Sebastian was wandering down the hallway when he heard two voices ... three? four? down the way. He ducked behind a wall and listened for a moment. It seemed like someone was ... talking to themselves? No, there were a few different tones, it must've been more than one person.

He dared to poke his head out from behind the old, musty wall and was abruptly greeted by an odd sight. It was a dog- hellhound maybe- of some sort talking with a ... well it looked like a giant cat.

Just as Sebastian was about to walk over to the twosome a voice echoed out of nowhere.

What do you fear? What is it that each of you fears most in this world?

FEAR? Wasn't that what halloween citizens were supposed to cause? Why would he fear anything?

Of course, that's just what he was telling himself. Deep down, Sebastian had some fears of his own. Maybe not something like "fear of losing loved ones" or "fear of humans" or big issues, but certainly little things, like lightning or bugs.

Step up and look into this mirror of truth, kids.

So he had to look in a mirror? That seemed like a reasonable deal. After all, it was just a mirror.

Look into it and tell me what you're afraid of. If you do that, if you face your fear, you may pass.

That was a bit more... terrifying. Having to look straight into the thing you fear most ... somehow it seemed a tad .... intimidating? Still, Sebastian was eager to continue through the maze of house corridors, if not to admire the design work more, then to talk to the two odd boils.

Sebastian gulped- out of instinct more than necessity, he was dead after all and then inched towards the mirror.

Inside was a gurgle of colors and blobs that swirled until they finaly formed a solid image. It was Sebastian, surrounded by people he knew or would meet, or hoped to meet. Yorick was there, as was Hellma, the two boils- it was a whole slew of people. They were all smiling, patting him on the back, talking to each other. He was amongst friends, and people who respected him. Sebastian's face curled into a rarely seen smile- it was a happy image, one he'd always imagined he'd be part of once he came to Amity. People would be proud of him, like him, associate with him, perhaps even love him.

How could this be scary?

No sooner had he thought the words than the image started changing. Slowly, people began to frown. Some looked disgusted. Some were disappointed. One person walked away in horror. Another was frowning. Hellma was shaking her head as though he had done something incredibly disappointing. Yorick was looking at him with utter confusion, mouthing something like "how could you?" or maybe "why?"

One by one, the people began to walk away. Although it was just an image, Sebastian felt himself reaching out to the image, and quietly whispering, "No ... please don't ..." As his finger touched the glass, it was like he had really touched into the illusory world. The people screeched at his touched and began to fled. Soon, only Yorick remained by his side.

Sebastian was completely caught in the dream world created by the mirror. Sebastian looked to the ground, as if the answer was on the floor, and whispered, "W-why Yorick ... why did th-..." When he looked back up though, Yorick was whispering words not even Sebastian could understand.

It was the words of a spell.

Realization dawned on Sebastian. He put his hand against the glass and said, "No ... Yorick please don-" but it was too late. In the mirror image tears began to fall down Yorick's face, and he whispered the last word. Sebastian's body crumpled, the soul extinguished from the shell of his corpse. Yorick had taken his spell back- meaning Sebastian was no longer needed, no longer wanted. Two undead fists slammed against the glass, but it didn't break. He hit it again and again, but to no avail. Finally, he put both hands on the glassy surface and rested his forehead on the image. "N-no," was all he could utter.

Just like that, the mirror was gone and Sebastian stumbled forward. He stared at his hands in blank desperation. He was still there. Still dead.

With a deep sigh he collapsed against the wall with a loud thud, not caring if anyone had just heard him. His eyes were wide with terror, and if he could struggle to catch his breath he could. He sighed and put his head in one of his hands. The other hand combed through his hair softly.

Just what the hell kind of prank was this?

Off to the side of Faint and Damien, Vero mumbled, "Just a mirror . . . just a vision . . ."

Huddled, hooded, mumbling. It might have almost been Halloween Town's equivalent of a vagrant, slightly off kilter hobo.

"Just a m-mirror, just a vision . . ."

Its voice still wobbled.

After a few seconds Vero turned to the two boils, its wide eyes inspecting them for signs of similar trauma. Apparently they were faring better than it was. "We . . . We wish we hadn't done that," it commented after a short pause.

Would Natalia make it as well? Mooka had at the least, and Vero nodded to the strix in greeting, as well as the new boil who collapsed against the wall.

Draining. Yes, that was a good word for the experience.

