studied the little girl before him. he had not met Rhea nor heard of her, but he figured she was someone's child. There was no hug nor embrace instead he was thinking. He was... a practical person, he understood there were people you just could not save, it didn't make it any easier though.

"I'm going to find Lin to talk to Timaeus," he told Kara in Japanese.

He sucked at talking to people, he might as well get Lin to do so, she was probably going to do so one day anyhow he figured.

"Be back in a few."

He figured she was probably hiding out in the barracks again.

Rhea blinked at Kara's explanation. She knew what death was ... but she had never encountered it before, except in the animals that she knew they ate for dinner. Her young mind still didn't comprehend everything that death encumbered, but there was one thing that she knew.

"It makes me sad," she murmured, her eyes lowering to the ground as her hand tightened around Kara's fingers. "Why did the child have to die?"

Timaeus meanwhile had dropped his horse off at the stable and was making his way towards the barracks, his fists clenched tightly, his violet eyes burning with rage. He opened the door so hard that it slammed against the wall and remained open, and he headed towards his family's apartment at top speed, wanting nothing more than to be away from the people he was certain blamed him for the child's death, just as he blamed himself.

"Sometimes...." Kara murmured, "You can't save everyone. People do die, sometimes because of the action of others like the slavers... and sometimes of sickness or old age like humans and dwarves do, and sometimes by accident."

She really wished there had to be no lesson like this, but it could not be helped. Rhea might not see another death like this again, she might... it might be the death of a fighter one day... or someone else here. This path was not the safest, but at least it was living.

Donovan had already been inside when he heard the door slam open and shook his head, if he could hear that he hated to think how others in the building to hear it (after all he was deaf compared to most people here). Walking up the steps he stopped at Elros' door, and hoped that Lin wasn't off somewhere doing who knows what (which could range of a great number of things).

He knocked three times.

Rhea frowned, her brow furrowing gently.

"Someday," she vowed, "when my magic is even stronger, and I know how to use it real well, I'm going to help the children to not die! I want to help people! Everybody! To not die!"

And she looked up at Kara, her hazel eyes blazing with determination.

Elros had been chatting with Lin, as usual, when Donovan knocked at his door, and he blinked in surprise. Who would that be?

"Excuse me," he murmured to Lin, rising from his seat and moving to open the door. When he saw Donovan standing there, he nodded respectfully. "Donovan. I assume you are looking for Lin?"

Shael might worry though Kara thought, still helping the children, and everyone was a selfless thing to do, but she wondered if Rhea understood an unnessary death and death that must happen because it was in nature to do so.

"To help people live their lives to the fullest, by sparing them an unnessary death is a noble thing," Kara nodded as she put her hand on Rhea's shoulder, "But do please understand this. You cannot save everyone in the world, you can try, but understand that sometimes things happen. Otherwise you'll be resentful of yourself, and that wouldn't make anyone happy."

"Yes, I need to borrow her for a while," Donovan told Elros.

Lin leaned back in her chair a bit to catch a glimpse of her father in the doorway. Now that was odd she thought, normally he was at the Ranch house when he gets back. Sliding off the chair she made her way over to the door.

"Dad, your home," she smiled up at him, she was really glad to see him though.
Donovan chuckled, though a bit tiredly, "Hey, sorry to drag you out like this, but I need you to do something for me."

"Like Timaeus?" Rhea asked Kara quietly, her understanding keener than one would expect from a six-year-old, even of the elves. "He looked very angry ..."

And she couldn't explain why, but she had a feeling he was mad at himself. More than just Celeborn's explanation ... she could feel it, sense it deep within herself, just how far his anger ran.

Elros was curious to know what was going on, but he hid it well and simply nodded, his face as expressionless as always.

"I shall see you later, Lin," he told her quietly, "when your father is finished with you."

He knew she wouldn't go back to Gaia without saying goodbye.

Very perceptive of her, Kara nodded at this train of thought to what Rhea had said. She placed a hand against Rhea's back to lead her away a bit so they could talk.

"Yes, like Timaeus, you probably noticed haven't you?"

Well it was sort of obvious, Timaeus' anger but it could have been written off as any number of things.
