Anyone seen engraved valve caps? I saw this horn once. It was beautiful. All leaves and twirls. So pretty. Someday...

i want engraved caps soooo bad! my provate teacher has caps with yinyangs in the middle and my friend cheryl has vines engraved in hers. lucky. mine are just plain.
but i have a beautful silver Conn 8d, well aged about 14 years old now i love it dearly.
does anyone else admit to loving their instruments more than their boyfriends? i had to tell my BF that my horn and guitar could never be replaced by any humans love.
but i do want engraved caps. and i want an engraved bell on my mello... that would rock... like a rattlesnake for my HS mascot!

I play horn and mello. i like marching mell omore thanhorn cause its a lot lighter. i am the sax section leader cause we have a tiny band. i was the only horn player till this year. there is a kid in the sixth grade band who is learning to play. I got my horn of ebay so it in't the prettiest thing out there. i like our school concert horn better than mine cause its easier for me to play for some reason. my Bd just bought a new Bb marching horn for me to play this year. it was weird switching from F to Bb. It is really nice. it has a 12in. bell and its silver. Its a Yamaha. it cost more than our new contra baritones did. hehe. i love french horn!

i got my horn and mello off of Ebay and they're the best horns i've played. I'm the only horn in my band that owns both instruments. i have a refinished Reynolds that i got for $400, and a 14 yr old Conn 8D, nickelplated, gorgeous. It needs to be refinished and has a dent to be taken out someday but i love it, old looking instruments unless they look crappy are as pretty if not prettier than new ones. plus it doesn't looks bad if you ruin it a little bit more and its less obvious wink .
i had a pencil clip but i lost in on the floor of my room... me and my friend corey, a bone, who i've been teaching horn wants a neckstrap for his horn... a silver yamaha with an removable bell, $100 on ebay (grr) *gasp* blaugh yamaha! this is the most gorgeous yamaha i've ever seen and its amazing... i played it the day after he got it... brand new...it has the most amazing bright warm mello tone i've ever heard... lucky. and its a yamaha... every horn player i know looks down on them and now i can prove them wrong with this amazing creature. sweatdrop

I have a yamaha567. It's a full double, semi-professional.
And I got it free. New. I got a bursary from the BBC (British tv channels). heart

My pencil clip doesn't really fit on my horn. It can go on but it's in a really awkward place.

yeah... i want a handguard and another pencil clip. im gonna order them once i get my summer job to pay for me military... my gloves, whistle, ballguard, case, etc... for my Drum Major camp. if i'm even allowed to go... anyway. my parents say they'll; get them for me for my birthday but i'm going to earn it all... at least work at my dads clinic over the summer to pay up for it. i need approximately $200, for the stuff online from the sites i have. and i'll use the rest to sup up my horn... and my mello. for next years Marching season.
i'm so excited!

I hope you're able to go. It sounds like it would be fun.

Ok, I've been looking into universities recently and have been looking a bit at the music facilities and stuff. In some of them you would have to cycle to get to band/orchestra rehersals. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a horn on a bicycle? I've seen people with guitars on bicycles, they strap it to their back like a rucksack. Do you get them for horns or would you be liable to break your back?

get a soft case, you can find them online probably, the full soft ones are OK as long as they have relly good padding but you can also get semi-hard cases with a soft shell, and you can attach shoulder straps to them... you mgiht look a lil awkward... seeing as people don't usually see a biker with a french horn on their back... but it works.
my private teacher had a soft case with a strap.. i want one so bad my hard case is annoying as heck.
i'm going to stud my hard case though... its gonna rock.

he i can play trumpet, mello and F horn... mellos and trumpets have the same fingerings in our band... both Bb, only mellos are lower... right? even if i'm wrong i can still play it lol. i steal 3rd chair trumpets horn all the time, i have my mello MP with me all the time, so i can play trumpet when i get bored. i would never want to switch to trumpet... but i could switch if i really needed to (to help out the band.. [yeah f*cking right!])
dude our band is so sad... like 10 flutes.. FOUR clarinets... 2 tubas... 2 Bass clarinets, 4 trombones, 3 horns, THREE trumpets, 8 perc., 1 bari sax, 1 baritone, 5 alto saxes, 4 tenors..
this is sad... if you saw our band... you would cry. we're pathetic sweatdrop crying gonk

I would be so scared incase I fell off and hurt my horn.
But I would imagine that you might look slightly snail like. They are that sort of shape.

I'm sure they could be. Can you sit down with one?
But horns just sound so much nicer.

yeah mellos can be played in concert.. but not usually... the other term for mellos is "marching french horn" because they're easier to handle on the streets and field.
omfg... my friend... a trombone player... got me a tshirt... it has a french horn on it... and under the horn is says "this blows" it frekaing rocks i almost cried when i saw it cuz i loved it so much.
so i'm gonna design her a shirt with a trombone on it that says "trombones do it in seven positions" hahaha
