Akiko watched the frog closely. It had definitely noticed her new location and had turned around with surprising speed. She was surprised that, as it kept getting weaker, it was somehow getting faster. Surely enough, it was coming straight at her, not flinching at all. What's more, there was a strange look in its eyes... she was wary of it now. Its motions were labored and ragged, and it was bleeding all over. Even if her attack finished it off, its sheer momentum could make it collide straight into her. This looked bad...

She noticed it was keeping its head down and its eyes up... maybe it was going to use its head to attack again? She had to be careful; Akiko wasn't in her prime right now, either. Too many more hits and she'd go down.

Without warning, the monkey that the last frog had been fighting had managed to move quite a distance across the battlefield in a short amount of time. Unfortunately, the frog didn't have its senses about it, so it fell victim to this well executed sneak attack, giving Akiko an edge against the infected beast. The single shuriken that the girl threw was enough to end the life of the final infected frog, which removed the squad of ninja from danger for the time being.

((Due to a bit of confusion with how Akiko utilized the Body Replacement Technique, Frog Two attacked before Akiko had a chance to use her attacking roll. Since Akiko's attacking roll has killed Frog Two, Frog Two's most recent attack against Akiko will be nulled, so she will not take any damage from it. The crew will take a look at this particular use of the Body Replacement Technique and will likely add a bit more description to the technique so that this confusion can be avoided in the future.))

Sukotto grinned at Akiko as she took down the remaining two frogs on her own. The Uchiha was quite impressed with the girl's performance, and especially with the way that she utilized the Body Replacement Technique. In all honesty, he couldn't imagine himself performing as effectively against opponents when he was her age. "Well done, Akiko, very smooth."

Sukotto's Mission Briefing Theme

With that said, the Uchiha turned to the rest of the group. "I apologize for the interruption, I never had the chance to brief all of you on our mission, but you've just witnessed it first hand. We've been tasked with clearing the areas surrounding Shimagakure of the infected creatures that have been continuing to threaten the remaining villagers." Sukotto looked the squad over. Their first encounter had already left them quite winded, and the mission had only just began. At this time, he wished that he had managed to learn a healing jutsu so that he'd be able to help the squad recover, but that couldn't be helped and he simply had to make due. "Shimagakure is depending on us for safety, as we are one of the only remaining squads in the village. In order for us to complete this goal, we will need to continue to be at full strength. How is everyone doing? Shall we take a rest for a while, or is everyone ready to continue this mission of seek and destroy?"

Before anyone could answer him, Sukotto turned to Xyn. "Nice job in the fight, both you and Munin. Is he doing alright? I saw him take quite a few hard hits. If he's still good to go, it sure would be great if he could fly to the village and gather the team some food. He will be able to make it there and back much more quickly than anyone else, and this task would be a great help to the squad."

After addressing Xyn, Sukotto turned to the other Chuunin that was present and spoke, "Thank you for showing up and assisting us in that battle. My name is Uchiha Sukotto, what is yours?" Sukotto held out his hand towards Seiko with a slight smile on his face. He was glad to have another Chuunin show up for that fight. There were quite a few frogs, and it would have been difficult to take them all on without the assistance of the Jio.

While Sukotto waited for the various replies that he was expecting, he folded his hands into the Ram seal and continued the chakra training session that he had been doing before the fight with the infected frogs had erupted.

Seiko was mildly impressed with the squads performance. There may have been some potential left in this village after all. As the leader began to speak Seiko took this time to collect his weapons back up. Wouldn't be much good to anyone without them. As he picked up his last weapons and his favorite. He sheathed his Tanto back into his wooden holder on his hip. The man then spoke to him and introduced himself as Uchiha Sukotto. So this man, was one of the legendary Uchiha of Shimagakure. It was interesting to be face to face with such power. Putting out a hand Seiko introduced himself as well. "I am Wolvine Seiko, from Tochi. I was sent to aid this village in its recovery."

