Again, Sukotto switched back to thinking about his fight with Maya and Baki. After having avoided Maya's furious assault and successfully ending up behind the vulnerable Tategami, Sukotto had instinctively formed five of the six seals for his trademark technique at the time, the Phoenix Flower jutsu. Since they had been engaged in a taijutsu match, he hadn't used any defensive ninjutsu, and he had only just activated his Sharingan, Sukotto had plenty of chakra to use in conjunction with the technique. In fact, he had more than enough to use the technique at its full strength, a level of power that he was sure could have taken out nearly any shinobi within his age group, and without a ridiculous amount of endurance and constitution. Thankfully for Maya and himself, as he would have paid for hurting the girl by the hand of Shimagakure, Sukotto held off on the final seal and instead reached out to Maya with one of his hands and spoke a few calmed words in an attempt to persuade her out of the raged state that she had entered. Sukotto had a lot to work with, as Baki was knocked out and while not seriously injured, he knew that he'd be able to make Maya believe that the lion was in danger.

The fact that Sukotto's emotions had called upon the power of the Sharingan and that he had eventually been able to take hold of these emotions to dissolve the situation in the most peaceful way possible was exactly what he wanted to teach his squad mates about. If he hadn't been provoked into activating his Sharingan when Maya hungrily glanced at Senritsu, then Sukotto probably would have been hit by her weapon and most likely injured, which would have directly affected his ability to train for the chuunin exams, which were only a couple of short years away from that point. Thankfully, the emotions had been used in a positive way, and while they nearly drove Sukotto to really hurting Maya, he, at the last moment, was able to stop himself from doing so. With proper training, Sukotto believed, a shinobi could perfect this sort of technique and really use it in battles within missions. In fact, he believed that with training, these emotions could even be amplified a step further, allowing for a greater use of this tactic than Sukotto had ever imagined. It was possible that certain techniques would be unlocked depending on a shinobi's emotion, and Sukotto figured that if his squad was well trained in this sort of nontraditional way, then they'd be able to unlock said techniques and become more powerful than nearly any squad in the shinobi world, as these techniques, ones that truly developed from the soul, would be far more powerful than any that were merely researched and then invented.

"Heh. Don't worry, you will be returning that favor sooner or later.." Serena smiled smugly at her teammate as they were introduced to their next task. Seriously, this sounded tough. For them to actually land even a finger on Sukotto was a challenge. "Why me?" She stared at Shisei for a minute. He's obviously wasn't the polite type. "Meh..okay..you win." She glanced quickly at her opponent and then took a minute to think about how she was going to go about doing this.

The girl knew nothing about Sukotto's strategies, fighting techniques, and skills. All she could determine was that he wouldn't get seriously injured no matter what they did. He was too experienced for that to happen. Serena wanted to find out more. It wouldn't hurt to give a decent attempt at it. She rushed towards Sukotto spontaneously without thought and tried to aim for his lower body area with a kick.

The serpent youth was considering what to do when Serena finally stated she’d take the initiative. It surprised the boy a little, but within his brain he was relieved for that. Shisei did not know what to begin with against Sukotto. He did not have any shuriken at the moment to use as an initial test of how the boy would move. Nor did he like option of being damaged while considering his estimation on the chuunin’s attack and defending pattern. If he had a pattern. There wasn’t much to go on with the opponent. The only thing Shisei could consider at the moment was to do something out of his normal style. That may get some type of opening.

As Serena charged forward, the Orochi born waited till she was a few feet ahead before moving. Hopefully the senior ninja’s attention would be on her. The boy then darted off to the left. Perhaps at the youth’s side out of his line of sight would suffice. Then again this was still getting a feel for the older teen. As soon as Shisei’s body was to the side of Sukotto he dashed a few steps before using the front of his feet to propel his tiny frame into the air. He kept his head down and crossed both arms over his cranium to give it a little protection. While Serena was aiming low the Orochi youth was going to aim high. She of course did not know the serpent youth's plan. Nor did the Orochi mean to tell her. His brain and ego felt they could manage it without much communication. He'd just go with the flow and adapt to any openings. Not using coordination would not be expected after all. Nor would the next attack. A diving tackle at the side of the boy’s head would do some decent damage if he connected.

