Kevin's eyes went wide as he saw just how many flavors there were. He'd never had ice cream Before, how did he know which flavor to pick? Which one was the best. "Which one do you think I should try?" he asked, looking at Dari.

Dari looked to Kevin.
"Well, do you know what chocolate tastes like? Or have you eaten any fruit?" it seemed like silly questions, but he'd been a new face to tasting rather recently.

"Chocolate's good. And cake! Cake is good. Toby brought me cake." And in doing so, had introduced the Kelpie to sugar. Sugar was glorious. Better than meat by far. "Maybe I'll try chocolate ice cream? I don't really like fruit."

Dari got cherry vanilla, and ordered for Kevin as well. A scoop of chocolate and a scoop of cookie dough. He could have pastry-taste and chocolate! He turned to Kevin then and smiled, pointing to the display of toppings.
"Do you want anything on top?"
The girl behind the ice cream counter must think they were all very strange.

Kevin was beaming as Dari ordered--cookie dough ice cream? He hasn't known there was such a thing! He looked up at the list, struggling to piece together words. "Sauce?" he sounded out. "Maybe chocolate sauce? Toby! You've got to come pick your ice cream!"

"With chocolate sauce, please," Dari said with a nod, and then Toby stepped in.
"Plus one small swirl cone, please."
"Sure," the polite young woman said behind a wall of too-white teeth. She couldn't be older than 19. She went about making their orders and Dari watched closely. Food was fun! He loved playing with his human form.

Kevin looked at Toby in disbelief. After seeing how much the werewolf could eat, he was surprised by his choice. He happily took his ice cream when the woman behind the counter put them out. He licked it experimentally, made a bit of a face--it was colder than he'd expected--and smiled. "This is awesome!"

Toby laughed. Kevin and Dari made the same face with new food! He nodded and took his ice cream and then gave Kevin a thumbs-up.
"I'm glad!"
When it came time to go home, the partners dropped Kevin off back at HQ and headed home in the dark of night. It had been a long day, but a productive one. They chatted about it while they drove. Toby came home with a bit of a tired slump and held the door open for Dari.

Maia waited for Toby to come in before leaving the kitchen. She was carrying a round cake with buttercream piping around It. "Surprise!" she said, happily, popping into the dining room to set the cake on the table.
She kissed each of the the guys on the cheek. "I missed you guys."

"Aww, love..." Toby said. He smiled and eyed the cake as he pulled off his jacket and loosened his tie. "Look at you!"
Dari leaned in close and inhaled. Ahh, it smelled wonderful.
"What is it?"

"Chocolate with buttercream frosting," Maia said, and smiled at Dari's reaction. She leaned up to capture Toby's lips. "Its been a year since I met the two of you, so I thought I'd make you a cake."

Toby didn't keep track of such things. He could tell you the day Maia had come back and they had become official, but not their first meeting. Thus he was surprised to hear Maia's reason and captured her lips before verbally melting. "Awww, love..."
Dari straightened quickly. "You're so sweet!" He remembered, of curse, but hadn't realized!

Maia smiled at Toby. "My phone has a better memory than I do," she admitted. It'd alerted her to the significance of the day. "Are you guys hungry? Did you have fun with Kevin?"

"We ate. What about you? Do you want me to make you something?" Toby asked, wrapping his arms around Maia and kissing her ear. It didn't matter to him that her phone had reminded her. She'd set it to remind her after all!
"Kevin had fun, that's what matters," Dari said.

"I ate. Cody came by and told me to give Dari this," Maia pushed an envelope that'd been sitting on the tablw towards Dari. She looked between Dari and her boyfriend, and grinned.
"A teenager wore you out? When we did my first trip to the mall, you came back and cleaned!"
