Monday Morning....
The official kickoff to Ghoul Spirit week.
There was a buzz in the air at Monster High that couldn't be matched...it was Ghoul Spirit week! An entire week of dressing up, hacktivities and campaigning for Tombcoming Scream King and Queen. The student bodies exited the school hearses and their own cars and began to congregate near the steps, gossiping about their freakends and their plans for the upcoming week.
At the head of the stairs, seated on Nitemare, Headmistress Bloodgood removed her head and held it high so all of the students could hear.
"Welcome, students, to Ghoul Spirit Week!"
A cheer rose up among the kids.
"I expect that you all are prepared for day one? Dress like Mummy or Daddy day?" Indeed, amongst the crowd were some very great outfits that the students had clearly borrowed from their parents. Frankie Stein had teased her hair up into the tallest updo she could, and Cleo DeNile was wearing a stunning set of gilded-script bandages. Clearly, Cleo took dressing like Mummy (or daddy) very seriously. On her right hand she wore a giant, shining scarab-shaped ring that flashed in the sunlight. Even Draculaura had gotten in on the act, wearing one of her father's capes with a collar so high she couldn't see anything to the left or the right. The Headmistress had eschewed her normal purple attire for leather riding gloves and a pumpkin-colored ensemble that evoked her own father. She smiled down at the students.
"I am very impressed with how much monster pride and school spirit I'm already seeing!" A cheer rose up from the student bodies, just as the first bell rang. As the students came inside to go to their lockers and head to their first class, the Headmistress reminded them.
"Remember! We have a large list of candidates for Scream King and Queen! Get your names and faces out there! Good luck to all of you!"

Kai listened to HH Bloodgood's announcement with a smile on his face. This was going to be an hexciting week. He was nominated for Tombcoming Scream King - like nearly a dozen other boos, but to be honest, Kai wasn't really the regal type. He hoped someone more deserving got the title, maybe someone whose ghoulfriend would actually be at the dance to share in the festivities.
No, what hexcited Kai was just the overwhelming feeling of school pride leaking everywhere from all of the students. It felt...inspiring, like the one thing he had been missing while trying to decide exactly what his project for the big Art Class Hexhibition should be.
"Nero! Looking good, brutha!" Kai gave his beastie a high-five as Nero took off his coat and revealed his full Monday regalia. For his part, Kai had borrowed some of his dad's lab gear. Since Kai didn't have a monster parent, per se, he hoped dressing as a mad scientist would pass muster for the day's theme.

For once, Draconia was grateful for Glen's offer of a ride to school in the morning. Her mother had sent her the perfect outfit for the first Ghoul Spirit day - Draconia's personalized set of armour, crafted in the very image of the suit her father wore as the official Dragon Advisor to King Arthur on the misty island of Avalon that Draconia originated from. It was shiny, created from ancient suits of armour her father had amassed over the years, but it was a bit ungainly for everyday wear and Draconia fretted about walking to school in it, for fear of mussing it up. It really was only supposed to be for special occasions, but she'd never had a chance to show it off to all her mates, so she'd pleaded with her mum until she'd relented and sent it by spellpost to the Looking Glass.
*SCREEEEECH-CHUNK.*
Glen's ginormous SUV came to a rocking stop in the two parking spaces it always wound up occupying when Glen parked, and Draconia spilled out, adjusting her tiara. She'd pleaded Glen into driving slowly so as to avoid knocking her hair out of place, and as a result they were a bit later than they should have been.
"Oh dear...musn't be late..." Draconia fumbled with her book bag. Glen had nominated her for Tombcoming Queen, much to her chagrin, and although she'd rather have battled an entire village of angry peasants with torches and pitchforks than stand up on stage and accept the award, Draconia did think it was at least proper that she try to represent the role of Queen Nominee with decorum, and that included being on-time for all of her classes.

Sally had heard the announcement, and remembered what the other ghouls had told her about the spirit week, and tilted her head as she walked towards the school. Dressing like her father wasn't too hard, it was just a good thing she had suits of just about every color!
She wandered ahead, glancing around at the passing students, her tendrils on her back lazily hanging, a couple carrying books.