Thanatos, huddled beside the chimera, arms slowly unlatching from their death-grip in his own flesh, went to clutch at the ghoul beside him, shuddering as he tried to will away the phantasms that had been pulled from his own mind. "Papa not coming for Than...no no no no..." He whispered, face buried in Merry's arm as he shut his eye tight, dark lashes fanning out against alabaster skin. "M-Merry-bird...the mirrors are liars...bad bad naughty horrible false liars..." He whispered, still teary and shaken from the vision of his foreboding sire in the reflection of the eerie glassworks.

As the images faded, he slowly began to be able to breathe once more, that constricting tightness in his chest releasing the iron bonds that had seized control within him. He had nearly panicked, nearly fled...but he'd stood his ground somehow, though mayhap it was simply from knowing....experience telling him that there would have been worse punishment to come had he turned tail and fled. Tail slowly sweeping around, it twined with Merry's, and the pup moved to stroke her crimson hair gingerly, trying to comfort her in her obvious distress. "S'gone, Merry-Merry..." He whispered, "All beautiful disappeared away..." Though there was that quaver in his voice that indicated he was trying to convince himself of this selfsame fact.

;____; Weren't haunted houses supposed to be a bit more fun than this? Than wasn't sure, but this was supposed to be a festival, not torture!

After wandering about the festival and trying out a few of the games, Aksaja found himself standing and staring up at the Haunted House. This actually looked . . . pretty interesting. Tch, it probably wasn't even scary. Maybe. There had been some scary things during his time at this school, but oddly enough, not much of it had actually been AT the school.

More like on the Jack-damned field trips. At any rate. Time to go inside!

. . . . . All right, already he was scared. Mostly of the glitter everywhere. What in the Jacking hell happened in here? Someone set off a glitter-canon or something? Geez. Stepping carefully around the worst of the stuff, the lightning dragon ended up wandering through the archway and down the hall, tilting head a bit as he heard voices up ahead. And some screaming. Huh, seemed like the place was at least a bit of a success.

One voice in particular sounded familiar, though. Was that . . . ? It was. "Than?!" Aksaja called out, suddenly taking off running down the hall. He also stumbled right over the very person he was looking for as he charged into the darkened area, pulling up to a stop just in time. "Are you all right? What happened?" he asked, looking from Than to the ghoul he didn't know and back again.

Slitted eyes had slammed shut against the horrible images reflected in the mirror, and when Than uncurled himself from his frightened ball to cling to her arm she hid her face against the dark silk of his hair. Clinging to the smaller monster in a bid for comfort, his and her own.

It hadn't been real. Nothing more then a vivid illusion pulled from her own mind, but it had looked so horrifyingly real.. Her body wasn't tearing itself to pieces, she would feel it happening. Nothing shy of pure agony, she was certain of it. "All lies, just an illusion." One pale hand smoothed down the pup's hair and back, petting him gently in slow, endless strokes. Her composure returning in leaps and bounds until she was, if not calm, then no longer obviously freaked. Reclaiming the familiar role of protector and guard for the worried hound in her arms. She couldn't afford to fall apart, not when he needed her.

She peeked up from his hair as he assured her the mirror had vanished, then lifted her head completely to stare down the hall where it had been. Bright eyes narrowing in the darkness. What had that been about? She didn't know what the Jack a haunted house was, but she could only assume by Thanatos' reaction that things of that nature were not normal. "We should probably start moving." They'd spent enough time on the floor.

A voice in the dark distracted from the plan though, and the chimera whipped her head around towards the sound of someone running towards them down the hall. Stiffening as the dragon came into view and very nearly didn't stop in time to void running them over. "Mirrors," was her one word response to the other boil's question. a single pale finger raising from the pup's crown to point further down the hall.

"Yeah anything has to be better then sparkling cuddle bunnies..." Sin muttered with a frown and then laughed and gave Julian a comforting pat. Well the mirror was past at least and the rest of this place wasn't too horrible, at least not compared to wild vines, puff bunnies, and terrifying mirrors.

She turned and looked at Rosc surprised by how well he was handling the sudden movements. What had he seen in the mirror that made him so mellow now? Her fingers gently caressed his and she smiled a bit hoping he was alright. Great idea sin drag your paranoid blind boilfriend into a haunted house. Yeah definitely low on her list of intelligent choices.

Sebastian was slowly returning back to Halloween and growing farther away from the illusory world that had so captured him in the mirror. His eyes returned to their normal and he took a deep breath; not to get air in his lungs of course (he was dead after all), but to return himself to the casual world of the haunted house.

