Tomorrow
"Wow...that was weird. I just..." He murmured. It was like a great, intense flash of pain - then nothing. Blood dripped from his nose suddenly, and he reached for a tissue from the box beside the bed, cramming it against his nostril. Time was flowing properly again - it was like Verandi's visitor had never even existed...

Time resumed it's slow ponderous steps, almost as if the conversation had never happened... but as Verandi took a slow deep breath she could still hear his words echoing through her mind...

...In the land of the blind, the one eyed-man is king.

That man had been more than a king long before he lost one eye... and even truly bind he would still be more than a king!

As she started to let the breath out again she frowned and pointed at the specialist suddenly. "You! Leave now!" There was a command to her voice that John had never heard before, it was a true command, not the new form of the word where someone said something and expected it to be done... the specialist would simply find his feet taking him past Grace and right out the door with no lingering need to return... that was the sort of command that was in Verandi's voice.

Grace's eyes widened as a shiver raced up her spin and she involuntarily took a step further away from the blond woman before she straightened her spine, assuming a haughty half-elven persona, her face smoothing away all signs of emotion. Grace was mostly mortal... but she would not allow the woman she had known for half of her very long life to scare her!

Verandi moved slowly to the end of the bed, folding the long cane and tucking it into one of the lab coat pockets. "We need to talk... it would be very bad if you died, or at least I believe that Ar... Raven would feel that way, yes?" She made it a question although it was obvious that it was nothing of the sort.

"To keep you from keeling over well before your time you need to find something that you have been missing, and you need to get over your mortal fetish and start admitting what you really are!" Her voice had a hint of power to it again, the kind of power that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end and your heart flutter a tad faster... it also tended to make people listen very carefully! This was the voice of a true seer, a being that knew for a fact what the future held for the man in front of her... of course she rarely admitted to the fact that there were always multiple futures to be seen in any person. It might also help that she was softly glowing... "Find what has been lost, to change Fate's design!"

That had always been a big part of the possibilities... to turn Johnathan Tomorrow back into Thor Odin's Son, he would need Mjöllnir and the confidence to properly use the hammer of the Thunder God. Oh he could easily go back to being the human dynamo, trying to fry other meta-humans alive with a bit of luck and lots of practice... but to truly step back into the shoes of a God, John would need to admit what he was and the hammer would forcefully remind him of all that came with the job!

It was a first step, and at the moment Verandi needed to get the big man up and moving again before Munin's former avatar managed to pacify the man even more

"Wha...I, just, wait..." John murmured through his tissue as the specialist suddenly turned on a heel and walked out of the room, before watching the beautiful blind woman approach him, his eyes wide as she spoke.

She spoke of fate, and admitting to who he really was - but he knew who he was! He was John Tomorrow, avatar of Thor, Norse god of Thunder...what else did he have to admit? "Mortal fetish? Look lady, I'm not a god, okay, i'm an avatar - i just possess some of his powers, i can't even control the weather! What the heck else am i supposed to do?!" He asked, his voice exasperated as his head began to pound once more.

He screwed his eyes shut and lent back against the pillows of the hospital bed, anger beginning to creep into his voice as he tried to figure out why he was getting these headaches, the thoughts making his head pound even more. "There is something wrong with me, and its not because i'm an avatar, or a god, or whatever - its something to do with me! You people have been poking and prodding and taking samples for days now - i want to know what is wrong with me!!"

"Stop it! No more games 'Andi... he is sick and confused and your stupid word games will not help him now!" Grace said with a cool force to her own voice as John demanded his answers.

"No games Eir... I am simply stating what I see as the clearest path for the man." The human facade was melting away... she had been beautiful true, but she had appeared fairly ordinary in her cheerful sun dress with her blond hair lightly curling just at her shoulders and those big dark glasses covering her eyes. Now that ordinary appearance was washed away in a spill of cream and gold... blond hair became truly gold, glimmering and heavy around her shoulders, and the sundress and coat shimmered and shifted into a long white gown edged and belted in gold ribbons that curled down around her arms moving and shifting slightly to as if of thier own volition... if one could stand to look long enough one would see that those golden ribbons were actually individual golden threads... the threads of Fate binding the goddess to her purpose.... the only thing that still seemed real about the woman were the large dark, modern, sunglasses that hid her eyes.

"Sometimes... Johnathan Tomorrow, there is no fate worse for a man than admitting to himself that he is not the man that he wishes he was." Slowly Verandi reached up a softly glowing hand to pull the glasses away before she opened her eyes to lock her gaze with John's azure eyes.

