Living in Vegas I've grown acclimatized to summer weather. 110 - 120 degrees hardly bothers me any more. In fact, I like it. There's only one problem, whenever the temperature dips below 65, I'm hurting... bad. The wind chills me to my bones and makes me feel like such a wimp! gonk

SCREW YOU, IRON MAN!!!!!

They were doing a radio game, "Mystery Dudes." Guy was thinking of a mystery dude and people were to call in with a question about the mystery dude and a guess. Winner gets concert tickets to a sold out show this weekend. I was kinda wanting to go to the show. The first question was "Does this dude have super powers?" The answer was yes. I immediately called and actually got through.

Being a regular listener I knew that the guy thinking of the mystery dude was a big fan of Wonder Man back in the day. I knew from other listeners questions that the mystery dude, had powers, did not wear a mask, had not had a movie about him, the last part of his name was 'man', and he was a Marvel character.

I was so damned sure. I asked 'Did the mystery dude, back in the day, wear a set of sweet, sweet sunglasses?' The other guys on the show laughed and asked me what the hell kinda question was that. The guy wih the answer told them to shut up and that was a damn good question because he knew exactly who I was thinking of. But the answer was no.

I was stumped and went with Molecule Man. Guess a helmet is not mask.

*Heads out to egg Avenger's Mansion.*

When training goes awry...

So, one of my students is constantly looking for ways to improve. He spotted a stretching machine in a magazine. Simple device, a rope with a loop and some pulleys. My dad had one. Anywho, he decides to rig something up himself, so out into his back yard he goes with some rope. He ties one end of the rope in a loop to slip around his ankle. He ties a stick to the other end and tosses the stick over a tree branch. The stick pulls the rope down so he can grab it.

NOW, me have my student, age 17, with his foot in the loop. The rope running up over the tree branch and back down to him where he is pulling, stretching his legs in hopes of increasing his kicking height. The stick is still tied to the rope and on the ground because there's some slack.

Everyone got the mental image?

Cue the German Shepard.

The dog grabbed the stick and yanked the rope out of my students hand, and even yanked the boy off his feet. The dog keeps pulling as my student tries to push himself up enough to get some slack to free his foot. The dog hung that boy upsidedown out of the tree.

Unfortuanately, the dog gave up before my students younger brother could retrieve the camcorder.

Thank God I'm adopted....

So my mother is on the naming rampage. With my brother and his wife having another daughter, and my own twins due in May, she's hellbent on bombarding us with her suggestions for names. None of these names are even up for consideration because frankly, they'll be our kids and Mom needs to just accept that we ain't naming noe of them "Grace", and she needs to seriously quit calling my niece "Grace" behind my brother's back.

On to the stupid: my mother presented my wife and I with a list of names for our consideration. Mostly girl's names, because she's really hoping for a bunch of granddaughters. Shut up, Barb. xp My wife reads the names as Mom's in the kitchen.

"You've got to be kidding."

"What?"

"Check out the boy's list." Which I do, and please keep in mind that we don't know the gender of twins yet and two boys are entirely possible. On the list was "Clark", which is a perfectly fine name but anyone care to guess WHAT THE VERY NEXT NAME ON THE LIST WAS? stressed stressed stressed

No, no, bloody hell, NO!

Look, we are all comic geeks here, nothing wrong with it, but I will not saddle my children with those names for their benefit as well as my own. Where in the hell does it end?

"...and these are my sons, Bruce and Wayne."

"Bally! Allen! Get in here for supper!"

"Parker! Quit picking on Peter!"

"Honey, have you seen Hal and Jordan?"

Geebus. stressed sweatdrop

And on to me ruling....

So there was Karate Tournament today. My cousin and I went to do some politicing. It was being held by Seishinkai instructors that I had not met yet, including the state representatives for Virginia and West Virginia. Everyone was really nice, made some good friends. I hadn't intended to compete.

I hadn't trained to compete.

It was just a meet and greet.

But I had my gi.

And I had my boat oar. sweatdrop

The head guys told me, go on ahead and enter.

Now I'm the reigning Tri-State Traditional Karate Grand Champion.

The only divisions I didn't win are the ones I didn't enter.

The tournament was followed by a quick kata clinic given by me and lunch.

It's been a busy week.

That thing with your student is prime America's Funniest Home Videos material.

And it would suck if Peter and Parker ended up being jocks who hated comics and geeks.

*Walks in with a bucket of soapy water and scrub brush*
I was in my lab when from outside I heard this maniac screaming obscenities about Stark then this person started throwing eggs at the window to my lab. Someone needs to clean this up!

I'm sure he has a window washing kit somewhere in his armor.

Believe me, if i got every stupid karate moment from my dojo on film I'd be a rich, rich man.

Watch my kids be peotry writing weinies who find comics pedestrian and martial arts thuggery. I'd have to kill 'em both and start over. Good thing we saved the leftovers. xp
