Vamp X
I never used to dance.
Then I went to Uni and didn't dance.
Then I started to dance when I was drunk.
Then I started to dance when I was sober (not very often that happens - me being sober I mean) and I loved it. I was like "Get out of my way; I'm the Dancing Queen!"

xd

I never used to dance either... Not really. Until I was introduced to drum & bass. Then I started dancing like a crazy fool and there was no stopping me. I even had glowsticks at Slinky. surprised

I couldnt sleep last night, so i watched Man on Fire, which kicks a**. Someone explodes internally from their rectum, multiple peoples fingers get cut/blown off, a night club explodes and Aston Kutcher isn't in it. Perfect recipe for an awesome movie i think.

And also, the Da Vinci Code is the finest piece of literature ever written. Everyone has to read that book.

Not unless you molest her, you're just a regular nonce. I think the girl in Beetle Juice was hot, but is now not..

Imagine a documentary about Manchester between the late punk stages and the Mad-Chester scene, presented by Alan Partidge on a coke binge.

That is what 24 hour party people is. Tis really good. 3nodding

My group of friends always used to wear glow sticks out to the union but then everyone started doing it so we stopped. We're such innovators. domokun

I'm so addicted to "LOST".
I watched about 6 episodes last night because my friends off the Digital Effects masters have them all on DivX and I've been camping at their house so I can watch it! I don't like the two main characters though. Kate was interesting at first and Jack bores me. My favourite characters are Locke and Charlie.

I watched Fantastic Four last night, just because I could.

I think it's worth watching just for the Human Torch. domokun

Short reviews of films I have seen recently:

The Woodsman - Kevin Bacon plays a ******. Powerful and moving film about a forbidden subject. It's nice to see it tackled in a very brave film. I can't see it becoming too popular based on the uncomfortable subject matter, but I think it is an important film. ****

The Machinist - People call it a rip-off of Fight Club and Memento. I say it is better than both of them. As much as I enjoyed Memento, I found the pacing confusing and although I guess that could be seen as a good thing because we get to experience things in a similar way to the main character, it made me uncomfortable. Memento is certainly better on the second or third viewing since it needs more than one to figure it out and understand why it needed to be so confused at the end. Fight Club's pacing I didn't get on with at all. I think the unexpected change of pace works well in a book (I love Chuck Palaniuk's writing style) but I didn't feel it translated well to the screen. I thought Fight Club as a film was ok, I have only seen it once, maybe I should try watching it again...

The Machinist took elements from both films and combined them to make what I think is a better movie. The film builds at a fairly constant rate until it's climax and this pacing allows you to take everything in on the first viewing. It doesn't leave you confused as Memento does. For me this makes it feel like a better constructed film, and more enjoyable to watch. Maybe I'll change my mind after the next time i see these three films... ****

I heart Huckabees - My new favourite film. 'nuff said. *****

Pi - My other new favourite film. It's about a Mathematician. It's more interesting than that just made it sound. xp Same director as Requiem for a Dream, but Pi is his directorial debut (not counting his student films). He has 3 more movies in the pipeline, one (the fountain) is in post-production and should be out fairly soon. I'm so excited! *****

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou - Same director as Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums. I loved the look of it, I can see that it is satirical. I still found it a little slow though, and the plot didn't interest me that much. I think perhaps this is a film that men would relate better to. Certainly not Wes Anderson's best film and I feel a tad over-rated. ***

Constantine - A film where Keanu Reeves actually acts, wow. I thought it was stylish and the CG effects didn't seem overdone. It had a real comic-book feel to it. I found it very entertaining. ****

The Tesseract - Directed by Oxide Pang (The Eye, Bangkok Dangerous) and based on a book by Alex Garland (The Beach, 28 Days Later). I feel that this could have been a better film. Some very good cinematography, and really nice sequences, in fact a lot of nice techniques were employed. It just didn't hold together well as a whole film and you probably won't get anything out of it unless you are interested in looking at an experiment in film techniques rather than watching a film. **

Oh... I forgot.

Red Eye - Boring crap. I hate Wes Craven films. I did jump at the most predictable "he's behind the door" moment though. I knew it was coming and I still jumped. Maybe that was because I had been about a second away from being splattered all over the front of a fast-moving truck about 15 minutes before going to the cinema and I was a bit on edge... Only worth seeing if you watch films for the eye-candy.

It gets no stars.

A book review. eek

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time - Mark Haddon

Comes in a childrens and adults edition. It is the story of a 15 year old boy living with Asperger's Syndrome. My older brother has Asperger's Syndrome, albiet to a milder extent than the character in this book, but it is pretty accurate in terms of some of the symptoms my brother displays. Asperger's Syndrome is a form of Autism. People with AS tend to have an acute interest in one subject and are highly intelligent in that area, what they do lack is something that I guess could be called a "social intelligence". They find human emotion difficult to understand, and see things in a much more matter-of-fact way. They take in all the information around them instead of filtering it out like other people can. It is a condition that most people are unaware of, or can't understand. This book does a good job of explaining it by telling the story through the eyes of Christopher Boone, the boy with AS. It is very moving and I particularly enjoyed it because I feel it helped me to understand my brother that little bit more.

Recent DVD Release:

Threads - Anyone notice how they are re-releasing all the old Nuclear war docu-drama films recently? This one was from 1984, the year of my birth. I was shown it just after the DVD release early this month, by some friends from Uni. From about halfway through, nobody made a sound, and for about 10 minutes after, we struggled to begin a conversation!

I can't express how much you need to see this film. Everyone needs to see it. The fact that it is a little dated and the effects are a bit crappy only adds to the realism somehow. Afterwards we were discussing the need for a remake, but I think a remake would never be able to capture the gritty reality of the after-effects of a nuclear bomb. People are so desensitised these days that it would probably just be passed off as fantasy were it made on a bigger budget with amazing sfx.

Be warned though, this is the most depressing thing I have ever seen. It certainly makes no attempt to sugar coat things.

Went to see Pride and Prejudice today... erm... ok, to be honest, my view is slightly bias and I know lots of reviews have been quite positive about it...but...

As a movie in its own right it good. As an adaptation of the book, I give it 7/10. However, if you've read the book or seen the BBC version, you would have flinched at quite a lot of it... Shame about Mr Darcy, and omg, poor Mr Bingley! Why the hell was he turned into a 4 year old brainless idiot with a afro-to-be for a hairstyle?!

Keira Knightley however was surpringly good as Elisabeth and except for giggling too much did Jane Austen justice.

It was a shame about some of the lines but the plot overall was fairly well done and the sceneary was gorgeous.