Sukotto smiled as Serena charged him head on. He was a bit surprised that the girl had rushed in with such haste, as he didn't figure her to be the type to do so. After spotting the weaknesses in Serena's assault, the Uchiha allowed himself a bit of time to spy on what Shisei was doing behind the scenes. It appeared that the Orochi youth was attempting somewhat of a flanking maneuver, but since the space was open and Sukotto had taken a defensive stance, it would be difficult to achieve such a tactic, though Sukotto was glad that the boy was using his head. Focusing back on Serena, the Uchiha slid his right foot to the side, perpendicular to her frontal assault, and then quickly allowed his other foot to follow the same path, causing the Raiken girl to fly right by him, contacting nothing besides the air within the space that Sukotto had once occupied. As his left foot followed the path of his right, the Uchiha moved it a bit more forward, which allowed the center of his body to shift towards Shisei, countering his attempt to flank the chuunin. Sukotto was happy to know that Serena had been confident enough to attack him head on, he had been a bit worried that the girl would be too reserved for her own good and she had proven him wrong. Fortunately for him, her attack had left her unable to rebound into a combination attack, which allowed Sukotto to completely concentrate on Shisei. The Orochi-born seemed to be attempting an aerial headbutt attack of some sort, which was a bit risky for an opening move. To teach the boy just what the word "risky" meant, Sukotto ducked the Orochi's attack and placed a palm into the boy's chest, which would cause him to hit the ground in an awkward way, dealing a bit of damage to the boy.

After moving past each of his squad member's opening moves, Sukotto repositioned himself in his defensive stance, angling his body in a more comfortable position, since it was likely that the pair wouldn't underestimate him again.
"Oh come now you two, I didn't say attack the bugs that are flying around my body, I said attack me!" The Uchiha smiled as he teased the two shinobi. He figured that Serena would take it as a mere joke, but that it would potentially cause Shisei to become a bit frustrated, which would challenge his tactical skill. This would be a perfect opportunity for their emotions as well as their attacks to work together to form into something that Sukotto wouldn't be able to avoid so easily.

((I don't want to give away the secret, but just in case you two don't know how to use teamwork rolls, it is in the In-Game Rules section of the Game System subforum. It can be found under the heading "Teamwork Rolls" on this link: http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=15669417

Basically, one of you starts a team attack by making a focus roll and a normal attack roll in the same post. Then the other person does the same in the next post. The second poster adds together their focus roll with the first poster's focus roll. They then add together their attack roll with the first poster's attack roll. If the combined focus roll is greater than the combined attack roll, then the attack rolls are combined and treated as one big, powerful, and barely avoidable attack!))

Though Serena's kick was on target, Sukotto, of course dodged it. The one thing she did not expect to see, though, was Shisei's immediate response with a dive towards the chuunin. "What?" The attack was too quick for her to consider whether or not that was a stupid or clever move. But since he missed and probably got injured after getting forcibly thrown into the ground, the Raiken decided it was stupid. "Haah." She looked back at Sukotto, who was pretty much having fun with this. Serena put her hand on her hip and flashed a smile at him, as if she were striking some kind of pose in reply, and then turned towards the direction in which Shisei had fallen.

"Here.." She held out her hand in order to help her teammate up, wondering if he would take it. Obviously, they were going to have to think of some kind of plan before commencing any sort of attack. Not that she really wanted to work with someone that had an attitude like the serpent, but the first attempt kind of proved that they needed to try something else. "So..what should we do?" Serena looked at Shisei with gleaming eyes and a smug smile. The boy was smart. She was going to see what he could come up with, since he was so arrogant and had so much confidence in his abilities.

Sukotto grinned at Serena as she struck a pose in response to his teasing. He was happy to see that she didn't consider the training a game, however, and immediately set to talking to Shisei as soon as their opening moves failed. She didn't go about it in a way that a typical person would, instead, the girl seemed to play on Shisei's personality. She wasn't doing this with her words, per say, but with the way that she carried and presented herself as she suggested that he come up with a plan that would utilize the two of them together in a unified and powerful assault against the chuunin. He had been a bit disappointed that the two of them had rushed in, even though Shisei had attempted a crude flaking move, he had still rushed in. However, this was to be expected, due mostly to the way that the academy taught the students, that is what the Uchiha believed anyway. Even though this was the case, Sukotto wouldn't rest until he felt that his squad was very, very capable of working together effectively. If this ended up being the case, then they would have a much easier time fighting opponents who were much more powerful than them on the individual level, perhaps even more powerful than himself.

