[OOC:] How about, to ease this better into a timeskip, Shiro's grandfather dies and he must stay to learn how to be elder. He makes Maria go back to Mesilici, where she grows into a fine woman in charge of foreign affairs. And she has to throw a party for visiting diplomats, including one raven elder? X3

Maria smiled and kissed Shiro's cheek. It was then, though, that a messenger came dashing through the door. His face made it clear that he only had bad news to convey.

Shiro's expression grew grave as he gently moved Maria aside. "Maria... Please stay here... I'll... I'll be back." he muttered to her before following the messenger.

Maria watched as Shiro followed the messenger, but she immediately followed only a few minutes after. This sounded bad, and she wasn't about to just let Shiro walk in without backup.

Shiro went to his grandfather's side. The old man was coughing hoarsely as he held his descendant's hand. "M....My boy... I... I am not long... for this world." he wheezed, Shiro standing next to the bed, in shock.
"N-No! Y-You can't leave Gramps! Y-You can't!!" the boy cried. He didn't want to lose his only family. But he opened his eyes as the elder wiped away his tears.
"Don't cry, my boy. It's alright. You... will make... a glorious elder... Goodbye... Shiro...."
"Gramps! G-Gramps! Wake up! Gramps!!" he cried, burying his face into the bed, tears pouring from his eyes. His grandfather, his only family, was dead.

Maria bit her lip as she listened through the door. She thought about giving Shiro a moment of privacy, but then she went in and put her arms around his shoulders. She didn't say anything, and she didn't expect anything to be said by Shiro. She looked away from the elder raven's body, and bit down her tears, holding Shiro close.

Shiro moved up against Maria, crying into her shoulder. He was alone family -wise. All alone in the world. At least Maria was there. There to give him some stability, some semblance of sanity as he sobbed and cried like the utter child he was.

Maria rubbed Shiro's back, holding him tightly. He needed her, and she glanced up as a few others were called in to discuss the situation, she glared at them. She must have been scary, because they immediately left the room, closed the door, and went elsewhere to discuss whatever it was they had wanted to talk about. She nuzzled Shiro, sighing.

Shiro stayed in Maria's arms. He wanted comfort. This was just too much. Soon, Shiro stood up, still sobbing a little. "I-I want to go lay down..." he sniffled.

Maria nodded, taking Shiro's hand and leading him down the hallway to the raven boy's room. She pulled him in, tucked him into bed, and kissed his forehead. She felt bad for him, and she was sad herself. She'd grown fond of the elder raven, and it saddened her to see him go so soon after meeting him.

Shiro laid in bed with Maria, cuddling up to her. She was the only thing he had right now. But... He would have to let her go. He knew he was next in line. Which means school was out of the question. "Maria... Whatever happens... please return to Mesilici. With or without me..."
