I come from an ethnic minority background from china, being of mongolian descent. My father used to work for the communist party before coming to the UK, since then he has been a journalist for the BBC and has visited the dalai Lama. He is now banned from returning to the China.
I myself admire the ideals of Mao, but even more so the adaptation to the free market that we can see is so effective today. However on annual returns to China, i have seen the corruption that this influx of capitalist consumerism has caused.
I myself am a 17 year old student, preparing to do economics at Oxford university.

People lumping the two together because the flags are both red and it ends in 'ism' gets tiresome. Welcome to the guild. Yes, we do know the difference between socialism and communism, but some of us, most prominently me would say that the only real socialists are revolutionary Marxists.

Type of Marxist: Libertarian Socialist
My principles are as followed. I believe strongly in personal freedoms. Do drugs, carry a gun, get an abortion, be gay, and be merry.
However, I also believe that the bottom and the top of society must be kept in check. Someone needs to be there to make sure that the backbone of our society; the working poor, are able to make their keep. Someone also must be there to stop those with money, to limit their money and disable any political and social power they desire to have.
Anyway, I look forward to talking to other Marxists. I had no idea there were so many on Gaia biggrin