Akiko began to walk around the battlefield. As she traveled, she collected her spent shuriken and made certain each of the frogs was dead. Knowing little about the disease except what she had just witnessed, she decided it was wisest to be certain. After all, the beasts seemed more than willing to fight to their dying breath. If there were any chance they could continue to fight, odds were they'd take it. So, she made small incisions under each of their throats. She tried to make it as ethical as possible, but at the same time she wanted to ensure they couldn't get up again. As she set herself upon the task, she vaguely heard one of the others compliment her. "Uh? Ah, yeah, thanks." She didn't want to sound insincere, but even after this minor task, she knew the battle would not be incomplete. After she had made her rounds, she returned to the group, catching the middle of the conversation. She waited until the two were finished speaking before tugging on the man's sleeve. "I'm sure Nadeshiko and I could use a bit of a rest. We'll be safer together, and when we're ready to join the fight again, we may have the advantage of surprise. Is this acceptable?" she proposed.

She felt weak. She was weak. Her attack had done absolutely nothing at all. Completely missed the frog, and on top of it, the disgusting creature had amanaged to strike her. She felt the taste of both bile and blood in her mouth, which warranted that her health was not in a good condition, and was now deteriorating. Another had joined the fray, much stronger than she was. She dragged herself away from the remaining frogs' sights, and curled up into a protective ball. She was so useless. A real shinobi would not shirk from their duty. Nadeshiko peeked out again, and saw that the other shinobi were fighting with a good deal more ease than she, and she attempted to calm the rising feeling of depression and shame inside her by telling herself that a shinobi that cannot fight would only be a hindrance to her peers. But the terrible feeling kept on rising inside her, and she curled up all the tighter, as the shame and embarassment drowned out everything else.

Seppen had watched the battle safely from up in the tree, as high up as he could possibly go before either losing his balance or having a branch snap. The cowardly little snow leopard had started further up when the human in his tree got her second wind and started fighting again. He consequently spent the rest of his time up there with his fur sticking out in intense fear. It's a sad, sad day when a large, carnivorous cat is afraid of a frog.

However, Seppen, though a little weak of heart, was not disloyal. Actually, he was a very faithful animal, and he could now both see and smell that his master was down there. And there were also other strange scents on her, ones he had never scented before; fear-scent, sadness-scent, blood-scent. He was confused, but even he knew that master was upset. She was in an irregular position, and did not seem to notice much of anything. Awkwardly climbing down from the tree, he lost footing near the bottom and crashed on his fuzzy little bottom. But he did not care; master was sad, and that was more important. He padded over to her, and gently nuzzled her bare fore-arm. Her skin was cold.

Nadeshiko felt something soft and warm bump against her arm, and she loosened just a little, one orange eye visible through the veil of thick black hair. The eye, already large and round, opened wider when she saw what it was. Or rather, who; she was looking into the unmistakeable furry white face and oddly-coloured eyes of her pet snow leopard, Seppen. It was such a shock that she didn't even think of how he had come to be here in the first place (don't worry; it'll come back). Unfurling herself, but still clutching her knees to her chest, she stroked the soft fur of the kitten and listened to his calming purr. Then Akiko said something.

" I'm sorry. What did you say?"

To Nadeshiko's surprise, her voice sounded thick and hoarse, completely different from her normal tone.

Xyn was weary to believe the frog he struck was really dead. If he had merely wounded it and it stopped moving, then it might pop up at any moment to attack when his guard was down. After a few moments, he glanced around the area. The last of the frogs had fallen as well. Was this what would be considered a first wave? The boy was a bit irritated that such small creatures caused them all so much trouble. Xyn's attention was quickly drawn to Sukotto as he addressed Munin's injury. Without giving any real acknowledgment, Xyn nudged his head at the bird. Munin started to flap his wings wildly as he was nearly pushed off his perch. He adjusted his stance and stretched out his neck to return the nudge as if to ask what the human wanted, but the creature's reaction was all Xyn wanted. 1... 2... 3...

"Five..." Xyn whispered, turning his eyes to Sukotto.

"He can still fly, but at one-third speed." Xyn had visually studied the raven's movements so many times that he could tell the creature's condition with only the slightest movements. Of course, Munin was the same way, and he was a bit annoyed that the human did so much better than he did.

"As for getting food..." Xyn turned his head away from the bird before speaking.

"If we sent him after food... we may not see him again for hours..." Fully aware of the creature's appetite, gathering any supply was possible except for food.