It seemed as though Sukotto had indeed picked out a good squad for each other. He hoped that things would work out as well in practice as they had on paper and within his mind. Shisei was the more strategic of the two, a bit like Sukotto in a sense, but had at that point only created strategies for himself which would be fine in one on one battles, but nearly useless in missions, where the squad would be working together most of the time. Serena, on the other hand, seemed to have her own way of developing tactics. If one only looked on the surface, they would see a kind girl who stood up for herself on occasion. However, Sukotto didn't need his Sharingan to tell that the girl had much more to her than that. She was very analytical when it came to figuring out personalities and the ways to go about complimenting them so that the given person would be more likely to help her out. She had most likely come up with a strategy of her own for the two of them to approach Sukotto with, but instead she turned the decision over to Shisei, who would obviously be quite reluctant to do anything that she suggested until she had really proven herself to him, which was no easy task. The girl had a lot of smarts by going about teamwork in this way.

After thinking about his team for a little bit, Sukotto allowed himself to finish up thinking about the resulting battle against Maya and Baki. Thankfully, with the help of the commanding presence of his Sharingan no doubt, the Uchiha was able to persuade Maya that the safety of Baki was more important that rampaging around, even though Sukotto knew that the lion hadn't really been injured too badly. Thankfully, she seemed to silently agree and left the area, looking quite hurt by the whole situation. This part of the result was unfortunate, but it was the only way that Maya was going to learn to prepare herself for difficult situations when it came to fighting real enemies that didn't include a ban on jutsu. The Uchiha knew from personal experience that there were much more terrifying things that could happen to Baki than a neutralizing taijutsu kick to the back of the head. Countless numbers of ninjutsu were developed to tatter the bodies of their targets, and a large number of the mysterious genjutsu also existed, which were far worse, as one's mind was something so much closer to who they actually are than their body was. Sukotto only hoped that Maya learned to adapt to the situation, no matter what happened.

After concluding his thoughts that were directly related to the battle against Maya and Baki, Sukotto decided to try and see how he could possibly apply what he had learned from this to the teachings that he would share with his squad members. First, it was important to realize that anything could happen when locked in a battle, especially if it was a battle on a mission against an opponent whose abilities weren't completely known by anyone in the squad. Sukotto could spend a lifetime preparing for everything that they could think of, and some enemy with a unique and powerful jutsu could blow away all of their assumptions with a single hand seal or less. The only real preparations that the squad could do would be to make themselves stronger, and prepare to adapt to every situation that was thrown their way. If a squad member was downed, then the team would have to realize that they'd need to go about fighting in a different way, and learn from what happened to that team member instead of grieving over them. Unfortunately, this was the way of the shinobi and important and personal things such as grieving over a fallen comrade would have to wait until the battle was either won, or the team had managed to escape it.

Since he had pretty much wrapped up everything that he could have gained from thinking about his sparring match with Maya and Baki for the time being, Sukotto decided to finish up his analyzation of the nature of his squad. He had been able to figure out that Shisei was a somewhat cold, but brilliant strategist for his age, but he believed that Serena had the potential to lure a more sociable side out of the Orochi boy, at least enough to cause him to desire to work with the squad. No matter who was around in the squad, Sukotto felt like Serena was needed to hold them together, considering that she would be more at their level than Sukotto. Indeed, there was a fine line between the relationship of squad leader to squad member when compared to two squad members who shared equal rank as far as the team was concerned, and the Uchiha felt as though Serena would do an even better job at keeping the squad working as a team than he himself was even capable of doing. In addition, if, on the off chance, Sukotto was disabled or eliminated in a fight, then he figured that the Orochi would be able to step up to the plate and come up with a plan that would fit the best interest of the team, or so he hoped to train and convince the boy to do!

The blow at the boy’s chest made his body tilt upward. As Shisei drifted to ground, the Orochi landed knees first and skimmed across the gravel. Eventually his face and nose connected with the ground in the process of the rough slide. The motion stopped a three seconds later leaving the maverick face down in the dirt; his violet dreads in disarray like an angry squid flailing its tentacles. The gold eyes peered up to see the Raiken and Uchiha exchanging body language and smirks. He rolled his eyes. At least someone was having fun… Even though Serena held out her hand to help Shisei, the serpent youth did not acknowledge. He slowly returned to his feet while contemplating his next move. “Well I’ve established that flanking won’t work… A divisionary tactic may still be able to succeed though… Ohh and the Uchiha probably won’t attack the Raiken.”. The youth thought while considering his options.

