"He really likes things to die," Toby said with a sigh, "He's a lot better than most kelpies I've met, though. Probably all of them. He's young so he's still malleable. Plus he has clothes now so he won't stink."
Cody? Dari took the envelope and wandered away a bit to open it, brows furrowed. If this was an archaic break-up message...

"Yes, I noticed that. He kept telling me about this game on his phone..." Maia shook her head. He'd also asked her for her phone number in the same conversation. "Really?" She asked. "He does seem a bit... I don't know if "nicer" is the right word, than I'd expected. Are you going to keep working with him?"
Inside the envelope was a drawing of Cody and Dari; they were facing the viewer--the Dari in the drawing had an arm around Cody. No break up letter here!

"Thank to you he's our case, so yup," Toby teased. "He's less Unseelie, which is probably sort of racist. He's Seamus Unseelie, not Nuckelavee Unseelie, and a lot of kelpies are just human-destroying death machines."
Dari smiled warmly. It was cute! Very basic, but cute. He looked over it a long time: long enough that Toby noticed.
"What is it?" Toby asked.
Dari folded the drawing up quickly and tucked it back into the envelope instinctively. Of course that only egged Toby on, and he snatched the envelope away. When he saw the drawing he smiled at Dari who smiled back. Alright, so this Cody guy was a big sap. It could be worse.
"I'm sad I missed him," Dari said.

"I was trying to distract you from me," She said, grinning at him. But it was a good thing they'd found him. He'd been starving. "I think the virtual world needs to fear him more," she said.
She looked to Dari. "Did he write you a love letter?" She asked. "I invited him for a double date next weekend--not this weekend, he says you guys are busy? Anyway, I think I'll invite Lori and Luca too... Do you guys want cake?"

"No, he drew me a picture." Dari took the drawing back to show Maia. it was his, after all. Then he nodded. "Certainly. I will ask Cody. This weekend we're watching movies and eating food and sharing art. We might collaborate." He looked to the drawing again himself, and Toby gave him an affectionate noogie. Dari laughed.
"You're cute," Toby said. His little guy was smitten. It seemed just yesterday he was a pool of fluid eating through a metal exam table!
"Cake? For a date?" Dari asked. "Oh! Oh. I need help making something for this weekend. I want to surprise him."

Maia studied the drawing, then looked back to Dari and smiled. "He seems to really like you," she observed. They'd gone on three dates and already the guy was dropping by to deliver pictures. Cute.
"I meant now--oooh, I can teach you to make cake," Maia said, happily.

"Oh, now! Yes. Please," Dari responded, and then shook his head. "No, I want to make him muffins."
"Easy enough," Toby said, appearing with a knife, and a stack of plates and forks.

"Muffins? What kind?" Maia looked to Toby as he emerged from the kitchen and smiled at him. She took the knife and began to cut the cake. "So tell me about your day."

"Chocolate chip," Dari said and then watched Maia begin to slice the cake.

The weekend had come, and still nothing had exploded. Lori would never admit it, but after Luca moved in he had worried that it'd be like honeymooning for a while and then they'd just get on eachother's nerves. It hadn't happened. He was still gloriously happy, and he walked hand-in-hand with Luca through the park with Rosei happily trotting at his side and people-watching.

Living with Lori had been the best decision he'd ever made, Luca reflected. He was infinitely grateful to whatever powers had brought those books to him, so he'd meet Lori. He swayed their hands, and looked to Lori. Was this the right time? The right place? He'd had to look up information about human engagement traditions. He'd purchased Lori a ring--and this place was just as beautiful as any fancy restaurant, wasn't it?
"It's a perfect day," he said, and looked to his boyfriend. He smiled. Lori was perfect.

Lori smiled over at Luca and nodded. "It is. It's like spring's already here." he leaned over and kissed Luca's head without breaking stride.

After a while, when Luca was sure they were alone apart from Rosie and a few birds welcoming spring, he stepped in front of Lori and took both of his hands. "Lori, I love you."

Lori almost stepped on Luca's toes but steadied himself before he actually did. Rosie stopped obediently and decided to survey the area from her vantage point. Lori let Luca take his hands and smiled.
"I love you too."

Luca leaned up to kiss Lori, smiling softly at him. "I want to be with you forever," he said, and released Lori's left hand in order to pull a small box from his pocket. "These past months have been the happiest I've ever known." How wad he supposed to do this? Drop down on one knee? Sing? Loudly declare undying love? He wasn't sure. Instead, he just opened the box.
It was a men's engagement ring. "Marry me?"

He wanted to be with him forever. Sure. They had shared that sentiment plenty of times. The little box threw him off, though. It ripped any response he might have had straight from his lungs and his eyes widened. When the box opened so did his lips part, and then his gaze flickered to Luca.
"What?" and then, "Yes! I mean, yes!" He more or less lunged forward and kissed Luca passionately, wrapping his arms around him.