Sukotto took Seiko's hand and shook it. "Well allow me to speak for all of Shimagakure. This village is very grateful for Tochi's contribution to our relief. If you're up for it, I could use further assistance with this mission." After addressing Seiko, Sukotto eyed Maia as she began to walk around the area, making sure the frogs had died. It seemed as though she was already maturing very quickly, just like the other Tenmoki that Sukotto had known in his time in the village. She made a good suggestion about her and Nadeshiko resting, but the Uchiha wouldn't break the group up, as there would always be a potential ambush laying in wait around the corner. "I like your thinking, Maia, but these aren't normal circumstances. I'd hate to have you and Nadeshiko run into eight more of those frogs, or something even worse, and have the rest of us be too far away to provide any sort of help. We shall all rest together for a bit before we continue. We are in a hurry to complete this mission, but it won't get done at all if we're not at full strength."

The Uchiha then turned his attention to Xyn and Munin. He noticed that Xyn was carefully observing the bird as it madly flapped beside the Douken. The relationship between the various animal-human companions in Shimagakure never failed to amaze Sukotto. Their ability to know each other so well was something that he wanted all shinobi to have with each member of their squad. It was a high expectation, but would definitely save lives in the long run. The Chuunin had to stifle a laugh as Xyn said that the bird would be gone for hours if they sent him for food. Xyn was an interesting character himself. He seemed very serious, but some of the things he said were a little amusing at times. Sukotto made sure not to laugh just in case it would offend the younger ninja or his bird. "Noted, Xyn. We can't have one of our valuable members gone for hours and hours, and we can't waste time going back to the village. We will simply have to look for food ourselves." Sukotto looked around the area, rotting from the infection. He knew that this would be a perfect time for everyone in the group to practice a few of their skills while taking it easy. He raised his voice to address the entire group. "If you feel as though you've become a little weak or if you think one of your squad mates seems as though they could use a bit of energy, then a bit of food will do some good. I know that this area seems completely ruined, but believe me, there are a few natural food items in Shimagakure that are quite resistant to this sort of thing. They aren't easy to find though, so look carefully. I'll give you all fifteen minutes before we continue the mission." As the Uchiha spoke, he kept his hands locked in the Ram seal, focusing his chakra. It seemed as though it had become much easier to do while speaking and allowing his concentration to wander away from his chakra.

Sukotto-san raised some interesting points. It was too risky to separate the group just yet, and Akiko had a hard enough time as it was with the frogs. If they ran into more, and there were only two--or if it was something tougher than frogs, even--the two would be lost. "Understood," she simply replied. It seemed that Nadeshiko had finally responded. She... didn't look too good. Akiko wished that she had learned how to heal before leaving. If only Aunt Yuki had...

...Akiko flinched.

She shook her head. She couldn't bother with that now. There was still much to do, and she had to focus on the mission at hand. Speaking of which, if Nadeshiko was injured or sick, the best thing right now would be some food. It would help keep her warm, and it would do her system some good, too. Akiko was injured, too, but... she didn't feel as bad as Nadeshiko looked. "Don't worry about it," Akiko advised the girl. "Just focus on getting better. I'll be right back with something," she promised. She immediately went out to look for some berries or anything else she could harvest from nature's bounty. She came across some berries, but... it looks like the disease could infect plants, too. She moved on, hoping she'd find something.

Akiko furrowed her brow. She needed to find something. It would be so much easier if she could use her new jutsu. But... it wasted chakra like nobody's business. She decided it wasn't worth it; she needed the chakra for other things. If only she didn't have to worry about chakra! She looked around more closely at the patch of berries she had just passed. She had given up on it because of the obvious disease on some of them. But, perhaps there were others that were still potable. Even so, the proximity of the sick ones may affect the condition of the ones that, at the very least, seemed well on the outside. She shook her head again. She had to look elsewhere for the food she desired. Not too far, she saw a tree with a few nuts in it. She liked the sweet acorns around here; they were a pretty good snack, but they were hard to get around here. She jumped up to the nearest limb and shook it. She caught some of them by folding the cloth of her kimono with her free hand, but most hit the ground, and she didn't want to touch those. She lost her grip and fell back down, but she landed on her feet, losing only a few. There were enough left for a meager snack... it would get someone off their feet.