Oh crap. There were voices in the hallway. Did they witness that embarrassing display? He stood up abruptly and found himself facing a few ghouls and a multiplying number of boils. Throwing his hood up, and said, "Ah ... sorry you had to watch that." He wasn't about to apologize for his actions, simply that he looked so uncool whilst doing it.

Turning to the boils he said, "My name is Sebastian ... nice to meet you ..." What else was he supposed to say? Weren't boils supposed to talk about bruteball and things?

Instead he simply mumbled, "Could I uhm ... "tag along" with you?" So I can stop being freaked on on my own, he thought. No way he was going to say that out loud though- lest they thought he was some sort of scaredy cat.

((I’m to late to enter into the contest, but I’d still like to post this up so it doesn’t look like my character just walked through without seeing anything BD;

stairway))

What do you fear?

The question echoed throughout the stairway, and now poke had the distinct feeling she was being watched. She looked around to see who it was, but the only thing she could see was…a mirror?

The voice spoke again, telling them to look into the mirror to see their greatest fear. This...was an interesting command. What was her greatest fear? There weren't many things that she was afraid of. When it came to something scary, she would just focus on her strength and fight whatever it was. As long as she was strong, then what did she have to fear? That was her logic.

Slowly, she moved in front of the mirror and peered into it.

At first, poke couldn’t see a thing. What was this? She was pretty sure she wasn’t afraid of the dark. But as she continued to watch, the mirror’s reflection began to take on shape and form. She leaned in closer so she could get a better look…

A severed head stared right back at her, its face a mask of pure terror.

She jumped, obviously startled by the sudden image, but still slightly confused. It was only when she stood back that she realized that there was something holding the severed head. Not for long, as the head was suddenly hoisted up and then disappeared down the mouth of a haunting familiar blue dragon…

All of a sudden, it turned around, revealing in the background a group of...humans? Reapers? She couldn’t be sure, but what she could see that some of them were children, and they where terrified of the beast.

Baring it’s teeth, it then launched at the group, and the mirror quickly became stained with blood before disappearing completely

“….”

So much for not being scared of anything.

Poke wasn’t sure how long she stood there, but by the time she remember where she was, the others had already passed through the mirror.

He caught Demi as he was on his way down, supporting him with his own shaky weight. Obviously, despite the fact that Faint felt like s**t, Demi was far worse off. “You’re worse than a newborn. You’re a puppy,” he teased playfully, tugging his tail out of Demi’s grip with a half-hearted snarl. He gave a fake dry heave over the boil and ruffled his hair, being a typical guy and forgetting his surroundings.

At least, he forgot his surroundings until a ghost boil collapsed against the wall crying. He turned and watched him, not because he thought the kid was embarrassing himself, but because he wanted to see If he was okay. He had no idea who this guy was but Faint had been treated with an amount of respect here, so he figured he ought to return the favor. When the boil got up, Faint bowed his head in greeting and turned his body to invite the boil to the group. “Faint,” he responded, “And don’t worry about it. We all got shook up.”

His knees felt shaky with all this movement and supporting. But, on the brighter side of the pumpkin, he’d probably be sleeping really well tonight. In response to Vero, he just looked at the boy and shook his head. He didn't know if he was glad to know his weakness, or horrified that he had such a huge one.

[ The Staircase ]
Having passed the mirror, Van didn't hesitate. He had been one of the last ones to go through it. Was that the zombie he had seen, up ahead? Jack's sake, if he was there and Van was still all the way back here, maybe he truly was slow. Cervantes bounded ahead, skidding to a halt right in front of the zombie. He grinned at him, tail whipping back and forth.

It was true, Van was a little uncomfortable around the rotting thing, but at the same time... he felt like he would see worse. Like his own fears, for example. Cervantes had been forced to face the inevitable knowledge that for one reason or another, his father and his pack had left him behind, with no real way to find them. But he also knew he wouldn't give up. Why would he?

Then it hit him: his new rotting acquaintance didn't smell very good at all. The flowery smell of the haunted house was masking it a little, but Van's nose was so sensitive that it picked up any trace. He would try his best to be normal, despite the nausea that had set over him since entering the haunted house.

Just hearing the dreaded P word made Damien's hair stand on end. It was like someone set off a bomb in his head as he pouted pitifully at the Were tiger. "I'm not a puppy." he insisted to Faint, swiping a paw halfheartedly at the boil's chest. He knew it was said only as a joke and well, it was Faint, he could let it slide.

