Coline took a step back in surprise upon the Captain's sudden gesture. It wasn't something she was expecting. Trying to make sense of what just happened, she remembered; didn't he say before that bowing was a sign of respect in his culture?
"Cruel?" she echoed, eyes softened as they fixed upon the drow's icy locks. "But you're the kindest person I've had the pleasure of meeting..."
She spoke no lies.

Once he had Lorika over the top of the small ledge, not too impressive of a feat, he scooted back to give her breathing room. He folded his arms on top of his knees and rested his chin on his forearms, watching her, waiting for her to say something. It seemed natural that she would chide him for leaving the temple. But when the words never came, his expression clouded over, until his features smoothed out once more.
He fished about in his skull for the words he needed, and eventually settled on what he felt had to be said. Stubbornness setting in, he spoke evenly and with care, only pausing here and there as he stumbled around words, "I will disappoint them, if I go back. They are scattered and only I was the lighthouse in the storm, in a war that is already over. They are expecting miracles, and for things to return to normal, when I do not remember what normal was. I do not think I can live up to your expectations."

All good is hard, and all evil is easy. Dying, losing... The Captain straightened, eyeing her sceptically.
"Hmmm..."
Then, as if he had suddenly remembered why they were there, he turned his head sharply, sniffing. "This food smells absolutely divine. Let us head inside."
It was a poor excuse to escape the task of responding to her compliment, but certainly not an unwelcome one. He knew Coline was starving. The dining hall was full of chatter and people. There were no set places for instructors, but two acolytes saw him striding to the table and quickly shifted themselves to make way. He nodded to them gratefully, and then motioned for Coline to sit down first on the bench. The food which was to be chosen from was arranged on a very clever enchantment which brought the food up and down the center of the table in a cylindrical conveyor; how long had it taken for Panda to set that up? But the more impressive display was the plates and cutlery which appeared when one sat down at the table. Summoning charms were obviously not just for lazy purposes.
"It seems we are able to pick and choose what we like from this feast." This was unusual for the Order, where usually a single dish was prepared in a quantity great enough for all the members. ...Cheating and mediocrity are easy. Stay away from easy.

Evelyn stood, the bird still on her finger, and began speaking to it. "So, bluebird one-note spelled L-I-T-E, let's go find the Overseer. Will you come with me?"
The bird chirped, which she took as an affirmative, and moved the bird to her shoulder. She began running along, ignoring her ankle, and singing out for the Overseer.

Be good... Lorika made no immediate reply, except to look away from him. Her heart had sunk a little. So it was her fault after all... perhaps by attempting to service him as she once had, she'd pressed home the fact that he had to be something he didn't feel like being. A very important something for that matter. She thought back to her attempt at massaging his feet, and felt disgusted with herself.
"I haven't come to ask you to return," she whispered, eyes cast downwards again "Well, I mean, I did, of course. I hoped you would return. But it's not because I expect you to fulfill some important role. It's because you mean so much to me... and to everyone else."
She sighed, shifting around to face him properly. "I can swear to you on my life that I and the others expect nothing from you. Your presence is not vital. It is simply a comfort - a compass." Her voice suddenly faded, almost out of existence. "Everyone adores you, my Overseer."
...and you will be lonesome.

Angelique continued her aimless walking, until she saw Evie, not to far away... talking to a bird. Angelique tilted her head curiously--Evie could talk to birds...? No she wasn't talking... she was singing! And she had a very pretty voice too. Angelique grinned as she made her way to Evie, being careful not to startle her or the bird, but making her footsteps quite obvious so she could know she was near..
"That's really pretty," she said in a low voice.

Evelyn turned at the sound of the voice, the bird ruffling slightly at the sudden movement, making its feather brush her neck, tickling her. Evelyn smiled at what she saw. "Kaos! Oh, hello! Thank you so much!" She couldn't stop smiling at her friend until the bird pecked at her ear, reminding her of its presence. She flinched slightly at the interaction, and made a mental note not to forget Lite.
"Kaos, before he kills me, I would like to introduce you to Lite." Evelyn made a movement to the bird, helping it to climb onto her finger and reached it out to Kaos. "Yes, I might be crazy for liking this bird."

Angelique smiled. "You're welcome!" she exclaimed, with a happy tone. She laughed a bit as the bird requested for her attention. "Nice to meet you, Lite!" she said, with a small giggle. "No I don't think you're crazy... birds are awesome... except Sea gulls. Sea gulls are mean, mean birds...." she said, frowning.

Her face froze as he observed her, fearing what implications her words may have given. Thinking back she was probably out of line, but seeing the Captain with his head so low, muttering an unnecessary apology... she felt it needed to be said.
It was the truth, after all.
Coline breathed a silent sigh of relief as the drow turned away and invited her into the dining hall. She followed him to the table and upon the Captain's gesture sat herself down, jumping at the sudden appearance of a plate and other tableware. Well... that was new.
Looking up at the array of food, which was apparently enchanted as well, she furrowed her brow. "There are so many..." she muttered mindlessly. Coline had convinced herself that she would make sure to try each and every dish there was had this been the case, to show appreciation for the acolytes' hard work, but with this wide variety... she might not be able to keep that promise.
((LMAO!! Gino still has a glowing wang! Bring on the ladies. B} ))
