Toby shrugged and smirked. "Maybe--OPP. I died." The game was instructing him to insert more coins, but that sort of thing happened when giant zombies threw cars and you didn't duck. Ducking was supposed to be a physical reaction, not pressing a button!
"It's a game. Logic doesn't apply," Dari said, grinning as he watched Kevin fight the boss solo.

Fighting solo was practically impossible, Kevin decided. He died shortly after, and scowled. "Lets play a different game," he decided, looking around for another game. He spotted pacman. "C'mon, Dari!" He beckoned the alien over. "You can play the girl pac man. I think we have to kill the ghosts."

"Oh, it's two-player?" Dari asked. He had never seen two-player Pacman before. Or were they just going to play beside each other? This was one of those occasions where the fourth dimension might have helped. "You have to get the bigger dots, then they turn all blue and then you can eat them. But they come right back. If you touch them before then you die."
It was Toby's turn to watch.

"Yeah, see? You have to be the girl one," he pointed to the game next to his. Bigger dots and then he could kill the ghosts? They came back?! "That's cheating," He complained. "Why don't they stay dead after I eat them?" he put quarters in, and offered two to Dari.

Dari waved a hand to refuse the coins and popped in his own.
"Well, it's a game. Without challenge it's just...a story. It's not cheating Things fighting back isn't cheating," he said with a laugh, popped in his own coins and began to play. He felt very male, but it would be hard to insult his masculinity considering he had been genderless for so long.

"I think it is," Kevin said, and started to play. He had some difficulty trying to get all the dots before the ghosts got too close. Then he hit a big one, quite by accident, in his rush to get away. The ghosts running away seemed to please him. He smirked.

Toby noticed Kevin's joy, but Dari was busy playing his own game. He really enjoyed his increased reaction time with human hands. It was amazing how deeply this illusion worked, and the fae themselves had called it an 'illusion.' It just seemed like a whole new from to him! Except for the whole waste management thing, that was distinctly inhuman. He bled, though. He sweat. He produced saliva. Lori had been working with him on it for a while.

The ghosts turned back from blue after about ten seconds, and Kevin had to rush to get away. Stupid ghosts! The red one caught up to him, causing the Pacman to disappear. It reappeared at the starting point.
"Stupid ghost," the Kelpie grumbled, and went to find another big dot.

Dari was having fun, and surviving fairly well. He'd played this game quite a few times when he was first being introduced to gaming as a whole. The ghosts did move in slightly random patterns, but he had the maps memorized. He heard Kevin die and smiled. Hah!

Dari definitely seemed rob a good at this, he'd have to remember that later. Maybe he had some expert way of avoiding the ghosts? The ghosts seemed to be moving in a random but somehow planned formation. The red one would go after him one way and the others another. He ran into the big dot just in time, and went after them.
"Ha, they turn into eyes when you eat them!"

"Well of course. You did eat them," Dari reasoned ridiculously. Hey, he was a kid.
"I'm... forty years older than this game, and that makes me sad," Toby remarked.

"I want them to do that again," Kevin decided, and went after the next large dot. He was grinning, but Toby's words distracted him for a moment. "That's because you're forty times cooler than the game," he said. "Hey, you made me die!" But he didn't seem particularly angry. He went back to the game and started after that dot.
"I'm going to make them turn into eyes again."

"Why, thank you," he said, pretending to boast, and then laughed, "Sorry."
Dari died for his first time just then. He'd been cornered. It was his own fault!

"You are," Kevin said. "I like you forty times better than this." He died again, after a while, and the screen popped up with a game over. "Come on, I saw this cool game that things explode in." It was a retro spaceship shooter game. He took Toby's hand and led him over to it.

"What, like Space Invaders?" Toby asked. Dari seemed pretty happy with Ms Pacman for now. "I'm not very good at arcade games." Only thanks to Dari was he good at any kind of game.
"Tsk. You didn't even ask first, you just started shooting," Dari teased.
"Well that certainly sounds like us!"
