I gave some money to someone who was homeless and now I'm left wondering if I did the right thing.
I've been cynical for too long, so when I saw this guy down on his luck, I decided it was time for altruism. I didn't give him that much (about $2.50) but it was all I could spare. He was grateful and it felt good, but I'm left wondering if it really was right.
Anybody remember a segment of KotOR 2 when Kriea chews you out for giving to somebody on Nar Shaddaa? What she was saying is that by giving somebody something they have not earned, it robs them of the experience needed to do things for themselves and it also makes them a target for others who suffer.
I know it comes from a fictional character, but it still gets me thinking. I'm left hoping he doesn't get mugged by some other homeless person.

Really, are we saving the planet or are we trying to save ourselves?
The Earth really isn't in any danger...all we're doing is preventing it from becoming inhospitable to most current sentient life, but the Earth will remain long after we are dust and it will regenerate and new forms of life will form. That what Earth does.

But we should at least admit that we're trying to postpone our extinction and then do what we can to do so. That way, if we go out, at least we'd have gone out trying.
