"Why do things like that happen?" Lin finally asked.

Realizing in a childish way it was very smiliar to her big sister and to her big sister's mother. It reminded her of Ruel, the person she liked stalking so much just because she wanted him to get use to her.

Lin looked up at Elros with a frown, "Nara-sissy had to go away too and that wasn't fair."

Elros blinked. "Well ... it happens because people are arrogant, they believe that they are better than other people - which is not true. Everyone is equal, no matter what they look like or what race they are. Few people realize this, though, because deep down, everyone wants to believe that they are better than others."

He paused.

"Will you tell me about your sister?" he asked gently.

"Well...." Lin thought trying to figure out what she would say about Elnara at all, "I don't get to see Nara-sissy a lot because she's all grown up and I'm still little, but I like to go visit her old home a lot, but she doesn't visit a lot. I think it's because her brother is a big grump. Anyhow...."

She had to stop otherwise she would go on ranting how the man was grump which made no sense to her because Earendil wasn't a grump.

"She has seven kids, which is weird because they're all older than me, even Idhril, but only by a week. Well... Silver isn't older than me, but that's it. She's very busy... like helping in the cafe and she helps my brother Yukito at the school because she can heal like him. She can do a lot of other neat things too, but I've only heard of it, and never seen it. I don't know really how she became my sister, only that she couldn't live at her old home anymore, which I don't know why because she looks perfectly normal to me."

Lin paused for a moment and thought about it.

"But... then again, I've never met a person that wasn't normal to me."

Elros's brow furrowed in confusion and he frowned softly.

"I'm afraid I don't quite understand," he murmured. "Where is her old hom? And why did she have to leave?"

He at least needed a context to work with.

Lin thought for a minute and replied, "In the desert, where the city is," she explained to him.

Though she didn't know exactly why Elnara had to leave it had to do with something about being difficult.

"And... I don't know, she's just different somehow, because her brother called her a freak the last time she visited," Lin frowned, "But Celebor punch him in return, right in the jaw, and then the person he was married to dragged him out. She looked really angry, and she never gets angry."

Elros was getting more and more lost by the second - all he really understood from that bit was that Lin's sister was from Tor Karad (possibly) and that her brother considered her a freak and that there was someone named Celebor punched him and was dragged out by his wife.

"And ... who is Celebor?" he asked, hoping that something would make a bit more sense.

"Celebor is Nara-sissy's oldest," Lin explained, "He's not that old though, he's like..." she tried to show Elros where Celebor would stand on him, "This tall, it kind of helped that were both sitting when Celebor did that, I don't think he would have reached."

She sat back down on his knee, tracing a random kanji with her finger onto his pants.

"They say," Lin added, "But I don't know if that's true, that Nara-sissy can do something that no other elf can do, but I never asked, because it seemed kind of weird to ask."

Elros raised one eyebrow. "That's interesting," he commented. "And you say her brother thinks she's a freak because of this ability? That doesn't seem very brotherly to me ... although, it's also not surprising, I'm afraid."

He sighed softly.

"I thought that the elves had learned their lesson with the last war," he murmured, more to himself than to Lin. "But I suppose not."

"The last war?" Lin asked.

She had been heard it referred to a few times, but never thought anything about it. So what did this last war have anything to do with it?

Elros nodded solemnly. "Yes. The dwarves were the ones to start it ... again. Believing themselves better than the others, they set out to destroy the other races - and very nearly succeeded in destroying the Soutland elves, I might add. The humans decided it wasn't worth their while to get involved - not, that is, until the last possible moment - and if the Westlanders hadn't rushed to their aid, they would have been lost."

He shook his head sadly.

"I only wish the dwarves had learned their lesson," he murmured.

It was a lot of sad talk, and it did make him sad to think about it. Lin wondered if that was why the other fighter elf they had met seemed a bit odd. She patted his knee to make him feel better.

"Did I make you sad?"
PostPosted: Thu Dec 06, 2007 10:07 pm

Elros smiled faintly and shook his head. "No, not quite," he assured her softly. "I remembered sad things ... but I am not sad. Being here, in the Borderlands, working for your father, I believe that there may be a chance that this world is finally turning around ... for the better. And that makes me happy."

He noticed suddenly that there was a strange woman wandering around the open middle area of the ranch. Strange, he thought, not only because he knew for a fact that she didn't work on the ranch - her bewildered expression alone would have given that away - but because she was ... a Southlander ... and yet not. There was something about her that seemed ... different ...

Lin looked and blinked, she looked a lot like her Nara-sissy, but it wasn't her Nara-sissy. It wasn't very obvious, but Lin knew that wasn't her Nara-sissy but she looked like her Nara-sissy, or at least a lot like her. She tilted her head and thought, deep and hard until a name came to mind.

It was pretty hard to forget considering Elnara named one of her children after the woman. Lin stood up, took a deep breath and yelled as loud as her little lungs would allow her.

"SERENITY!"

It was only afterwards she remembered who she was standing on, she looked up at Elros sheepishly.

"Oops.. sorry."

She hoped she didn't hurt his ears.

Elros looked down at Lin, his face stuck in a wince, his hands over his ears.

"It's all right," he murmured softly, smiling and lowering his hands slowly. "I should be used to it by now." He looked up at the Southlander, who had started in their direction. "Do you know her, then?" he asked curiously.

Meanwhile, Serenity (for it was indeed her) looked in the direction of the voice that she had heard calling her name and wondered who in the world it could be. She didn't recognize anyone here ...

But when she spotted Lin, she blinked in surprise, then laughed. Of course, one of the Winters children. Who else? That meant of course that either Donovan or Kara had to be nearby ... so what did they have to do with this place?

She waved and headed over to join Lin and the elf she was with.

"That's Nara-sissy's mommy," Lin pointed to Serenity, "She can't go home neither and she looks a lot like Nara-sissy."

She giggled up at Elros, because she was sure he wouldn't care whatever it was that grownups made such a big deal out of.

"She's really nice and came to visit us for a while."