As they tried to return back into normalcy, the ghost boil's crying was a grin reminder to the hound that he still couldn't remember what he saw. Ignorance was not always bliss he mused, as he turned to study him. It was a painful sight to see but if it weren't for faint, he guessed he'd be just the same, or still unconscious. And good deeds should always be payed forward in his mind. After Faint made his introductions, he slid out from behind him and gave a wave. "Damien, and yeah, no worries, that mirror wasn't exactly fun for anyone I believe." he said as a follow up to Faint's comment.

Hearing the quite mutterings of Vero left a pang in Demi's chest, It just didn't feel right to expose the visitors to such things. Sure he would have to admit that he didn't expect to get thrust into a similar situation like this on his first day here, but he was a student then and should have been mentally prepared. He still went over to pat the boil's hooded visage lightly. "What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger." he whispered to the boil. "And if it does, there's always the afterlife for us." he said jokingly, forgetting that Vero was already a spirit.

( Hallway )

Dark-furred ears flicked subtly as her stroking of his hair resumed...if Merry was petting him, then all was returned to right in the world. Shuddering once more, as though to shake the fearsome illusions from settling about him, the Fae-hound leaned up to bump the underside of the chimera ghoul's chin with his head affectionately, just a light tap, a wee, dependent nuzzle. His friend's doting demeanor was quite unlike anything that Than received at home, and he was currently basking in it, leeching it in a rather sponge-like fashion.

"Mebbe..." He paused, shifting so that she could get up, "Iffen we keep movinglike then the bad-glass won't chase us, Merry-Merry..." It had vanished from sight now, but Thanatos didn't trust anything that bore that level of malevolence. It could come back to er...haunt them, for lack of a better term to describe current circumstance. 8[ They really should have put a better warning on the front door. "Terribles, terribles things within..." He muttered, fingers once more taking a moment to tangle themselves in the boil's voluminous sleeves.

That was about the time that he heard a second voice, this one also familiar, and as his female companion answered his query, Than vaguely remembered that his ears had caught the hasty call of the pup's own name. Oh! Spinning around, still on the floor, in a whirlwind of dust and glitter, the tiny monster put both hands on the ground, hourglass eye lighting up with a rather excited, happy noise. He hadn't gotten to talk much with this boil before, but they'd since exchanged a serious of squee-mails! He seemed very nice, and Aksaja too, was someone that Thanatos had dubbed a friend! To have him here, perhaps the haunted house wasn't all bad if he'd found both the dragon AND Merry! *V* <3

"'Sajaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa~!" He chirped, leaning forward from his position to wrap arms around the dragon's leg. "It was a terribles mean-mirror thing, a-and it was PICKING ON THAAAAAAAN!" For a moment, his lower lip quivered, but he regained himself, pads of his fingers still seeking purchase in the dark-haired male's pant leg. "Than has been good." He murmured, something almost sulky in the tone. He didn't deserve to be punished by a dumb house, not when he was trying so hard!

"Butbutbut!" There was a soft chortle of hardly contained glee, "ThanThan is VERY glad to have Aksaja herelike too! 'Saja and the Merry-bird, Merry-bird, does know Aksaja noyesmaybe?" His introductions were hardly skillful, but they would at the very least serve their purpose.

More people seemed to be appearing, having passed the mirror. LW had moved further down the hallway in order to avoid possibly getting run into as pale faces kept passing through. Her arms were wrapped across her middle, tail curled along her legs. She hated having such memories surface. Especially when all she wanted to see now were those familiar faces. Any of them. Which she wasn't seeing and it made something in her tighten.

The sight of Demi and Faint eased her tortured mind a little. Familiar faces. Not the ones she wanted to see. But they were enough to allow LW to take a deep breath (and not choke on glitter) to ease her anxiety. "Y-You two still hangin' in there?" Cursed haunted house! With it's pink walls. And glitter. And-

A very familiar face reappeared and the she-wolf moved from her spot before her mind fully clicked. She didn't jump and cling like before, but walked over to the gryphon. He didn't look any better than she did. But he was here. And that was enough to settle her mind to tolerable levels. She smiled up at Ren, bumping his shoulder with hers. "So." Her voice was a little shaky and soft. "Think we can show this haunted house we're tough?" She wouldn't ask what he'd seen. There was no point in asking. They both had seen what they feared. End of story. Now they could show this jackdamned haunted house that best friends were tough cookies. Although LW would much prefer the cookie right now.
