My guy's been alive for thousands of years, and he's not too strong. Strong enough to nearly kill Snow though...

That's because your guy has almost no limits. I force my character into limitations -- body stress, human endurance, that the sort -- because he is, however, part human. There is a limit to his ability, unlike others who can merely surpass the limit with years of training, special powers, or unnatural composition of the body....

So far, most of the people that I've met here use age as a means to derive a higher limit for the characters. Maybe it's just me. Maybe not, but I just find it a bit disappointing that there aren't many people who put a limit on themselves....
Wanna fight him as a human? o:

No thanks. Hell-- I'm still in a coma from our last fight. How the heck do I fight someone if I'm barely conscious and heavily wounded, as a starter?

You've confused me.

That's because I've confused you.
I know....
That's what I just said.

I know that you know that I confused you. That's what I told you. You should listen more carefully. -shakes finger at-
But I didn't need to listen because I already knew that I was confused.

But did you know that you were really confused?
Yep.

I meant after you'd recovered.

I always put preset limits on my characters, but the fact is, other people don't. Thus, I stretch the limits for what the opponent's limits are. And, I'd also like to state that just because my character has experience doesn't make him more or less powerful than any other'.

What good would that do to you? It'll just feel like you're pitying me from my protest....
....Tsk. I'll have my revenge one day, so no need to drop down to a human level, Mael. I'll ask for a rematch once my character recovers from his injuries.

Detail's great. I love detail.

Ertai Vexic
His Psionic links of influence and manipulation were that of an ever changing sequence, shifting and never the same twice, each one branching off into their own form of manipulation and mindset to grasp the most control that they could grasp. With this form of shifting manipulation and control, it would make it impossible to influence from the outside because not one link is ever the same and if any outside influence would dare try to effect it, it would break even more and splice into the form of manipulation of the outside source and thus leading to the outside influences ending.

Experience is a good thing -- at least it makes someone wary without rushing too fast into situations. That doesn't mean it can't be arrogant and ignorant....to some extent.

There are other ways to gain powers besides training. Some characters can be built or created with powers, others can be imbued with them by factors entirely beyond their control. In any case, the reason for the acquisition of their powers is in the past and is part of history; there's no need to train seperately.

It's not about training to have the powers that I'm differing in opinion --
It's training to keep and utilize the power as much as possible. Some practices like warm ups, to hone the skills....
That's only if there's skills to keep. If the abilities are simple, there's no practice necessary; if you fight once every few years, that's enough to remember the basics. And some things are like riding a bike, they can't be easily forgotten. My characters often have just a few basic and broad base abilities, and they improvise with them as the situation requires. There are times when practice and training can actually be DETRIMENTAL to your abilities.

Nightsnow, you're confused. Age and power don't have any DIRECT relationship. However, if someone's playing an immortal demigod which is eight thousand years old, odds are they're probably not going to be pulling any punches. Normalistic characters tend to have shorter lifespans, while godlike beings are usually ancient by the time they've developed their egos enough to meet the ego quota for showing up on Gaia and playing with the other godlike beings. Likewise, everyone puts limits on their character. It's just that everyone puts the limits in a different place. For me, it's boring RPing a human. It's difficult to set traps when all you've got is your fists and whatever weapons you can carry, there isn't much strategy to it and hand-to-hand isn't my style anyway.

Translation of the Ertai words you quoted: "I'm doing stuff and you can't do a thing about it, nyah nyah!" He didn't need a paragraph for that. Actually, the translation isn't ENTIRELY accurate, because his mechanics are flawed. As usual.
