Well, he'd found a nice place to sit for a while and enjoy his new book, but his mind couldn't keep from the thought of the plants sitting just a few minutes away. He had to find a new distraction, and soon! But where was he going to go? It felt as though he'd already been everywhere... He sighed, slipped off the bench he was on, and made his way back to the book booth.
"The Goblet of Secrets sounds good, and it's a long one, too!" He said, giving the cover a quick tap or two. "Yes, I'll sit and read you, and then I can consider a new plant! That aught to be good enough, right?"
Oh Nine, he was talking to himself! Was he really this hopeless when it came to plants?
Zephyr, who was still reeling from the fact that he'd picked an adult novel out from the plethora of young-adult books available to him, moved quickly on to the next booth as if someone had seen him reading it. There were other stalls to go to that could keep his mind off of the embarrassing situation, but he didn't really know what he wanted to play. That, and the festival lights were starting to give him a bit of a headache. Did he really want to stay out her much longer anyway?
"Aw, someone dropped their bracelet!" He gasped, leaning down to grab it. "... It is a nice bracelet, though. Maybe I'll keep it and get a new one for the person who lost it if they come looking for it."
Though Laurel understood why Emma had wandered off, he couldn't help but feel saddened by it. What if Emma had left him until they got back to the dorm? He would've been alone the whole festival and he knew that he wouldn't like that! Even if he'd been to festivals alone before, he only did that because he didn't have friends to go with. Now that he had Emma, he didn't want to do things by himself anymore! The demon pouted, holding tightly to Emma's sleeve, and tugged them toward a booth.
"Look at these buckets, aren't they neat?" He asked, patting the... Surprisingly cold balls of fluff within them. "UH... I think these might be enchanted snowballs. They're freezing!"
Emma could tell that Laurel was still focused on the fact that they had left him before and reached out to take his hand. Laurel was a silly boy, wasn't he? He seemed to enjoy getting upset over the smallest things and didn't recognize when he did the same things to others. Hypocritical, but too cute to find annoying, really. The purple haired demon blushed at the thought. What were they thinking? Cute? Laurel we just their friend, nothing else!
"Huh? Freezing?" They questioned, furrowing their brows. How could something that wasn't snow be freezing? Skeptical, they grabbed a bucket of their own and gasped when they reached in to grab one of the balls. "Oh my gosh, you're right, Laurel! These are super cold! I wonder how they got them to do this, it has to be magic!"
Well another plushie liberated but still no sign of things to decorate the dorm room with, also no sign of anyone to snag to explore the festival with. Still Aleis was getting quite the collection. Okay so two wasn’t really a collection, but at least this one was huge. Aleis just hoped by the end of the night they would be able to get everything through their door. They had a feeling they weren’t yet done gathering things. Ah well Aleis would manage something. Hmm maybe Aleis could catch one of those venders and try to be more festive? Or something like that. Well apparently they weren’t fast enough and when they had tried to grab the vender with the free books they had instead moved up just in time to be standing right in front of some one that was giving out plushies. With a composed face Faust accepted the plushie and added it with his other one. They wondered if they set another goal would it end up with another plushie. Well to pass the time Faust could always see about creating a plushie army…. They could be used as deterrents to any one that tried to come into their room. At least they would be cute.
Hailey continued to stare at the wisp. When Nikora offered the candy suggestion, she pondered it, but it was her candyyyy. Such a hoarder. But the stocking suggestion was genius! "OH! That's a super good idea, Niko!" She grinned to the other girl and knelt down to shake a few things out of her stocking. With a small pile of plushies, candy, and such on the ground, she used her stocking to take a shot at the wisp. "Missed!" Tongue now sticking out, she bit down on it some in deep concentration before taking one more swipe. She brought it close in and peeked inside. "Ahhaha! Caught it!" Hailey danced excitedly before giving Nikora a big hug. "You rock!" she said with a grin, scooping up a lollipop and sticking it in her mouth.
Malachi watched in amusement as Hailey tried catching the evasive creature, smiling and giggling to himself. He picked up another potted plant and tucked it in at his side. He went to ask Nikora a question, when he heard a small bleating at his side. He looked down to see a Kidden trying to eat his new plant! "No... Bad Kidden... Bad!" He saw a Grimm wearing green near by and lured the critter over to him. "Uhmmm... Mister? Can you make sure this thing doesn't follow me? He's trying to eat my plants." and without waiting for an answer, even though it was kind of rude, Malachi took off to go back over by the girls. "Phew... that goat almost ate this plant! I need it for Garden Club. Oh! Nikora? Are you in any clubs?" he asked with a smile on his face and a curious look.

