A truly great game would be one in a Cities of Death scenario with just infantry and walkers, no other vehicles of any kind. Throw these into rubble and ruin choked streets and let them fight in brutal battles as described in the old City Fight book.

This of course means that I'll lose my prime position as Imperial air support provider for those large games. crying
Unless.. Unless I buy more 'Bolts and create a whole squadron of them! whee
How big are Navy squadrons in 40k these days?

Abnett says five or so in his book, FW says a lot of things, I'd say do what you like best. Personally I'd go for the Luftwaffe approach where a swarm is made up of eight craft whom are subdivided into two flights of four, of which each flight has a leader and a wingman. You know, Battle of Britain! Michael Caine!

Here's my 2.000 points list that I used to decimate a Green Tide list (Large mobs of skins supported by a mob of bikes and some Trukk loaded elites) not long ago. All in all I am very pleased with how all units performed, especially the Penal squads and the Punisher. I might drop the second platoon, throw most support and infantry squads from it into the first platoon and use the saved up points to throw in either another Penal squad and a Chimera or squeeze in an Exterminator by dropping the command squad medic, which is rather overpriced and hasn't really done a whole lot of usefulness yet.
Anyway, the winning list:
Company Command Squad: power weapon, medic, regimental standard, vox caster, flamer, master of ordnance - 145
Infantry platoon: power weapon, platoon standard, vox, flamer - 65 Infantry squad: grenade launcher, vox - 60 Infantry squad: grenade launcher, vox - 60 Infantry squad: flamer, vox - 60 Heavy weapons squad: mortars - 60 Heavy weapons squad: missile launchers - 90
Infantry platoon: power weapon, platoon standard, vox, flamer - 65 Infantry squad: grenade launcher, vox - 60 Infantry squad: grenade launcher, vox - 60 Infantry squad: flamer, vox - 60 Heavy weapons squad: heavy bolters - 75 Heavy weapons squad: autocannons - 75
Penal Legion Squad - 80
Penal Legion Squad - 80
Hellhound - 130
Tank squadron (3): Leman Russ with heavy bolter sponsons - 510
Leman Russ Punisher with heavy bolter sponsons - 200
Griffon - 75
Grand total - 2010

So fielding a squadron really worked out for you? Seems there's hope for you yet if you won this battle with so few troops. blaugh

How'd the Punisher work for you, people have been naysaying it a lot, but I haven't seen anyone actually playtest it to prove their theories.
On a different note- Getting a Bombard and a Manticore for Christmas. Yay for heavy artillery.

The Punisher worked two ways for me, much like the Helblaster volleygun in fantasy: It's part dice chucking and part implied fear of the thing. 29 dice per shooting phase was not something to baulk at. Sure, at first I opened up with just three heavy bolters, but once those hordes got into range of the main gun the party really started. It did almost earn back its points, which is more than I could ever ask for, scything through about thirty orks with ease.
But then again, I played my army as a gun-line, keeping one flank tight with that trio of Russ tanks and an infantry platoon, the other with my Punisher, Hellhound and Griffon and the rest of my meagre forces. I forced the enemy to come to me. mrgreen

Guard is probably only army capable of scything down green tide with firepower alone... for evul results put Pask on the Punisher for BS4 lawnmower

I was actually thinking about putting Pask in the Punisher but decided against it. I might give it a shot in a later game, as I'm inclined to jumble things about a bit, maybe try and fit in some Sentinels with autocannons or an Eradicator.