User Image
With a knowing smile the golden eyed goddess, Fate Incarnate disappeared... at least she had the flashy tactics down pat! xp

Blinking, trying to erase the after immage of those sightless golden eyes out of her vission Grace let out a long breath and shook her head. "I hate it when she calls me that!" stare

"I beg your pardon mister Tomorrow, she isn't normally all overly dramatic like that... unfortunately normally she only uses that tactic when she sees something else very... not good... in the other possible futures." She tucked a curly lock of golden red hair back behind one pointed ear before looking down at her file folder with a sigh.

John found himself breathing heavily as Verandi tranformed right before his eyes, her doctors smock and sun dress melting away to show the flowing robes, bright as the morning sun, waving and shimmering like strands of gold...

He forced himself to look away as she took off the sunglasses, hr golden eyes making him look down at the bedsheet covering his legs, her words digging deep into his soul. When she finally did vanish, only then did his breath slow, a deep sigh emittting from within the bottom of his lungs as he rubbed the bridge of his nose, his headache seeming to recede now she was gone.

"Dont worry yourself..." John said quietly to Dr. Grace as she tried to explain Verandi's actions. "...I have a...recurrent dislike of people who know the future. It...it makes them do strange things...it makes them fatalistic."

He frowned at that last sentence even as it left his lips, as if he didn't know why he said it, but felt it had to be said anyways. He shook his head and smiled to the remaining woman with a tired grin. "...At least I know you can help me...right?"

Grace smiled sardonically and perched herself on the chair that Hono had previously occupied, trying to look a bit more sympathetic, or at least not to leer at the bedridden man over the edge of her file. "That depends on what you consider help... I am... I am no more Eir than you are Thor! So I can not miraculously fix you with a wave of my hand."

She flipped a page and her eyes shifted slight as she read what was written there again. "I can however, explain to you what is wrong with you... so if you consider Knowledge as half the battle then yes, I can help you!"

"You are not sick... there is no virus or disease in your body or blood stream. The problem is quite literally all in your mind, or at least in you brain! You heal extremely fast, your brain tissue as well... The bullet scrambled your brain, but the damage healed... I would be willing to bet that it healed almost instantly, since that kind of brain damage would normally stop the heart and lungs and all the other internal organs so that if it had healed slower it would have had a lot more trouble starting you up again!" She flipped the page and read more to herself, summing it all up for him.

"The problem that you keep experiencing is that your brain is healing, but with scars... scar tissue in the brain means that you start losing memories, and then feeling, and slowly the scars will overwhelm the brain to the point where blood no longer can flow and with your healing factor that would be a very slow death... a living vegetable until your body ran out of magic to heal you." She looked up at him then, hoping her understood the full severity of that.

John chuckled a little as she sat down, professing her lack of divinity. "I don't assume anybody could help anybody else with just a wave of their hand...that would cause more problems then it would solve, i think..."

Then he sat quietly, watching her as she explained his situation.

He was not the smartest man around....but he wasn't a simpleton either. He understood exactly what she was talking about...

His own body was killing itself. His healing factor was broken....or perhaps, was not meant for such delicate organs such as the brain, which needed to be whole to work, and not just patched over by useless tissue.

He looked over to the bathroom door, the sound of the shower still coming down within. "...How long do I have?" He asked quietly, with a reserved tone.

"You could have all of eternity... if you never had to heal your brain again, but considering the fact that I believe you brain is trying to heal the damaged synapes to memories that you can no longer access... that is the reason for the sudden headaches and nose bleeds. Something triggers a memory, but the path to the memory is damaged so your healing factor tries to fix the problem but only manages to make it worse... and then there is the purely phisical healing... it saps your energy and your healing factor tries to kick in again and causes a bit more damage when it can't fully heal all the damage, including the scar tissue in your brain." Gray-green eyes were sad. "Months.. a year at best... unless..."

"Months...a year at best..."

He seemed to sag in his bed a little when she delivered the news, as if someone had taken all the air out of him....

"...Unless..."

Bright azure eyes leveled at her. They were not desperate - John was too much of a realist to clutch at straws without knowing whether the straws could save him or not - but they held a definite intensity.

"...Unless what?"

She sighed and looked very unhappy. "Unless... you want to try and trust Verandi to lead you towards a longer life." She said it like the words actually tasted bad, they were truly a bitter sort of medicine to a woman who was a modern doctor and a magical healer... trust in Fate.