Dodger wandered about the grounds, grinning and debating what kind of stuff he wanted to scoop up. Stuff for his girl was a for sure thing. He thought about picking up some more toys in case he got the go-ahead for the adoption, but he was nervous that he might not get the kid and didn't want to get too far ahead of himself. He snitched up a candyfloss and began to tear a piece off to pop in his mouth when a desperate little kid came up to him. If not for the fact that he had really good hearing, he might have missed what the kid said. Peering over to the Kidden, he tried to say something, but the kid was gone. "Huh..." And when the little goat bleated and got up on it's rear legs, trying to take a bite of the candyfloss Dodger had momentarily forgot about, he laughed. "Yeah... You look like trouble. My kind of critter." Tearing off a piece of the candyfloss, he offered it to the familiar, snicking in amusement as it snitched it right up.

Though there was no more books right now to be had, Bobbi felt happier in deciding to stick around the festival. Usually xe wasn't into jewelry and the likes, but even a cute little snowfake bracelet caught the Litch's eye. After paying the ticket the trinket cost, Bobbi slipped it on and admired it. Xe never really had anything, necklace aside, like this before. With a contented and happy feeling, xe continued to wander about the grounds. After a while of wondering, Bobbi came across a poor little cast aside plushie like the others that were beginning to become somewhat of a collection just laying on the ground. The Litch picked it up and was about to try and see if xe couldn't find the owner, but out of the corner of xyr eye, a tear was spotted. The poor thing had been cast aside because of a tear. Taking it up in arms, Bobbi decided that it would have a home with the others like it in xyr place and that xe would do xyr best to stitch it up. It wouldn't have a lonely existence.
Cimara found a booth with fluffy candy, he picked a blue one and walked over to a bench to sit down and eat the candy. Thinking over what he wanted to do next, and what he needed to change in his lesson plans. He was a new teacher and hadn't really found a student body yet to teach. He sighed, then again he started up his class. Wrote up his syllabus, maybe he needed to advertise his class better. He pondered, or maybe he needed to talk to other teachers for tips??
Camrine smiled at Fig "Yes it was a good place to start and made me happy to be doing something with my mother as you, did the same with yours." Cam nodded "Yes I think I know what I will make." She said referring the the sweater, thinking of making him a sweater and scarf. "Do you get very cold this time of year?? Since you aren't fluffy like me??" She asked curiously. She then nodded happily and walked over to the ring toss game with fig. Cam lined up her ring to try and get it over the stick. She squeed with delight when she made the shot and claimed a plushie to give Fig. Then a second and claimed another for herself. (Referring to the plushie I won the other day, I don't think I had found a game to give it to Fig yet.)

Glykeria walked along, she sighed looking around, thinking. Then she spotted a little lollipop game. Gly picked out a lollipop, but she wasn't a winner, so all she got was the lollipop. Which wasn't a bad deal, since the lollipop was big and looked really yummy. "Thank you" she said nicely.

Aeon played another game and won, then she was struck with a problem, could she get another familiar without her cat hurting the other pet?? Aeon bit her bottom lip, uncertain about getting another pet before she knew if they had a dislike for each other, after all she was living in a dorm with other daydreams and nightmares. Familiars fighting, didn't seem like a good idea for a small living space.
Coco found a game, that was set up with big bowls of liquid that looked like fruit punch. The objective was to get the ping pong ball, into a ring floating in the punch. Coco threw a ball and missed. She bite her lip and threw another ball. Missed again. She sighed and picked up her last ball and threw it with her eyes closed. This time she got lucky and got the ball into one of the floating rings. She walked up and looked at the prizes and chose a cute familiar.

Gwen found another booth, there she saw a pretty purple necklace. She picked it up and considered taking it for study, then changed her mind and slipped it around her neck. She smiled and looked around to make sure no one noticed her silly emotion. After all Gwen was a focused scientist not a ninnie.
