DarkElf27 -xAngel of Redemptionx- Okay so i have a 1500 point army list built, and its formed around a highly mobile task force, so i have about 170 points left to allocate, i'm thinking of deploying land speeders, but how effective are they? (i'm also considering a whirlwind) Well, what do you have so far? I like landspeeders (I have 3), but in 50th edition rules they're a bit delicate for their price in points. Yeah, unless they are being used to transport scouts, they really dont help that much. and even then they have to be doing flat out like all the time for that cover save. deffinatly go with whirlwinds and for the love of god make sure you tack a storm bolter on them. I've had them end up defensless and unable to do anything but run cause of lack of storm bolters

No mobile vehicle is ever worthless. I've had several instances where a weaponless tank is used for ramming missions, mobile cover, tank shocking, etcc.

in a battle lately a shaken, weaponless rhino drove away to the board edge wolf lord and his attendant grey hunters squad worth over 400 points...

My best tactic ever. mrgreen
That and stealing an objective with a lone terminator and parking a land raider in front of him. :3

I'd tack a Storm Bolter on a Whirlwind anyways. Rhinos and Razorbacks are transports, the Whirlwind is an artillery tank. Swift deployment of troops and Mobile Cover are what the former pair are meant for, the latter to provide heavy fire support. I'm not ramming with a Whirlwind if I can help it. Heck, if I can help it, it's not gonna be anywhere near the main battle lines.
What you can do with one mobile vehicle isn't always the best idea to do with them all.

I was a owner of a whirlwind once. Sold it to a friend when it started killing my own men instead of missing completly. Not once have I managed to hit a enemy unit with the bloody thing, so I´ve used predators and/or dev squads for fire support.
WW is a pretty ok machine, aslong you don´t have a bad luck with it like I do.

Make them think twice about allying with you... I've got a very traitorous battle report to tell you all some other time, maybe over a keg of Fenris' finest beer.

Even the best pilots in the Imperium can foul up from time to time.
And tell it now Jason! Or we shall ensure that you can only enjoy fluids through a straw from now on. pirate

True, and even with dev squads I have a mixture of luck (except plasma cannons, FEAR ME!!!! >;3 ), My handy missile-launcher dev´s suffers a case of dud-ammo´s. <.<
And Brook, the worst thing we can do to him is to make him do a bet that when he fails he won´t be allowed to drink any alcohol for the rest of his life. :p That is fate worst then unhonorable death to a space wolf. xD

