"Then where you would like us to start?" Lin asked, "Where we all come from? Where we've been on the continent we came from? Or maybe one of the islands we've been to?"
There was a lot, especially since Galanna admitted to not hearing much about other places.

"Why don't you first tell me where you're from?" Galanna requested. "It' as good a place as any to start, and means the most to you, I'm sure."
Aennan returned with a tray of drinks and passed them out to everyone - first Daron and Iorlas, as they were nearest the door, then Earendil and then Lin. Once Lin had her drink, he set the tray on the small table in front of Galanna and took a seat next to Aranxia.

Cradling the herbal drink between her hands, Lin nodded at this. That was probably good as any place to start. It did mean the most to them, true.
"Well... I'm from a place called Gaia," Lin started, "And Earendil and Dareon are from the Southland, on the continent known as the Four Lands, and Iorlas..."
She wasn't sure where she should say Iorlas came from, she might not have even started out in the Westland, and she glanced over at her.

Iorlas smiled gently. "I was a wanderer for a long time," she said softly. "When they found me, I had settled for a time in the Westland, in the Four Lands."
"Then we are all quite far from our roots," Galanna murmured. "Though I suppose most of the people here are so. Many of us, certainly. But I have always felt that was a blessing. After all, it gives us diversity in everything that we have and everything that we do, doesn't it? Variety in food and clothing and music and ... everything."

Lin could not disagree with that. Even though everywhere they had been to was a bit different, but she could see the Four Lands in places she's been to. Here, with all the variety kind of reminded her of home, and at the same time it was so very different.
"It does, it's been quite a joy to walk through the city and explore everything," Lin nodded in agreement before taking a careful sip of her tea.
Her mind backed up and re-named it the herbal drink. In her mind, she thought that was an excellent name to bring back to the Four Lands if she ever wanted to introduce other people to the joy of 'tea'.

At that comment, a wistful look briefly crossed Galanna's face and then was gone again.
"I have heard great things about the city, but it's been a long time since I've seen any of it," she said ruefully. "Unfortunately, my immobility is too limiting for that. Still, there are things that make it easier to be here all the time. My husband takes excellent care of me, Aennan visits often, and Aranxia does her painting here during the day now."
"Immobility?" Iorlas asked hesitantly.
Galanna smiled. "It's very difficult for me to get around. At best, I can make it from here to the kitchen. Leaving the house - impossible. It does mean that I have a lot of time on my hands, so I do a lot of embroidery."

Lin wondered if that was why the rocking chair was out on the porch. Though her mind wandered to wondering if there were ways to help Galanna at least be able to see more of the city.
"If you don't mind me asking," Lin ventured, "How did you come to be immobile?"
She asked this softly, knowing that might not be an answer she would want to give. Depending on what the answer was.

"I don't mind at all," Galanna reassured Lin with a smile. "I was the unfortunate recipient of a poison many years ago, when we were on our way to this country. There is no cure for it, but thankfully there is medicine which has kept me alive this long. It doesn't stop it completely, though, so I'm very weak. Some days are better than others, of course, but I'm afraid I do spend most of my days right here."
"My brother is one of the best fishermen in the city," Aennan spoke up, "but rather than living near the shore, like I do, they stayed here, near the physician." He pointed towards the window. "He lives there, just two houses down."

Whatever Lin had been expecting, poison wasn't one of them. It made her... a bit sad that something like that had to happen. She wished there was a way to at least allow Galanna to see what was out there.
She nodded to where Aennan was pointing, "It's great that you're able to live close to the physician."
She looked back at Galanna.
"Is there anything though that maybe we can do to bring a bit of the outside world to you?" she really didn't know what, besides stories.

Galanna smiled, her dark eyes sparkling brightly. "Thanks for the thought, but really, I'm quite happy. My husband works hard, at his job and here, but we are very happy together. True, when Aennan bought a house of his own, I was lonely during the days when Lykor is at work ... but Aranxia is here now, and she is wonderful company. I keep busy. All things considered, I'm fairly healthy. And I'm alive, which is already more than I ought to have."
"Galanna has never felt sorry for herself," Aennan began, but his sister-in-law wagged her finger at him.
"I most certainly did," she corrected him sternly. "You were too young to remember, but when we first arrived here, I was quite unpleasant to be around." She turned back to her guests and smiled ruefully. "It took me quite a while to realize what a blessing it was that I managed to survive. There is no going back, so why dwell on it? I am content."

Lin smiled at that, it didn't matter that Galanna did feel sorry for herself at the beginning, it still made her a brave woman in Lin's eyes.
"Still, it makes you an amazing person," Lin replied softly, "Though, back to your initial topic, are there any questions or stories you'd like to hear from our homes or our travels?"

"Yes." Galanna smiled widely, like a child who had just been given the gift of choosing whatever it was that they wanted. "I could ask about the Four Lands, but I have a feeling they will end up being quite similar to countries here, at least in enough ways that I needn't be too curious about them at the moment. Besides, Aranxia has already told me quite a bit about the Southland. But I must admit, Lin, I have never seen anyone like you before. I would like very much to know about where you came from. What race are you? What is your home like?"

Lin chuckled a bit as she thought about it. Gaia was so... complicated sometimes, she never realized it until she began to spend most of her time in the Four Lands.
"That's a large question, I'll start with the first," Lin finally replied.
She thought about all the angels she knew growing up and she knew she was a bit of an odd angel. Second angels did not normally sprout wings, so she ditched that part of her explanation.
"My race are called Angels, our feathered wings and ability to actually fly with those wings is often what defines us. Like elves, there are many types of angels, some have more than two wings, they can come in variety of colours and sizes. Some of us grow gradually like any elven child you're familiar with, while others grow suddenly in stages and they tend to age very quickly."
Though not always she found, after all it took Toshiro forever to grow into an adult as far as a stage grower was concerned.

"Angels," Galanna repeated thoughtfully. "I see ... but are you from our world, then? I know that there is much that I don't know about our world, but ... even I cannot believe that there would be an entire race of which I have never heard before."
She might not get out much, but that didn't mean she was completely unlearned.

Lin shook her head but grinned from ear to ear. Galanna was quick, most people assumed or wondered if she was from Laurefalas before even thinking of another world.
"No, Gaia is actually the name of the world I come from, rather than the specific area I come from. Most people find that a bit hard to wrap their heads around the idea, so I've come to just describe it as my birth home or my homeland. Otherwise I end up confusing people," she admitted with a laugh.
