Saki didn't fully understand that but she thought about it. She wasn't sure how old Shiara was neither so that sort of complicated things but she was sure Shiara was older than any child yet.
"Well... you'd live here," Saki replied, "Live here and get better and then after that what you want to do is up to you. Maybe you'd like to learn something."

Shiara's brow furrowed slightly. "Learn?" she asked. "What kinds of things?"
She had never had any sort of education beyond the very basics - how to count, a few runes ... but being taken so young and spending her entire life in slavery, she had never learned even the most common things ... and didn't even really know about it.

"Like... like...." Saki thought about it for a moment, "How to read and write, so you can read all sorts of stories and write them too! Or.. or maybe learn how to make something, people here can make all sorts of things, or maybe how to draw or uhm...."
She thought about it, she didn't know a lot of things one could learn to be honest so she was just grasping at straws.

Shiara stared at Saki. "I can do all of that?" she asked, sitting up partially. "Really? I can learn those things here?"
She had no idea ... had never dreamed of ever learning so much ...

"Of course," Saki replied, "All you have to do is ask."
She was pretty sure that Shiara was going to be here for a long while (though she didn't know it was probably going to be forever). Though Saki knew it was possible.
"Everyone gets to learn a lot of things here."

Shiara stared at Saki a bit longer, and then a trace of a smile played about the corners of her lips and she lay down again, her head on her elbow, and kept stroking Saki gently.
"I think I would like that," she said softly. "Will you be here to help me?"
She felt no fear of Saki, not now that she was getting used to her, but she knew that it would be a long time before she got over her fear of people, no matter how kind or gentle they were.

"Of course!" Saki replied, "I like watching people learn I use to watch Arwen learn all the time."
Except horse backriding because it dealt with horses but Saki was allowed almost anywhere and she was sure in this case they would really allow her anywhere.

Shiara kept petting Saki gently. "Arwen?" she asked softly, her voice growing softer as she grew more tired. "Who is she?"
She yawned slightly and closed her eyes, though she didn't stop petting Saki.

"She's Haradhel's daughter, she grew up here, this was her room but she fell in love and got married and now has a kiddy of her own. I want to see her daughter, but they live too far away."
Saki wished she could see Arwen's daughter, but that wasn't likely to happen any time soon.

"Haradhel's daughter," Shiara murmured softly. "That means ... Ahren's sister, yes?"
She shifted a bit closer to Saki, so close she could almost feel the kitty's fur against her face, and kept stroking her.
"Tell me ... about Ahren?" she requested in a soft voice.

"Hmm..... he's really nice, gives good pets and he's really really serious about his work. He's always worried about all of the kids that come in and the ones of course everyone knows they haven't found."
Saki admitted this, she wasn't unknowing after all what her purpose in life was as far as her part in helping the children.

Shiara frowned softly. "There are ... a lot of children up there," she murmured. "So many ... so very many ..."
She shuddered involuntarily, remembering once again the time that she had spent up there. She hoped, prayed, that no child had been forced to take her place ...

"It'll be alright," Saki snuggled close and lightly licked Shiara's cheek, "Things will change."
She was sure it would, everyone here was so passionate about the children that they would do what they could to change what they could. Saki was sure of it.

Shiara smiled softly as Saki licked her cheek, and her hand fell still on Saki's back, half hugging the cat to her face. Her breathing evened out, her eyes closed gently. She was asleep.
As the weeks passed, the snows deepened as winter hit the valley full force. It made training for Rhea and Lin much harder, but on the other hand, throwing them off balance like that made them use their wings more to keep their balance, which in turn strengthened them both - even though Rhea's wings were magical and didn't require such strengthening.
Still, things had settled into a routine once more now that the big scare was over with, and Rhea enjoyed her training sessions with Lin ... and Whisper would readily admit that she enjoyed it too, if only because it was amusing to watch.

Lin had forgotten how much winter really hit the Borderlands until it really hit. The amount of snow was kind of frightening in a way, except she took it in stride, even took time out to make a snowman once or twice.
Training was going over smoothly and there were times she forgot she had wings, it had become nature to her, in which she was beginning to understand why her mother didn't like her human form. It made her feel a bit naked, but darn if it wasn't easier to dress this way.
Lin was at the moment out in the snow trying her hand at archery once more. It was something not hard to take up, half of the clans used it as a hobby, or for spirit fighting depending on who you were. Except Lin found she had to push her wings back until they were hanging loosing behind her in order to fire.
Actually she was doing this because she was putting off flying lessons, Lin actually didn't like flying all that much, or rather she didn't like landing.