"She truly wants to see old souls like you and I do more than just live out our mortal lives... she would lead us all to glory and world domination if she thought her purpose as set by the universe itself would let her." sweatdrop

He shook his head and sighed, running his hand down his face and over his mouth, scratching at his beard as he did, obviously irritated by the notion.

"Isn't she supposed to be Fate incarnate? What else could this be but Fate itself? Would she go against her own purpose for her own gain?!" He asked, anger rising in his voice as he shouted at her.

The offer did not sit well with him. If Fate wanted old souls, then she'd have to wait till his vacated his body before she could toy with it...

He looked to Grace with an apologetic eye. "...I'm sorry...you're only giving me options..." He lifted his hand and rubbed his eyes again. "...I, uh...I need to think..."

Tomorrow
He shook his head and sighed, running his hand down his face and over his mouth, scratching at his beard as he did, obviously irritated by the notion.

He looked to Grace with an apologetic eye. "...I'm sorry...you're only giving me options..." He lifted his hand and rubbed his eyes again. "...I, uh...I need to think..."

"If it helps any... she can not! Her power literally springs from her purpose, and as I understand it... she would cease to exist if she tried to break the chains of her own Fate. Think about it, she was born mortal... human even! Without the faith that people put into the standard idea of Fate she would crumble to dust and only her name would remain as with her sisters... I think the concept of fate would have to chose a new avatar at that point, someone who could do what those ancient seers could and with the will to flow with what must be done." She closed the folder nodding at him as she stood and headed for the door.

Hono slowly moved from the bathroom, big orange eyes solemn. She had been listening for a while now... right after Verandi left in fact. There was no force on Gaia that would make her willingly step into a room with the seeress. "So... how shall we make lemonade out of this big fat lemon?"
PostPosted: Fri Jul 15, 2011 5:32 pm

He did not listen to her explanation on Fate's purpose. He did not even look up as she left the room.

He was lost in those five little words.

Months, a year at best.

At first he was angry. Angry at the fates for doing something like this to him. He'd been through so much hardship, and had finally started to enjoy his life, and then he is told he'll be a vegetable within a year...most likely suffer quite a lot in the time leading up to it. Lose his sanity. Lose his intelligence. Won't be able to love, or fight, or go to the bathroom by himself...

Another part of him said 'this is what you deserve. You were a monster, and now you're getting your just desserts....' And something agreed with that part. But he would not accept that. He'd finally put it behind him, and it was not the fates that should punish him, but the families of the people he...

"So... how shall we make lemonade out of this big fat lemon?"

He looked up suddenly to see Hono'o standing there at the doorway to the bathroom wrapped in nothing but a towel and her long, luscious red and black hair...

She knew. It was obvious in her eyes. He hadn't wanted her to know. He couldn't bear to see the knowledge in her eyes....but there it was.

His jaw tight, he raised his arm and held his hand out for her. "...C'mere..." He whispered, his voicebox seeming unable to punch out his regular booming voice. Right now...he needed her more then ever.

Slowly she crossed the room and crawled up onto the bed with him, uncertain as to what he wanted besides to just hold her.

Her world was threatening to crumble in on her... she wanted to be with him always and yet here was another bump that was going to try and destroy that simple wish.

Slowly she crossed the room and crawled up onto the bed with him, uncertain as to what he wanted besides to just hold her.
Her world was threatening to crumble in on her... she wanted to be with him always and yet here was another bump that was going to try and destroy that simple wish.

As soon as she was within grabbing distance his hand curled around her upper arm and pulled her into his lap, sitting her down so she could look right in his eyes. Now they were full of fire, full of determination, as he looked down to her, boring into her smouldering ember gaze with intense permafrost-colored blue.

"I promised you, Hono'o." He said firmly. "I made the blood oath for you. I'll never leave your side, ever...even if Hela drags me to Hel, i'll claw my way out to be with you again...I will not leave you alone. I will figure something out....and in a few years time, we'll look back and laugh at it all..."

His hand had left her arm as soon as she'd gotten comfortable, and he'd stroked her cheek and the nape of her neck with his rough fingers as gently as he could. He looked desperate - he needed her to understand. He loved her too much to just give up now.

She rested her hands on his chest looking into his eyes as he reminded her of his vow. Raven nodded her head slowly... he had vowed, and she had taken his vow in return, that put her in an obligation to help him as much as she could.

"So what is the plan? Besides me kicking Hela's a** if she gets anywhere near you..." She put her hands on his cheeks in return, stroking the stubble with a wan smile.
