There is a custom in Japan that when someone dies to cover up all of the mirrors in the house. If at any time during the next 9 months after the persons death a mirror or any reflective object is uncovered or used in that house. The person who died will come back to haunt the person who saw their reflection.

@Chelitagirl - interesting that your town has it's own urban legend like that. I wonder how it got started - if it was entirely fabricated or there was actually a car accident who's story got more and more crazy as time went by.
@FLE - Chinese is such a tricky language. I spent 6 months there and was still struggling for any kind of fluency. It's all the different tones! It seems like there are unlucky (and lucky) numbers in all cultures but hardly any agree on which ones are the unlucky ones! blaugh

Oh, good. A party with guns! XD This will be fun. lol
*Blows on dice before rolling* So, they say that the superstition of blowing on dice came from several things (most do). Anything from blowing the road dirt off, to activating whatever gunk they put on the dice to fix the roll. Another explanation was that it related to an old ritual of blowing on tool and weapon handles to appeal to whatever deity for a better grip or luck.

I have another one that really has not much to do with the 13th. But it is an old Irish/American superstition that if you do laundry on New Years day, That you will wash someone that you love out of your life forever. (as in dead.) Lyn smile

BTW - It's not just the number 13 that gets a bad rap. Here are some specifically about Friday: Never change your bed on Friday; it will bring bad dreams. Don't start a trip on Friday or you will have misfortune. If you cut your nails on Friday, you cut them for sorrow. Ships that set sail on a Friday will have bad luck (found at About.com)
