Now, they are really rare because i dont think they make them anymore; i only got mine because of a relative. The one that i have is in bad condition but, surpisingly, there are places that will refurbish them. I mean, chem wash, new pads, the works. We're gonna get it to one of those places probably this summer. If i get any more info on the sax, ill be sure to post it here!

C Melody saxes were made for the purpose of playing in orchestras and symphonic bands. Apparently they didnt really catch on i guess they had alot of problems with the intonation. They are still around you can find em at garage sales and pawn shops. It's hard to find the right mouthpiece for it as well as reed since it's kinda big.

well, from the info on it that i found, u can use a tenor reed on it. but yeah, the mouthpiece must be so hard to find because it uses this screw mechanizm which locks the mouthpiece on. its really weird

If you find a C melody saxophone, it's a relic. They probably stopped making them b/c of the higher percentage of C intruments.
But then again, not too many of those are in a marching band..bassoon, flute, piccolo, melodics, all we have in the key of C.

I think my section leader might have a C melody sax... or some kind of sax thats in a weird key. I've never seen it, though.

I think I've heard of that before... I also think I heard that they have saxes in, like, G and A and stuff like that. There was originally like a sax for every key... or something close to that. But then they narrowed it way down to what there is today. So all the others are really rare now.

okay, so I'm new to the section.
I played alto for the first time yesterday. I started for college. I'm a senior in high school and a double reed who does pit and crash for marchign season. I'm going to be in a military style band in college, so I needed something new. XD heart
