Who says Friday the 13th has to be unlucky?
WELCOME TO LUCKY FRIDAY!!Share a superstition you've heard of to get a prize. (What superstition do you find the scariest or most stupid? Do you have any superstitions you can't help even though you know they might be silly - i.e. a lucky pair of socks?)
a random poster from each page will get a prize~also you can roll a lucky 13 to be a winnerRULES FOR THE LUCKY 13 RANDOM NUMBER ROLL:-roll a random number between 1 and 20 -you can roll as many times as you want but, THIS IS IMPORTANT: you must let someone else roll between your rolls. If they post but do not roll that doesn't count! You must wait for someone to roll before you can roll again. -all lucky 13s are winners, so even if someone else has rolled a 13 you still can try for another as long as the game is going. I will announce the end of the game. now get rolling! xd

Well, being involved in roleplaying games for so long has given me a wealth of superstitions from lucky/cursed dice to never drinking the last mountain dew.
Did you know that the idea of walking under a ladder came from the use of scaffolding and sweep's ladders? This was because these ladders often went from the roadside to the building and it was common to walk under them. They also were festooned with hooks for buckets and would be quite drippy with paint or grime, so walking under one, you had a high chance of getting something staining upon your clothing.

ooh! 14 was so close!
So here's a silly superstition that bugs me. I completely know that it's silly and doesn't really mean anything but I always twinge a little when I spill the salt.
According to one source on google (so take with a grain of salt rofl ) Here is one explanation of the salt superstition:
Salt was a very precious expensive commodity in the middle ages. It was also used for medicinal purposes. If you spilled any, you must immediately throw it over your left shoulder to strike the nasty spirits in the eye, thus preventing sickness.

shadow_soul121 hm.... step on a crack and you'll break your mother's back that is rather silly it's neigh impossible to miss every single one! hello! hehe yeah that's a popular one for the kids. Probably because it's so fun to jump over all those cracks! My kids used to do that one and then I'd join them and jump ON the cracks and they'd yell MOMMMMM! And of course break into the crazy giggling. rofl

That's the whole point of Lucky Friday - to point out how silly they are wink You can still share one you've heard of to get in on the prize thing!

There's this story. In my town, there is a bridge. This bridge, it has 13 stones. The story tells that a young bride was late for her wedding on a Friday the 13th. When she was passing through the bridge, she lost control of her car and fell off. She died. Some folks say that if you pass through the bridge on Friday the 13th and count all the stones, the bride appears and asks you to marry her (men, of course). I still haven't heard what she does to the ladies. So yeah, that's a lil urban legend going around my town for many years now.

You think number 13 is an unlucky number? The Chinese say number 4 is unlucky because it's associated with death. If you phonetically say number 4 wrong (in a wrong tone), you literally tell the person to die. Anyway, this is probably the reason why the Chinese stay (well) away from houses which contain number 4 in it.

Tee-hee... I rolled an 18. If I say it in Cantonese, it would mean 100. wink
Edit: Let me clarify... I mean if I say 1 and 8 in Cantonese, it would mean 100. If I say 18 in Cantonese incorrectly, it would mean kill prosperity. confused Whoever invented these dialects and translating them all wrong ought to be shot...