Marceline was utterly baffled by the idea of dressing like one of her parents, until she realized she dressed almost exactly like her father already. Content to leave it at that, her doommate Anne had other ideas.Quote: "That seems like a cop-out to me..." She said, holding up various furs to herself in the mirror. "I mean, you dress like your dad every day; why not try dressing like your mom instead?" Uncertain of how to pull that off, Marceline ended up improvising with a black satin tablecloth Maman had given her for the doomitory, wrapped around a simple white skirt. She hoped nobody would notice...
Meanwhile as she walked the halls towards her first class, Marceline couldn't help but notice a smattering of approving gestures in her direction. She smiled slightly, assuming that her ensemble was a hit after all, until a random voice clearly rang above the chatter. "Hey, Marceline the Tombcoming Queen! You got my vote, ghoul!" She bit her lip, remembering that she had been nominated for Tombcoming Queen last week... apparently she was a more popular choice than she had originally thought? She hugged her books close to her as she slipped into Dead Languages.

JD adjusted his tie in the rearview mirror, sitting in the front seat of his new convertible... electric blue, this time. Dad wasn't pleased to hear he'd wrecked the first one, just after installing a boss new soundsystem; thankfully the latter wasn't much damaged and was able to be transferred into the new car. He cranked the bass until the school's windows rumbled, savoring in his favorite part of the song before getting out of the car and heading in.
The week leading up to Tombcoming was Ghoul Spirit Week, and first day entailed dressing up like one of your parents. JD took the easy route and dressed in a full suit, borrowed from his paw-litician father before leaving the East Ghost. As a Tombcoming King nominee, he had to look sharp; no better way to do that than putting on a suit.

Glen hurried up alongside his Drakie, sitting side saddle on the broom he had 'borrowed' from the closet in his castle's cupboards as they maneuvered down the halls toward their firstg classes of the day. "You look great, Drakie! You're a boo-in to win Tombcoming with an outfit like that! I kinda had to explain to mom why I wanted to borrow her ceremonial hat and cloak.""Why?" Draconia asked as she moved alongside of him, determined to make a good impression toward the school voters and her nomination -- thanks to her little green bluddy. Glen shrugged. "She thought that gender swapping virus we all caught last year was back."

"Whoaaaa! Total Mad Scientist alert!"Chase trotted up, eyeing Kai's school spirit with appreciation. Chase then turned and knuckle bumped with Nero, one of the only boos at school besides Manny that was tall enough to look him in the eye. "Fangulous school spirit as far as the eye can see! Check it out!"Chase removed his helmet and showed it off to the two boos. "It was my pop's in old Greece! The ol' man was mighty proud to see me wearing it off to school! Colt tried ... kept tumbling over it was so darned heavy."

Ronan had puzzled over what to wear for spirit week for quite some time on Sunday, even phoning his mother to ask, and of course quietly enquire if she was feeling alright. The knitted orca hat she'd sent him had him a little confused and convinced she was either making some kind of ironic statement, or had totally lost her mind. Reassured that she wasn't in fact mad, they'd spent a while discussing traditional Selkie garb and Ronan had quickly deduced that it simply was not practical for a day at school. Selkie after all, weren't much known for wearing much in their true forms and adopted mostly normie fashions when on land.
So at his mother's suggestion, he'd opted instead to embrace his normie side and dug out his Bunad.
He hadn't dressed like this in a long while, not since his cousin's wedding which through some family politics had meant he and his mother were invited. They'd behaved admirably of course, but the normies still shunned them. In hindsight, it had perhaps been a mistake to release the caged doves but they'd looked so miserable stuffed into such a small cage.
He adjusted his hat, made sure his sock tassels were tied and did his best not to feel too conspicuous. Thankfully everyone else's outfits were spectacularly over the top, it was fascinating to see so many different cultures and traditions all mingling together.

