I have heard of the movie but not seen it. I definitely didn't know it had such a good song attached to it. Thanks for sharing. In return, one that I've always loved: Pure Imagination

I only enjoy Depp 50% of the time. I like to pretend that Burton's version of Wonka doesn't exist. Plus, Gene Wilder is simply fantastic.

I find Depp to be an overrated character actor, and Gene Wilder had a vastly superior performance. It isn't like I am a massive Willy Wonka fan, but I can appreciate talent far more than 'oooh ahhh' sensationalism.

Yeah, I generally enjoy Depp more in his roles that aren't the hugely popular ones. I'm not a huge Roald Dahl fan, either. I really only like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory & James and the Giant Peach. I am, however, a fan of Gene Wilder; he does a great Dr. Frakenstein.

Sometimes, I think I am a bit of a snob. I don't really care for poor animation quality in my shows, don't watch a whole lot of movies, and barely watch any TV. I didn't care for Daredevil on Netflix because I want my superheroes to be . . . well . . . super.

Ah, I just found out Roald Dahl did Matilda as well
I can understand where you're coming from, b/c I am practically exclusively otaku. Few cartoons, movies, or tv shows have interested me in a very long time.
With regard to super heroes, I'll just say that I prefer Reeve as Superman and Keaton as Batman (I also the Animated Series each hero got in the 90s). The modern super hero stuff doesn't interest me at all, since I very much prefer my super heroes be bright and not gritty (unless that's their thing, of course; i just don't like it being shoehorned into super heroes that aren't that way, which is why I'm okay w/ the recent Batman trilogy). Of course, saying I dislike Whedon (Avengers, etc...) is likely to get me executed given the internet's rabid fandom.

For me, I really enjoyed Chrisitan Bale's Batman in all ways but the forced "hero" voice. It was trying too hard. The rest was great. I agree with the grit and grim of virtually all of DC. The joke exists of "We have to be gritty and real and don't you ever dare make a joke" for DC. Meanwhile Marvel is like "Here's a talking tree and a raccoon with big guns."
Oh, and Animated Batman is the definitive version for me . . . particularly the voices. Mark Hamill is Joker for me. Period. Though Heath Ledger gave a brilliant performance.

I agree that TAS are fantastic and have some of the best representations of the Batman/Superman characters. I do find it funny that Luke Skywalker has done so many villains in his voice-acting career.