It was a difficult puzzle to solve. Even if there are two of them, both genin and academy student were outmatched. The battlefield was open and did not contain many ways to use a sneak attack. There weren’t that many barriers or holes to hide in either. Most likely all of this the chuunin had taken into consideration already. Although that still didn’t mean the cliff couldn’t be used… If there was at least two more bodies they could have done a blitzkrieg or swarming like tactic and maintain pressure. This would keep him on the defense and eventually lead to a mistake. That was a dream though as there wasn’t any other bodies. It was a two on one in which the underdogs were the pair. A troublesome predicament, but just like chess there was a strategy out there that could be implemented for the situation. Shisei just had to find it.

“So… what should we do?”

The kunoichi stated with that twinkle in her eye and grin that the Orochi had come to know her for. “Yea.. good question…” the boy thought considering the next best approach. The back of his palm rubbed the bottom of his nose, while the other waved Serena to come closer. Shisei then turned away walking a few paces back. His voice then became low so hopefully the Uchiha could not hear. “As seen frontal assault or flanking will prove difficult. The area is wide and open too not allowing for many areas to hide. Although there is still some possibility… You do know Kawarimi and Bunshin no Jutsu correct? Also do you have any other weapons on you besides your staff.” the boy whispered still rubbing his nose. The fall treated his nose like it was getting grated. Still he continued.

“Our opponent is quick and analytical. Especially if he uses that Sharingan… Our best bet is either create a blind spot or debilitate his movement. Unfortunately I don’t see an opening as yet… This still maybe a trial and error phase…., but we can try this. You have better range with your staff than I do with my weapon. If I can at least keep him immobile can you strike him? I can only hold him for a second or two though so make sure you don’t miss. Unless you have a better idea?” the serpent finished his undertone. While he was self assured that his plans were superior over anything the mysterious girl could come up with the dread head was still interested to hear what she would come up with. If she could.

((If either of you have questions about how to use the teamwork system or about anything else, just PM me, I'm chock full of answers ^^))

Sukotto's grin widened as Shisei waved Serena over and began to converse with the girl. If this had been a realistic battle situation, most serious opponents wouldn't give them the chance to converse with each other, but instead would rush them as they seemingly allowed their guards to drop. However, Sukotto had actually encouraged this, so he definitely didn't mind when they took the time to talk strategy to each other, he only wondered what the pair of shinobi would come up with. Personally, the Uchiha would have liked to have opened with a team-based assault from the beginning. However, this would have been quite difficult for him to do, as he hadn't actually been adequately trained in the art of teamwork himself. He figured that he knew enough about it to teach it to others, especially after having fought the two most team oriented shinobi in all of Shimagakure, or so he thought, which was Maya and Baki. Since the teamwork plan wasn't really an option for him unless he was paired with someone who really excelled at it, Sukotto would have probably opened with some sort of genjutsu-taijutsu hybrid attack, like he had against his opponent at the Chuunin exams, and against one of the other powerful shinobi that had been brought up in Shimagakure, Tenmoki Aya.

+3 to both Serena and Shisei's focus rolls (if you decide to make them), since they decided to take Sukotto's advice from the start about talking strategy

Indeed, the bunshin trick that had become somewhat of a routine jutsu for the beginning of the Uchiha's various battles was quite effective in determining the defensive power of a given foe. For one, the combination assault tested the opponent's ability to see through genjutsu, giving Sukotto adequate information about their mental abilities. He figured that most shinobi who were able to see through genjutsu were also able to see through other tricks, such as charismatic tactics, and possibly even sneak attacks that were utilized by hiding from one's enemy. Indeed, if a shinobi was conscious enough to realize that they needed to train themselves in mental defenses, Sukotto figured that they'd also be conscious enough to quickly detect hidden enemies, since the two defenses were somewhat related to one another. If he was able to easily bypass his opponents defenses with this sort of technique, as had been the case with one of his previous opponents, then Sukotto figured that he'd either be able to continue hitting them with the same combination, or even spice things up a bit by throwing in a different genjutsu into the mix. Unfortunately, he hadn't managed to learn any advanced forms of genjutsu, as there weren't really any genjutsu based shinobi left in Shimagakure.
