Celebor smiled warmly. "With Grandma in the condition she is, I'm sure Donovan would be anxious to get back to her as soon as he could," he said gently. "It's all right. We'll have plenty of opportunities for him to visit again."
Niyana squeezed Celebor's hand. "I'm going to help Ulani finish up with dinner," she murmured. "You'd best find Ruran."
Celebor nodded. "I'll see you in a bit then," he agreed, and he leaned over and kissed Niyana gently on the cheek, then turned to face the others again. "Anyone care to join me?" he asked.

"I'll go," Ryu offered after a moment of silence.
After all he hadn't met Ruran yet, though it seemed like his sister wasn't too eager to meet him, which was unusual Ryu noted.
"Naida and I will stay here," Feng replied, "And keep the kids company."
"Mi...." Miyu shook her head trying not to play with anything.

Celebor smiled with relief. "Thank you," he said softly to his uncle. "I'm very grateful for your help." And he started towards the door.
Suddenly Arahad appeared in the doorway, looking as bright and cheery as ever.
"Miyu!" he called out cheerfully. "Mama sent me looking for you. Are you coming back to the ranch for dinner? Or staying here?"

"Oh!" Miyu blinked.
She had completely forgotten with everything that happened. Looking over her shoulder she thought about it, well Ulani and Ulrich she doubted had expected more people right.
"I... think I will go back to the ranch for dinner."

Arahad nodded. "I'll walk you back then. Aragost is still hanging around here, too, so it will be three of us going back." He smiled warmly. He knew how much Miyu liked to spend time with Aragost, how comfortable she was with him.

Miyu smiled back, it was so strange when she thought about it, Aragost was with her the whole time, but he was so quiet at times it was easy to forget, especially when one was trying to help little ones fit in.
"Thank you," she replied softly.
Meanwhile Ryu followed Celebor, all the while smiling at the exchange, it seemed Miyu had been up to a lot, and probably without panicking.
"We'll see you later then Miyu."

As the days passed, the children grew more accustomed to life in the Borderlands, and the people that they would be living with from now on. Plans began for Celebor and Niyana's new house, and eventually Celebor, Ulrich, and now and again, Adonijah went out to look for trees for lumber.
One morning found Ruran sitting on the riverbank, dripping wet and looking ... very ... very thoughtful.

Wherever there was water there were mers, it was just a fact of life, and the fact the river was their temporary home. So it was no surprise that the mer trio were walking along the river bank. It was still early enough where they didn't need to head to Aliya's quite yet.
"Ruran?" Feng tilted her head surprised that he was there, actually she was more surprised he was soaking wet unless he had a thing for water like his father.

Ruran glared at the three of them as they approached him - or at least he tried, thought he ended up looking more like a lost puppy than anything else.
"What?" he growled at them. He just wanted to be left alone, was that too much to ask?

"Are you alright?" Feng asked squatting down so she was more at Ruran's height.
Well she was sure at the very least he was uncomfortable, judging by his wet state and while mers didn't feel cold, she wasn't sure about other Seconds.

"Of course I'm all right," Ruran snapped. "What are you talking about?"
He snarled angrily across the river, muttering about ways to get back at him. He would show him who was strong and who wasn't.
He wasn't cold, the summer day was hot; but at the same time he wasn't comfortable either. He simply wasn't noticing this at the moment. He was too intent on getting back at the person who had done this to him.

"You're wet," Ryu replied dryly, "And while we don't care if you're wet, you're not a mer and wet clothes can't be comfortable.'
He looked down at the little boy and wondered why they should bother, but the question of how Ruran came to be like that came to his mind.

Ruran scowled. "So what, you think I should just take them off and parade around naked or something? Forget it."
This was really starting to turn into a bad day for him. First a soaking, and now being pestered. What did a guy have to do to be left alone?

"You're silly," Naida giggled, "Of course not! You should go home and get changed into dry clothes, because Mommy says that wet clothes can make you sick unless you're a mer."
Well or an elf, but not a Second elf. At least as far as anyone knew elven Seconds did not have the same abilities as the elves here, but that was only from observation from the fact Celebor and Idhril could get cold.
"Come on Ruran," Feng held out a hand, "Why don't we head back to Ulani and Ulrich's place to get you into something dry. Besides you look awfully miserable like that."

Ruran slapped Feng's hand away. "I have no home!" he snapped. "I never have and I never will! My father and that woman might make us a house here, but it will never be home! Not to any of us!"
Half bloods had no place to call their own. They didn't belong with either of the races they came from: elves or humans.
