Tails underestimated how far Tristen had come with his electricity, for his trouble the flash of searing pain knocked the breath out of him. He lay on his back, fingers and toes still tingling and Tristen was back to his feet.

It was almost too fast.

This was almost too easy, Tristen thought. That said, he knew about how foxes, or at least he thought, worked in their train of thought. This could be Tails playing possum. But the opportunity was there...

Tristen took the chance and jumped right at him, and held him tight. He was going to try to make Tails submit with a bit of a headlock.

It was a gamble, but a gamble Tails based on watching Tristen closely. Instead of rolling out of the way, he kicked his legs into the air when Tristen lunged, grabbed his arms and tried to throw the boy over him.

If Tristen was wearing his training clothes, this would not be pretty for Tails.

It would be to Tails's misfortune, he still was. He was keeping true to teacher's words about keeping it on at all times unless told otherwise. That said, with as much of a grip that he had in the lock, it was troublesome to keep Tails in it with the way Tails was kicking around. He wasn't going to hold for long.

This was how Tails found himself in the awkward position of having his legs spread around Tristen, and a little too close. Too privately close. As tenuous a grasp Tristen had on him, however, Tails grabbed one of Tristen's hands and thrust his otherhand into Tristen's armpit to knock him off balance.

"ACK!" Tristen yelped out, falling over and losing his grip on Tails. So much for trying to get him to submit there. He then managed to scoot himself back as fast as he could, before Tails gets any retaliatory ideas of his own.

That scuffle left Tails a little dazed and a little sore, and he rubbed one of his knees as he rose to his feet. When Tristen landed on him, that knee took the brunt of his weight.

But that weight was proof that Tails didn't need to hold everything back. That material would protect him. As Tristen scooted back, Tails spat small fireballs at his chest. His aim, to which countless dead rats could not attest, was ruthless.

Tristen tried to scoot as fast as possible. But that didn't matter too well with his aim. Tristen ended up flat on his back, the blow knocking the wind out of him, propting a hard cough. This was bad, Tristen thought. Tristen fought back up and winced hard, but not just from the pain. "HAAA!" His crest lit up like the fourth of July. Hard, blinding Flash.

The flash burned Tails' eyes, and he pressed his arm against them. He couldn't see, but he could smell. For now, he backed away, tails spread in all directions as feelers. When he felt himself back against a wall, he caught himself, pressed against it. If Tristen came at him, he would know.

Tristen held completely still for the moment. He didn't want to move, he didn't want to even breathe hard knowing that Tails could hear him more than likely. He was scared of any retaliation. "........" And worse, pressing against a wall. He couldn't get around to get him from behind, let alone any angle unless it was straightforward. He couldn't keep contemplating this forever though. He would get his sight back any time now. Tristen got up then started to creep towards Tails.

Tails rubbed his eyes, but not vigorously. He still couldn't see. He could swear he felt the faintest of drafts against his nose, but it could have been the open door.

"Just wait til I can see again," he said. "I'm gonna getcha good."

Tristen sweatdropped at the thought of that. He was going to try to get him good, and fast. He continued to creep, towards Tails's left, then made a go for it. Rushing for Tails, going to tackle him off that wall.

Unlike Tristen, Tails was not wearing heavy clothes and when he heard the first of Tristen's heavy footfalls from his side, he ran forward and didn't stop until he hit the other wall with tails as a cushion. After the sprint, his knee felt no better, but he could make out shapes and colors when he opened his eyes. He could stall.

Tristen figured at this point he was found out. He didn't really know how to go from there, apart from his Thunder Wave attack. And he really didn't know how to fight like his teacher, let alone Tails, and what little did he learn from the tribe, most he remembers from it was getting beaten instead of him giving the beatings. He was already out of his league. He blew his chance back when he had the headlock. But he couldn't really quit here. Tristen hung back and waited on Tails. Tails had been playing defense mostly this whole time. Maybe if he could get Tails on the offensive? Things were working in Tristen's performance anxiety induced mind...

Tails did not move from his position on the wall until his vision cleared. Tristen's passiveness was quite alright, he thought. But he knew what the boy was hoping for. He approached, but slowly. Arms away from him, fingers spread as if he'd dive into a tackle at any moment.