Xeno tried to think. Was there anything else he wanted to ask Corben? Or had he asked the Baphomet enough? Would he get more opportunities to talk to him? He probably would, at dinner. Maybe he'd get to meet Leif there, too. If Corben was going to date Dad, then that meant that he and Leif were going to be...brothers. Well, sort of brothers? They would be proto-brothers. Yes, that sounded right. Proto-brothers. Unless their dads married...
Was adult life always this complicated? It made Xeno hate being older. He picked up a bag of candies from a passing vendor and accepted a stuffed jackalope from someone else. So many plushies at this event! His bed was going to be swarming with them when he got home...
Y'know, all things considered, Anchriesel was actually having a pretty good day. He had worried that he might get bored at some point, or get annoyed, but Gany was proving to be...well, amenable to Chries's purposes. That sounded horrible, but it was Gany. It was okay. Justified, even. Though part of him wanted to admit that if he himself had had to deal with Foras an a daily basis, he might have gone mad, too... Anchriesel collected another glowing bulb necklace from someone handing them out. Yellow. That was a good color. He put it around his neck and looked around for something else to do.

The fennekit was starting to yip in Wyrdda's arms. She wondered what she would have to do for this little thing...she would have to take it to a vet, wouldn't she? Just to start things off? And she needed a collar for it, too. And a name. Animals needed a name. She looked around...Yule? Would that work as a name? She looked at the fennekit, wiggling in her lap and yapping at passing fennekits. Yes. Yule was a good name. 'So what do you do for fun, Kanda?' she signed.
Okay, so it seemed that Batholith had all of the books they were offering--he'd managed to convince one of the volunteers to let him see the shipping manifest. Yep. Ten books. That was all. He sighed and looked around for something else to do. Um...what hadn't he done so far? He could play more games...honestly, he couldn't remember what games he had played so far. He wandered over to a catapult booth. Crude catapults, powered by means of a mallet, threw little person-shaped beanbags through the air at hoops. Hey, that looked like fun. He accepted a stack of beanbags and put them in place. One...two...damn. Didn't quite make it through that hoop. He got a consolation prize, though--a bag of peanut brittle. Eh. Better than nothing. He loaded the catapult again.
Now that his sock puppet had a scarf, he needed...something else. He picked up a length of pipe cleaner and bent it into a circle. A monocle! Perfect! He tied it to the side of the sock puppet's head and waved it around. "Rah! I'm Mr. Toesington! Hello! I like--Oh, thank you." Someone handed Quilo a bucket full of--white cotton balls?? with a stuffed animal on top. Awww, a blue vespercat! How pretty!
Oriset still was hungry, but most of the food around here looked sweet. Sad. She was hoping for more spicy things. Oh well. She shrugged and got a bouquet--was that the right word for it?--of cotton candy. It had been a long time since she'd last had cotton candy. This one tasted a bit like...berry? Had they flavored the cotton candy? She stared at it, shrugged, and continued eating it. Still tasted good...and it melted on the tongue, which was all that it was supposed to do.
"Yes, yes it does. You see, zat cannon must have oodles und oodles of ammunition. I propose zat a group of us march on zose cannons und...relieve zem of zeir ammunition." He winked conspiratorially. "Vhat is more in ze spirit of ze solstice season zan peace? And how can zere be peace vhen zere is a cannon in operation?" He waggled his eyebrows.
The freshling stared at him. Kuni sighed. "Ve're going to go steal some plushies. Go get some help. Please? Some of your fellow freshlings I'm sure vould like some plushies." He accepted a bracelet from a passerby. Finally, something in the proper colors of the season...
"Isn't...stealing bad?" Ved asked. He didn't want to do something bad. For one thing, he'd get into trouble, and this was one kind of trouble he could not sing his way out of.
But the tree shook its--his? Their?--head. "Plushies are for free in zis event, yes? So ve are not really stealing. Ve're simply getting a few free prizes zat zey vould have given us anyvay. Given you anyvay."
Ved opened his mouth to say something, but something green hit the back of the Dryad's head. A look of unhappiness flickered over the senior's face. Ved snatched up the offending object--a green vespercat. It had been shot out of the cannon... "I'll do it," he said breathlessly. "Just give me two seconds to find some people to help out. I'll be right back, okay?" Without waiting for a reply, he zoomed off, not even noticing when someone dropped a bracelet around his horn.
