She blinked, so busy putting away groceries that she hadn't noticed anyone nearby. Smiling under her mask she nodded to Kiro and finished putting away the meats, folding the paper bag and putting it with the rest.
"Sorry I didn' notith you," she replied, her voice sounding like she was talking through her nose. Damn congestion. Damn it all to hell. At least she didn't have the flu during which any attempts at using powers resulted in catastrophe. "Yeth, that's me." Looking back at her soup she felt a little badly she hadn't made more. "Thoup?"

"Umm... no, thank you." He tried to decline politely, but realised he may have sounded as he felt. Not really wanting to be contaminated.
He stood where he was for a few moments before figuring he could risk taking a few steps closer, still hugging his book - by now with a little less ferocity.
Then he smiled a little, the action sympathetic. Though perhaps a little confused, it was too warm surely? "A cold?" He brushed some blonde bangs behind an ear absently. Must be a summer cold...

"Yeah, were I work ith cold." She sniffled a little and looked at him apologetically. Sy was well aware of how terrible and she looked and sounded to people and somehow doubted that the blonde knew what she was wearing over her face. Or maybe she was just being paranoid, like she was prone to do. She didn't want to offend anyone at any cost, really.
"Don' worry, thith will prote't you from it." She said with a tiny smile, and then started to stir her soup in the pot slowly. The warmth of the island made her feel better than the cold of Kokoro, and she knew that after having some soup she'd feel almost cured... until tomorrow.

"You work somewhere else?"
This thought fascinated the feline-youth, not sure how you could live in a place with one climate and work in a place with a completely different one. Perhaps it was a childish curiosity, the youth wasn't really sure...
Curious despite himself, he queried, "Whereabouts?"

"Yeth," she replied, absently rubbing her nose under the mask while she tried to think of how to describe it. With her other hand she kept stirring the soup, although she wasn't paying attention to it much. "Ith no' too cold, but too cool for shorth." It must be hard to understand her she realized, but there was little she could do about it.
And above all things, she refused to take some blasted cold medicine and feel like she was dancing on cloud nine.

Frowning a little, Kiro tried hard to understand what she was saying. Between the mask and her congestion, it was proving rather difficult. He felt his ears lean back a little as his confusion showed.
"'Shorth'?" he murmured, not wanting to seem rude. "I'm not sure what you mean..."

"You know... shorth. Not panth... shorth." At a lack for being able to pluralize or pronounce most words clearly she looked down at her skirt and then tried to pull at the pleats and hold it in the center to look like shorts. Of course, it looked more ridiculous than anything, and it made her glad that no one else was around for this slightly embarassing situation.

'Panth'? 'Shorth'? All this was only succeeding in getting Kiro more and more confused, as probably showed on his face. He continued frowning as Sy used her skirt to indicate her point. Then it suddenly dawned on him.
"Shorts!" he exclaimed, unusually loudly for him, making him blush a little as he did it. But he continued speaking with a slight smile. "It makes so much sense now." He paused. "So, how come you work somewhere like that? Isn't it kind of far away?"

Far away? Perhaps, but to her it wasn't really quite so bad... which made her a little sad. There was something exciting about being able to go new places and she had been nearly everywhere she wanted to. "I wath born the'e." Shrugging, she took her pot off the stove, realizing that he had no idea of her two meddlesome powers.
"I can go plathes with mah mindeh." She sniffled a little and poured the soup into a bowl and fetched a spoon. u_u Crap. She'd have to take off her mask to eat... obviously, she hadn't thought this out well.

It was all so confusing. Professor Ataro had warned Kiro things might seem a little strange when he came here - and so far they had proven to be just so. There was the strange creature he had seen only the other day, which he could only assume to be one of the 'things he couldn't pronounce'. Then there was this lady with 'travelling mind powers'.
Seeing that she was finished making her soup, he moved towards one of the small tables and pulled up a chair, waiting for her to do the same, laying his book down gently.
"Places with your mind?"

She nodded faintly and set down her bowl and soup before sitting down. Hoping he wouldn't mind too terrible she took off her mask and held her head over the soup bowl, holding back her hair, and letting the steam creep up her sinuses. Almost instantly she felt better.
"I can show you," she said quietly, sniffling once, and trying to be careful to pronounce her words more correctly. The momentary lapse in understanding had made her try a bit harder now.

Absently the boy folded his arms across his book, leaning on the table while still looking up at Sy as she took the mask off. His ears creeped back a little, in confused curiosity.
"Show me how?"

She could see nothing short of a demonstration would make him understand so she closed her eyes, trying to concentrate on something other than her sore nose and throbbing headache. After a moment of concentration she disappeared entirely and reappeared in another seat at the table. Calmly she moved the bowl of soup over.
"Somethin' like tha',"she replied loosely as she took a spoonful of soup and let it soothe her throat. Ahhh. It wasn't even that great tasting, but damn it felt good.

Trying to be polite about something like that clearly wasn't going to work - he was going to confuse himself too much. So instead he opted for shock, his large blue eyes widening a little more in surprise.
"H-how did you...?"
He rubbed at his eyes with a fist, reopening them to find she was still where he thought she was. Perhaps he finally did need glasses...
"How did you do that?"

"Concentra-shion?" She sniffled again and sipped at her soup, finding it incredible tasty despite its bland flavor. It was hard for her to describe something she seemed to be able to do since she was little... like asking a sorcerer how he did magic. She just didn't have much of an explanation.
"I's a power I wa' born with." That was always an easy answer out, really. It was harder to question something someone said they could do as a baby... but as a child she could only manage tiny distances. It took practice to go farther.
