Kaito grinned cattily, his tail waving about shrewdly.

Aranel laughed. "I did, at that." He peered forward again. "I'm sorry, Lin, not yet," he said apologetically. "Though ... I have a suspicion. Nothing bad, but just an idea. Still, I'd rather wait and see than say anything and be wrong."

"It doesn't seem to be moving," Earendil commented. "At least, it's not getting closer any faster than we're approaching it."

Lin blinked and looked back as if trying to make her eyes see as far as everyone else. Not that it would work, but she was trying. She really hoped that they could see what it was soon, since Aranel said it wasn't bad it just made her more curious.

"True, but I want to know what it is."

By the end of an hour, the shadow was close enough that even Kaito and Lin could see it - though even the elves still couldn't tell what it might be. It was however slightly distinguishable in the fact that instead of it being just one shadow, there were several - some big, some small, some moving, and some still.

"Whatever they are," Earendil murmured, "they're right on the river ... so I suppose we'll see by the end of the day."

Aranel nodded. "Aye, that's a good goal for the day," he agreed. "From there we should be able to reach Namu Ngulu by tomorrow night."

Deciding that if she didn't get her mind off the shadows she was going to go crazy from curiousity Lin instead asked, "What is Namu Ngulu like do you know?"

Still she kept her eyes on the shadows as it were, maybe they were just large plants she thought, but what if they were people? Who knew... maybe they were some creatures who were using the river for a drink.

Aranel, the only one of them all that had ever been there, took it upon himself to answer Lin's question.

"Namu Ngulu is right at the base of Phoenix Falls," he replied, "and they've made great use of their water supply. Other than the plantation where Gion and Nadya live, it's the only place in the elven Southland where crops are grown. Not much, as a rule, but still, some crops."

"Ah...." Lin murmured, "Well that makes sense. It would be interesting to see the falls. I've never seen a real waterfall."

The ones meant for the gardens did not count, they were just there for circulation and to be pretty. Mainly for the mers amusement, sure there was the large falls on the grounds, but it was like the doorway to where the mers slept and kept house. What little of a house they had. Not the real thing.

"It's too bad we couldn't stop at Rainbow Falls," Kaito murmured wistfully. "Maybe sometime in the future or something."

"Phoenix falls is the largest waterfall in the entire Four Lands, other than Rainbow Falls," Aranel nodded. "Interesting, when you thing about the fact that both of them are located in a desert." He chuckled.

That was a surprise to hear, she wouldn't have thought a desert would have had the largest waterfall ever.

"No.. you wouldn't have," Lin murmured thoughtfully, "I didn't know that, I only know it by name because people mention it in passing quite a bit."

She was sure there were a few fighters from Haven that had settled there at one point.

Earendil looked at Lin in surprise. "Really?" he asked curiously. "What do they say about it?"

Even places mentioned just in passing could give lots of information, such as could be divined from the topic of the conversation that it was mentioned in.

"Not much, it's just some of the Haven fighters came from Phoenix Falls, I think... they had retired there before deciding to come to Haven."

She tried to recall which fighters since it had been a while since she had asked probably when she was really little.

"I think Sir Leith was one of them," she murmured....

Of course the one thing that always stood out to her was the way he talked.

Earendil broke into a grin. "Sir Leith?" he repeated eagerly. "And Sir Boudwin? Was that the other one?" He laughed. "They were at the palace when I was young! He taught me about the unicorns ... I always wondered what happened to the two of them."

Tinuviel smiled at her brother. "I suppose now we know," she murmured.

Lin nodded that was the other knight who had come to live at Haven. Both of them whom even now she had trouble understanding on occasion.

"Yes, both of them are now in Haven, Sir Leith helps in training the horses, in which is very lucky."

She had heard his opinion on horses both direct and second hand, it was amazing he trained horses at all considering he didn't think very highly of the creatures.

"He would let me watch him, and answer my questions..."

Earendil chuckled. "He's working with horses now, then ... who would have ever thought that possible?"

Even Tinuviel was amused. "I thought he hated horses."

"No," Earendil grinned. "Just in comparison to his love for unicorns. Now imagine if they would get unicorns at the ranch, that would be a sight to see. And if there's one man who could make it happen, it's Sir Leith."

"Really now? It's hard to tell at times," Lin told Earendil dryly, "He still doesn't have many good things to say about them. The closest thing to a compliment towards them was when he said Haven's horses were the best he's seen."

Which she heard was the reason why he was willing to work with them in the first place. That part she didn't know if it was true or not.

"He doesn't think highly of them, but he'll work with them."

Earendil grinned down at Lin. "Well, I'm impressed," he said honestly. "I would never have expected it of him. I've never heard him say a positive word about horses either, so ..."

"Hey," Kaito interrupted, blinking and looking ahead again. "I think ... I can almost make out the shadows ..." He squinted a bit and shaded himself with his wings. "It looks like ... people ... and ... houses or something ..."

"They have horses," Aranel murmured, looking as well now. "But those aren't houses ... I was right." He grinned.

Kaito looked up at him. "Gypsies?"

The look on Aranel's face said that he had no idea what those were, but he shook his head and replied, "Rovers."