Zalir settled for taking a seat underneath the big, central solstice tree on a conveniently-placed bench. Zeir mug refilled with hot cocoa, zey pulled out one of zeir new books to read. Someone was hanging candy canes on the tree and glanced down at zem. "Would you like some?" they asked.
Zalir nodded. "Y-yes, please!" Zey accepted the candy gratefully and turned back to zeir book. "Um, thank you!"
So now Ved was an Imp on a mission. Find people to help him get plushies...get the help of that Dryad senior...maybe get protection from them? They seemed like a pretty scary guy, someone to cling onto. Yes. They had to impress the Dryad, befriend them, and then they would have someone to be there for them! He looked around until he spied another fluffy tail in the crowd. He ran over towards it and tapped the person on the shoulder. "Hey, do you want to get plushies?"
Someone tapped Talya on the back and asked her the stupidest question she had ever heard. "Of course I want to get plushies," she said haughtily. "What do you want?"
"I want to get plushies, too," the perpetrator mumbled. It was a fellow Imp--she thought she'd maybe seen him around in the Arkham common room. "Um, there's a Dryad who thinks we can just go up to the cannons and get plushies from the stacks of plushies they have, so that we can have some?"
Talya thought about it. She looked over at the cannon. It certainly seemed to have a lot of plushies to go around... She pursed her lips. "Who all's going?" she asked.
"Um, it's just me right now. The Dryad said I should go find other freshlings who want in on it." He smiled. It was a desperate little smile.
Talya sighed. She'd have to help with this, wouldn't she. She looked around, and spied two likely candidates. "Wait right here," she said. With that, she marched over to the first person, accepting a pair of antlers as she did. She tapped the person--a Nixie--on the shoulder. "Hey, would you like to help us get plushies from the cannon stores?" she asked the person.
Lillian was looking over the stacks of books. There were a couple here that looked like they were about the ocean. That sounded pretty good to Lillian! She wanted to know what other Nightmares thought about the ocean. She picked one book, about a voidmaiden, then felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned to see a...well, a very sharp-fanged Imp. Cannons? Full of...plushies? Well, that was suitably--
Something hit her in the side of her head. "That probably came from the cannons," the Imp said matter-of-factly.
Lillian rubbed the sore spot on her head and examined the the plushie. Another wolf! This one was blue! And yet, it was hard not to be annoyed at the ouch on her head... "If it will stop them from firing at people, then yes," she whispered. "I would like to join."
"Good," the fangy Imp said. She linked her arm around Lillian's. "I'm Talya. Come on, let's find other people."
"I'm Lillian--oh."
"Nice to meet you, Lillian," Talya said briskly. "Come on, let's ask that Demon over there."
Lillian nodded. When they reached the pale Demon, she tentatively patted the other on the shoulder. "Um, we're taking plushies from the, um, from the cannon...boxes...would you like to come with us?"
Evey's parent reassured that nothing bad was going to happen, Evelyn had proceeded to do what she always did--look for more candy. She took a bag of brick-shaped candy from an adult and gravely examined it. When she tasted it, she smiled. It was peanut-buttery. It stuck to her teeth. But it was sweet and it was salty, and it was crunchy and the peanuts were a little chewy. It was good stuff, then. Someone tapped her on the shoulder and she turned around to see an Imp and a Nixie. She listened to their proposition while she finished her mouthful.
"My parent says that it's technically called a cannon magazine. Dunno why. But it is." She closed the bag up with its bow and put it back in her stocking. She wiped her sticky fingers off on her skirt and her mouth off on her sleeve. "I would love to. It sounds like a very exciting adventure."
The Imp nodded in approval. The Nixie looked slightly startled. At least, she was pretty sure that's what the expression was. Evey tilted her head this way, then that. Okay. That's where they were standing. She stuck out a hand. "I'm Evelyn."
The other freshlings took her hand, one by one. "Talya."
"Lillian."
"Nice to meet you. Um, I'll be right back--I've got to tell my parent where I'm going."
While the girl was finding more people to recruit, Ved looked around for someone else he could bring in. He was attracted to what appeared to be a Litch and a Demon chatting away with each other, a spectrefox at their side. Either they had just come back from dropping off their stuff somewhere, or they had only just arrived. He looked around for the Imp girl, saw her walking around with a couple of other freshlings, then turned towards the Demon and the Litch. Yeah, he had time to recruit them before the girl got back...he jogged over to them and patted the Litch on the shoulder. "Hey, um, my friends and I are going over to the cannons to get some plushies. Wanna come with?"
