Sort of on-topic, but are you ever supposed to write っな, っに, っぬ, っね or っの?

Also, is it acceptable to change between 私 and 僕 in the same paragraph?

Eg.

私の名前はロレンスだ。昨日僕の猫はパンや蝦を食べた。 でも、犬が私の屋に来た。彼は猫の尾を見た。私はあの犬に天麩羅をあげた。 僕は犬の主人と話した。でも、彼らは出かない。彼らは私のテレビや寝室を焼た。あの日、公園で寝た。僕の猫を死んだ。:'(

The double N sound is shown using the ん, thats why 'minna' is written みんな instead of みっな.

You probably wouldn't want to do that. I guess theres nothing wrong with it, but they do have slightly different nuances of meaning. I don't really see a problem with it though. (The thing is, you used 私/僕 way to much in that paragraph. You could leave most of those out and have them be inferred by context. Saying 'I' too much is one of the things that makes you sound super foreign and unnatural.)

Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm still kinda awkward about leaving out the pronoun though, it's just so different...

A lot of languages do it. English is kind of rare in the sense that we have to keep stating the subject over and over most every time. Japanese is on the extreme end of the dropping stuff spectrum, but most languages do it, at least more than English does.

I somethimes leave out the pronoun in English after getting used to Japanese too much, then it took me a while to get over that, now I think I can get by okay.

I also sometimes invert the sentence order in English, as in S.O.V. instead of S.V.O.

Er, noob question: I know how to say that you want an object, or want someone to do/not to do something, but how do you say that you yourself want to do something? "I want to paint" is such a simple phrase, but I don't know...

'Nari, what you're looking for is the desirative.

gonk

I am unable to pronounce 'benri' without adding an extra 'u' in-between the 'n' and 'r.' I don't know quite why, but I've been trying to pronounce it for five minutes now and I still can't get it. D:

That's one thing that I find myself completely unable to pronounce too.

I always end up saying what sounds like "bendri" or, occasionally, "bendy." gonk

It's possibly better to go with saying "benli," though.

It basically sounds like "bendy", but with a more retroflex D. Thats how I always say it, and it works for me.

@Eccentric:
That's pretty much how it comes out for me, too.
sweatdrop I can't say 'benli,' either. There's something really wonky about that word...

@Vajra
I'll attempt it...
