"In doing that I'd be helping the guild Queen and Matasoga, so of course I will," Kromli said with a crooked smile. "Oh, well this is a bit of a harder, physical lesson that I had planned today, so let's go with something a little less physical," he said, while walking behind the rack of stuffed dummies and blunt, wooden training swords. He reappeared dragging out a chest with a leather folded case atop it. When he reached her, he said "I was saving this for later on, but it'll be fine to try now, instead. It doesn't build upon sneak attacks." He picked up the folded case and handed it to her, saying "These are lock-picks and other devices designed for disarming traps... But that can wait for another day. They're collectively referred to as 'thieves tools' and very necessary for the sorts of tasks that we do. Today we'll just be using the tools in the first fold." "I remember sometime ago I gave you a rather thin book that had the basis of lock-picking. In this chest, you will find a collection of locks on dowels... But the first thing is to open the chest... But of course there are no keys with this sort of training," he said with a smile, handing her a folded sheet. "This is a cheat sheet," he said, "Or a diagram of the lock. Since it's your first time at this, I think that you should have such a thing, but see if you can manage it without that. If you've read that book, you'll know the basics, and the lock is really cheap and quite simple." He took a step back to give her space to work.

"Yay! I'm so happy to hear that!" Shanderaa said excitedly. Having a plan in place that she wouldn't be alone in executing was a massive relief. Now, maybe, she could actually focus without breaking down into an anxiety-ridden mess. Pushing her worries about Matasoga to the backburner for now, she readied herself for the day's lesson.
She was very grateful that combat training could be postponed without going into an incredibly awkward explanation as to why. She was still very... sore from her last encounter with master, and lock picking sounded like something that wouldn't put additional stress on her injuries. She had already read all about the basics AND had a cheat guide of sorts should she need it, so how difficult could it possibly be?
"Right," she said, taking the sheet and looking it over before setting it to her side. "Here I go!"

"Okay... almost... I got it... I got it..."
No click.
"...I don't got it. Rrrgh, okay, trying again..."
(Rolling again. Dammit, dice!)

Nothing.
"Fffff... the hell?! I thought I had done better that time! Ughh... okay. Again..."

Kromli urged, "Why not just take a brief peek at the diagram? This is your first try, after all."

"Okaaaay... guess I do need it, after all..." Shanderaa looked to the diagram, then to the lock, then back to the sheet. She propped it up against the chest and set back to work.
"Hmm... Okay! This time I've got it for sure!"

Shanderaa fiddled with the lock, replicating the instructions as best she could. Ugh, why wasn't this working? The book had made it sound so simple! This lock was never going t--
Click.
"... I GOT IT! Finally! Yaaaay!!" she cheered.

"Good job!" Kromli cheered. "Inside, you'll find locks of dowel rods. Take them home and in a week or so, during your next training session, we'll see how many you were able to open."

"Eheh, thanks!" Shanderaa looked down into the chest. Dowel rods. ... Not the best treasure she had ever pulled from a chest, but far from the worst.
"Okay. Well. I'll do my best. Oh, and uh... ... thanks. For listening, I mean."

He gave another crooked smile and said that it was never a problem. "Oh, uh, did you... Wanna do that thing... Now?" he asked, his trepidation obvious.

"Uh. Hmm..." She thought a moment. So soon? Was now really a good time?
"I dunno about you, but... I definitely need some time to mentally prepare for this. As much as I want to address this as soon as possible... gotta have the right mindset, y'know? So. Next time, 'kay? We regroup, then STRIKE!" she said with an overly enthusiastic hand gesture.

"Right," Kromli said, secretly dreading it. He hoped that he'd be ready when the time came. "Have a good night," he said, before getting to the task of packing things away in a bag of holding.

"And you as well! Good night! And thanks again! You're amazing, y'know!" She gathered up her items, waved goodbye for now, and prepared to return to her room. In little over a week... everything will be okay. She smiled at the thought. For the first time in a long while, tonight's sleep would be peaceful.