Teo had said yes in the end, and it had been kind of fun showing off his dorm to Teo. Well, sort of. Less showing it off than sort of standing there saying "Yep, this is it." His Pumpkas had slid out from their various places to greet the Nightmares, and to greet their new friends. The birds screamed at them--the word "fricking" had showed up a lot. Peri was proud of them. They were learning how to talk! As he put his plants away on the window sill where the pumpkas couldn't get to them, Teo had suggested that they take the birds with them back to the hall--to prevent them from getting...mischievous. Peri had agreed. They were just too cute to leave alone for any period of time!
Peri accepted an orange bracelet when they returned to the event, turning it this way and that to admire the different shades on the bracelet. Someone tapped Teo on the back. Peri listened to their offer and looked over at Teo. "What do you think, Teo?"
Teo thought about it, licking the peppermint lollipop someone had handed him at the entrance. "I have pretty much all of the stuffed animals there are to earn," he said. "I'm blind," he added for the stranger's benefit. "So I can't really see any of my plushies. I'm trying just to collect the ones that I can tell apart by shape."
The stranger let out a sigh. "Oh. You, um, you have all of them, then?"
Teo nodded. "I've got a fox, two vespercats, an alicorn, a fluffball, four bats, a kidden, some sort of teardrop thing I'm told is a sealpup, and a cat. A lot of them are at home," he added. "I got some at Haunted Hallows."
The stranger's next words sounded cheerful. "But there's way more than that now! They brought in a new shipment about half an hour ago. Now there's, like, goats and wolves and fennekits and stuff."
"Sounds like fun," Peri said.
Teo smiled ruefully. He was going to have to give in, wasn't he. "Alright, then," he said. "We're in. My name's Histeol, but my friends call me Teo for short. My friend here is Perigor."
"But call me Peri! I'm the--"
"He's the fun one, yes," Teo said quickly. Oh no, Peri, please don't introduce yourself as the evil one again! "What's your name?"
"My name's Vederat. It's really nice to meet you, Teo and Peri! Come on, there are some girls meeting us at the book booth."
Guereda sighed. Well, it was inevitable that Evey would find something she wanted to do, people to hang out with...but they would be lying if they said that they hadn't been hoping that she would stick around for the whole festival. Reda liked having someone around to talk to and pour affection all over. It looked like Evey was going to go out and enjoy herself, though. "Have fun," they said. "Meet me back here at five, okay?"
Evey nodded. "Yes, Dada. Don't worry, we'll be careful!" She waved good-bye and trotted along beside her companions to the meeting spot. An Imp, a blind Litch with one wing, and a Demon--or maybe it was a hybrid--were waiting for them. Introductions were made all around, and they set off to find the Dryad.
Meanwhile, back at the booth, Reda looked around at the books. One book in particular caught their eye--a book about a demon girl. Well, that looked interesting! They picked it up and slid it into their stocking. This would make an excellent gift for Evelyn!
"I'm Bo. Nice to meet you!" The geist had made plenty of friends in his time at school, but none of them had ever treated him quite like this. Like he was important. A life saver. He could get used to this.
He glanced over at the grimm as ze trailed behind, looking around at everyone and everything ze passed. At Ayuu's shoulder hovered a pale wisp, similar to the one Bo kept in his room but blue instead of purple. "Looks like you got a friend!"
"Wha?" Ayuu's ears flicked nervously as the grimm looked around, catching sight of the wisp that had joined zem. At first ze had thought Bo had meant the friend ze had made had been him, and the thought had left zem jittery. Happy jittery, but still jittery. But upon seeing the wisp, Ayuu smiled, reaching out to touch it. The creature alighted on zir hand, right next to the glowing necklace.
"Bo, loo—"
The grimm's awe was cut off by a surprise snowball to the face.
The bird continued to squawk until Sidney calmed first. After that it seemed content to remain silent as long as he let it pick at his hair. He had never been at the mercy of a familiar before, but after approaching a number of instructors about it and receiving nothing but good natured chuckles in return, he realized he was probably stuck with it.
"Are you hungry, you little b*****d?" he muttered, bringing the bird over to one of the food tables. It ignored the proper things it might have eaten, diving off of Sidney toward a nearby flitterat instead.