Akiko was surprised it was so difficult to find food around here. The disease had spread everywhere; it was tough to find anything that hadn't been transformed. She tried her best to find something else. But, from time to time, she had to stop and take in the scenery. It was so... sickly, yet beautiful in a morbid sense. Could something like this take out an entire shinobi village so easily? She shuddered at the thought. Eventually, she found a bush of berries that had somehow escaped the ravaging plague. She picked as many as she could carry, getting the juice all over her hands and kimono. Then, she walked the whole operation back to the others. She looked at what she had recovered; it looked like enough to get herself all the way back to full health and chakra. But, there was the matter of Nadeshiko. She was sick, yes, but she wasn't very helpful in the last fight. If Akiko fought at full strength, they'd fare a lot better in the end than if both of the girls were only operating at half their abilities. What's more, Nadeshiko may decide to run away from the battle again. Akiko hated to be cruel, but she had to think about everyone's survival.

She bit her lip...

...and walked over to Nadeshiko. "Come on, eat some of this," she urged the girl. "We still need your strength. You'll do better in the next fight; just eat."

Nadeshiko listened attentively to the others, although she was still feeling pathetic and helpless. It didn't help when Seppen whimpered for a bit, and Nadeshiko found blood on the corner of her mouth. She was completely unaware of the extent of her injuries. So when Akiko offered her some food, she was grateful, but her pride was further injured. She accepted with a quiet thank-you, and swallowed the handful of deliciously juicy berries. She felt less empty, but Nadeshiko could also feel something akin to resolve reappering in her stubborn mindset. She was pretty close to being half-dead, but she was dragging these other shinobi down; she should not trouble them any longer, and she could see that they weren't free of injuries themselves. Nadeshiko set Seppen down and, popping the last berry in her mouth, set off to find some more food. That was the least she could do after such shameful behaviour. Eyeing a small fruit-bearing tree nearby, Nadeshiko limped closer, closely examining its drooping branches. Unfortunately, the fruit had been entirely spoilt and unfit for human consumption.

Seppen had not objections to being set down on the floor again; his master was not so sad now, so he could leave her with a clear conscience. Without Nadeshiko around however, Seppen's curiosity quickly took over. The little snow leopard was now interested, very interested, in a certain black bird that was with a human boy. Seppen's little pink tongue lolled out, but fret not, Seppen would never eat the bird. It was almost as big as he was. How could he possibly get his mouth around it?

[enters from village]

The Lagoon had once been a rather beautiful place... but like everything else in this village, it too had been destroyed. Nothing more then a polluted pile of junk and debris, which gave the place an eeriness to it, rather then the peacefulness that it once held. With nothing more then a small sigh, Akemi continued to wander about, not searching for anything, just continuing her explorations of the island after the destruction. Kept her mind off of things, and kept her moving around so she wasn't just some bump on a log doing nothing and or getting into her usual trouble... That's just what everyone needed lately, more trouble.

Something had started to peek her interest though, as she started to wander towards an area that had seemed to have some activity. Maybe it was just her losing her mind, but she thought she heard something going on... And hadn't the lady in the village mention something about people coming out here for something? The girl couldn't remember... not that she was really trying very hard to. Shuffling through a few branches and bushes, the girl stumbled into an area that housed a few people she recognized from the village. Not saying much, she just scanned the area a bit. The one older guy, the one that seemed to be in charge, she recognized, along with the Goody goody Tenmoki girl. The rest she sort of recognized, but she couldn't quiet place them. "Something going on?" she called out to no one in general. Maybe it would be fun to stick my nose in where it didn't belong again... she thought quietly to herself.

Akiko watched as Nadeshiko started eating again. It seemed to do her a little good health-wise, but she didn't seem all that happy about it. Maybe there was something else wrong? Akiko was confused; this wasn't something she could figure out by actively studying it. The girl got up, and that was all well; perhaps moving around some would help her. Akiko started in on the acorns she had picked. She was surprised she had found them so close to the village--and that they were unspoiled, too! She got part-way through them when she picked up on another person coming toward them. When she got close enough, Akiko determined it was Akemi. She was glad; they were all injured a little, so having a fresh body would increase their chances of survival. Now, with Nadeshiko, they had a full almost-Genin squad. She almost laughed aloud at the thought. Still... the girl wasn't really tactful. She shouted out her message, which revealed their location. Akiko put a finger to her mouth in annoyance. Then, she watched their surroundings, making sure no enemies heard her, either. "Careful," she hissed. "Don't give our position away! There are still a lot of enemies around here."
