Vartox is monitoring the box. Vartox would have taken the small animal out of the box if Kara hadn't shown in due time. Vartox has thought greatly about his next step in Vartox's and Kara's courtship!

See, Vartox doesn't even know her well enough to know her secret identity. Why doesn't Vartox leave the kitten, and Brainiac 5 will ensure that it is properly cared for until she arrives.