Now then my friends, are you all huddled around close and have a pint of ale? Aye, let us begin then. 1500 Pts each, Necron had 3000Pts The battle between the Space Marine chapter known as the Iron Knights (Controlled by me), using two Vanguard squads, my Chapter Master, two Tactical Squads, a terminator squad with a drop pod, a scout squad and Chaplain Dave.
I was allied with an Imperial Guard company with an Infantry Platoon, with another few Penal Legion squads, and the rest of the points spent on Basilisks and a Vanquisher with Pask commanding it.
Against us was the dreaded forces of the Necrons, compromising of a Lord, a squad of Pariahs, four Necron Warrior squads, a Monolith and 6 Heavy Destroyers, some Flayed ones and normal Destroyers, and something else I was too drunk to remember.
I was on the left, he was on the right, hogging the hills for cover. Necrons were all over.
Now, the battle commenced with the Imperial Guard Basilisks opening up along the hilly landscape, scoring only a small number of hits with their powerful cannons. No other shots could be fired, mainly due to the fact we were out of range, or the hills obstructed our view.
The Necrons advanced at their steady pace, sending the Heavy Destroyers around a large hill, out of the sight of the lasguns and the deadly Vanquisher, the Destroyers skirted around another hill, parallel to their heavier brethren on the right, but these were in sight of the Vanquisher and the Scout squads Missile Launcher.
My turn started with the faithful chaplain moving forward with the two Tactical squads either side of him. The scout squad opened fire with their Sniper rifles, managing to kill a destroyer with precise sniper fire, then another with a Krak missile. The Imperial Guardsmen followed my lead, putting all of the infantry squads to my diagonal right, just behind me. The Vanquisher opened up with its powerful cannon, and ended up with a kill tally of two Necrons, who would never be getting up again. The Basilisks opened up on the horde of approaching Necron Warriors, scoring a slight bit more hits than the first volley, but the majority of them stood back up to the Lords evil Orb.
The Necrons turn begun with the remaining two Destroyers opening up on my second tactical squad, causing one to fall to the deadly beams. The Heavy Destroyers moved around, two been in range to shoot at the Vanquisher, one penetrated and destroyed the Vanquisher cannon, and the second destroyed the lascannon. But suddenly, out of the green haze, something appeared. A Monolith, standing higher than anything else on the field. Its deadly guns spat at the Penal squads around it, causing a dozen casualties from the squads, causing one to fall back in horror. Out of its green portal came a squad of ten Flayed ones, each draped in the dead skins of their previous victims, Tau Kroot.
I had reserved my Chapter Master, terminator squad and a vanguard squad for reserve, but none could arrive this turn due to atmospheric interference. The Chaplain and two Tactical squads planted their feet down on a bushy hilltop, and rained a lethal hail of bolt shells onto a Necron squad which is drifting away from its friends, and decimated it to eleven members, the two Plasma guns claiming another pair. The scouts finished off the two final Destroyers with a fine bit of pinpoint accuracy as well.
Seeing no other option, Pask started to gather speed, reaching the threshold of its speed, it smashed into the Monolith, somehow destroying the blasted machine, but immobilising himself while doing so, leaving the venerable machine open beside a squad of dreaded Flayed ones and Heavy Destroyers. The Infantry Platoon that was moving behind the first Tactical squad opened up with its lasguns and grenade launchers, causing all of the Necron squad to fall. (I have no idea how it happened, Abbnet pattern lasguns any one?) The artillery fired into the Pariah squad, containing the Lord, he came out totally unharmed, but his Pariah squad was completely wiped out after thee blasts from the cannons.
75% of the Necrons stood back up, but the Pariahs stayed down. The Flayed ones charged into the Penal squad, easily ripping it apart and moving towards the second one, three Destroyers targeted the side armour of the Vanquisher, the last one finally destroying the proud machine, while the last three obliterated the vox-operator, grenade launcher and bodyguard of the command squad. The Necron squads opened up on my Tactical squad, taking their number down to five men including the Chaplain, the second one had a lucky bit of cover blocking the Necrons line of sight, so they escaped unharmed.
Finally, one of my Vanguard squads dropped from the sky, smashing straight into the side of the Necrons, all the while the Basilisks opened up again, but not on your expected target. All but two of the huge blasts landed on my Vanguard, and one of the other blasts struck my four man Tactical squad, wiping out the Vanguard completely, and finishing the Tactical squad off, leaving only the Chaplain and the first squad left to face down two near full Necron squads. I decided to charge the Necrons, Chaplain Dave smashed apart three of the metal monsters, and the sergeant killing another three, the rest of the squad finishing the bastards off. The traitor guardsmen opened up upon the Necron squad again, now only killing half the squad, the Penal legion fired upon the Flayed ones, forcing four of them down. The command squad, now only with a veteran and medic left, charged into the Heavy Destroyers, the company commander destroying all three of them with lucky blows from his duel Power fists.
The Flayed ones stood back up, all apart from two, and charged into a larger squad of Penal Legion, killing half the squad, and in turn, lost half their number from the mass of bodies. The other three Heavy Destroyers flew away from the Basilisk into cover, because it was obvious he was preparing to fire the Earthshakers at the skimmers. The Necron Lord moved towards the Chaplain and Tactical squad, bringing one squad member down with his powerful staff weapon. The two remaining Necron squads opened up on a Guard squad each, easily destroying both ten man squads.
Now I was quite annoyed, I had just lost several great models, to my allies traitorous firing, so I decided that our alliance was over. A drop pod smashed into the ground behind the Artillery battery, the Cyclone missile launcher let two Krak missiles soar from their pods, and smash into the back of a Basilisk, destroying it with ease. The Chapter Masters combi-plasma fired upon another, blowing that to small pieces, and the Drop pod's Deathwind also penetrated the back of the gun, and blew the main cannon to pieces. The second vanguard squad dropped down behind the command squad, charging into it and making mincemeat of the surprised commander. The Chaplain and his squad charged the Necron lord, causing the lord to go down to a wound, while he killed two members of the squad, and wounded the Chaplain.
The Guard Platoon fired again upon the Necron squads, causing a half dozen casualties from the thirty Necrons. The Penal Legion charged the Flayed ones, after loosing a dozen of them, they finally finished the Necrons off, but obviously, some would get back up. The remaining two Basilisks turned to fire upon my terminator and chapter master, one scattering back towards the gun-less basilisk and ruining its track drive. The last shot struck the terminator squad, dead on, killing all but two of the Space Marines, whose powerful invulnerable saved them. The Chapter Master was also unharmed.
The Chaplain ended up dying against the Necron Lord, causing no wounds on it, while the valiant sergeant smashed his power axe into the creatures head, and destroyed it forever. The squad moved on, to the rear of a Necron squad, while the Necron squads whittled the Imperial Guard platoon down to its command squad and a squad consisting of five men, which 'retreated' in an orderly fashion, leaving the platoon command by themselves.
I then decided I couldn't be bothered shooting the Basilisks, so I charged one of them with my two remaining terminators, and the last with my melta-bomb Chapter Master, they both destroyed their targets, and consolidated towards the Penal Legion.
And I really cant go on for much longer. I won the match, I made the Necrons phase out and my last Vanguard squad owned the Penal's.
Sorry its really bad and will have bits missing, I needed to get it finished.

Oh no, he aimed intentionally at me, as in putting the template over my men to begin with. He also told me our partnership in the campaign was over when he bombed me, so yeah...