At first, Jewel's father hadn't been particularly helpful with ideas for ghoul spirit. He argued, between fistfulls of scorn chips that Mole Men didn't really HAVE a traditional dress persey. Her own mother's wardrobe was little help, dusty but beautiful vintage frocks, though stunning, hardly evoked the sort of image she was certain the day's theme was supposed to.
At last her father suggested perhaps she should wear his old mining helmet, though he couldn't quite remember what he'd done with it. The evening's search turned into quite a hunt and Jewel's mused that she really hadn't spent so much time with her father in a very long while. It was good to have some time to chat and when they did finally stumble upon the old helmet, half buried under a pile of ancient newspapers and bags, she was almost disappointed.
Monday morning and the young mole ghoul found her way up through the catacombs, tipped her helmet to Operetta and joined the rest of her schoolmates bustling around the corridors in splendour.
Feeling a little self concious; after all, Mole folk weren't exactly the most glamorous of monsters; Jewels shied away from the throngs of people chatting excitedly and tired to keep a low profile as she made her way to her locker. Her father's helmet was far too big and she kept having to readjust it to see where she was going, which is precisely how she managed to walk straight into the large bulky form of Chase.
"oo... caverns below.. i'msosorry...Ididn'tmeanto.." She looked up.. .and up... and up a bit more at the large centaur and shrank back a little.

Motthew grinned as he flew towards the school, avoiding looking at the sun. He'd already talk to the Headless Headmistress and now he just needed to attend class. She had told him about the spirit week, but the first day didn't seem like anything he could really do.
He slowed and landed in the bell tower, watching the students walking by.
"Hello, Monster High!" he said with a laugh. He stretched his arms before keeping them out and floating down tot he door on a down draft of wind, "Ah, you are more impressive than your Headless Headmistress led me to believe." he laughed to himself and he walked in, holding a piece of paper that had his locker number on it. He made sure to focus on the paper, keeping his sunglasses over his eyes at all times.

Dashner slowly nodded. Spirit Week. He was glad that the parent day was only one day; he hated dressing up in 'scientist gear.' He had gotten an oh so anonymous email on his iCoffin telling him he should just go to school in a chicken suit... Gee, wonder who that could be? He waved at a few monsters that he didn't know. After all, he was running for Scream King, he needs to get his face out there, right?
Falconnie walked behind him, dressed as a mad scientist assistant. As they approached the different lockers, she slowly branched off from him to make it to her locker. He saw Ronan, and decided to go say hello.
"Yo yo yo, bro! Good morning."

As Doriana entered the school, her long dress swept against the floor. Doriana stressed about this day all weekend, she didn't think she'd have the time to pull Spirit Week over. Her aunt delightfully called down to her parents, where they had some of her mother's apparel shipped to her aunt's quarters. Doriana was never in a very close relationship with her mother like some monsters, but she adored what her mother wore.
That day, Doriana was wearing a long, blue dress with red seams and beautiful decorations. The dress 'poofed' out, as the normies called it. Tied to her back was a seal skin cloak. Her hair fell into the cloak, her aunt gave her some extensions since she usualy went with short bobs.
The hallway was filled with different looking monsters reflecting their cultures. She quickly spotted Marceline hurrying off to class, and was able to get a wave. Picking up her dress, she ran to her locker to get her books. Dashner and Ronan stood near. She smiled, turned around, and headed off to her first class of the day.

Dashner Hawke "Yo yo yo, bro! Good morning." Rory tapped on the mirror inside of Ronan's locker and waved at his two friends."Hey, guys." In a moment, Rory was behind the two of them, having reflected into the hallway. "Wow, you guys look great. I'm kind of nervous. This is my first Ghoul Spirit week. I'm not sure if I can pull it off right. I swear I'm going to get stress cracks."Rory tightened the large Eduardian bow tie he was wearing. Rory liked modern, casual clothes, and this felt equivalent to having a noose around his neck."Have, uh, have either of you seen Marceline? I wanted to see if I could talk to her before class."

" Bro, that armor is SICK," Nero said, rolling the helmet around in his hands before passing it back, " but you're not going to top me." He flashed Chase and Kai a grin and took off his coat, temporarily blinding his bluddies. His whole body seemed to glitter."Whoa, Nero, that is...a LOT of bling." " Yeah, it's great right? Papa loaned it to me, it's stuff that was found in the tomb along with me. 5000 years old, beat THAT for vintage!" He struck a pose. Gold encircled his wrists, ankles, throat, and even bits of his hair. His piercing had been traded in. Gone were hoops and studs, replaced with scarabs. It was still warm enough that Nero could get away with the traditional clothing of his people, which for him was a verifiable cultural excuse to finally not have to wear a shirt at Monster High.
