-waves her hand wildly in the air- Ooh! Ooh! Pick me! I've got a really good one! What most all Phans hate:
MARY SUES AND MARY-SUE FANFICTION! biggrin
Because in reality, that stupid skinny little strawberry blond, blue/green/purple eyed little 'I'm so perfect' girl who can sing/dance/horseback-ride/act/swallow swords while carrying a walrus would never get Erik! She also would never oh-so-easily find her way/get lost and suddenly end up going, through the cellars and to him. stressed It just, irks me so much.
edit: -snickers- I accidentally put 'prefect' instead of 'perfect'. Too much Harry potter. xD

I mean, god damn it, how hard is it to write a decent, awesome character that people can relate to, instead of one that makes the reader want to smack the author upside the head a few times just for sheer obnoxiousness.

Between those Mary Sues and the ones that are the most pitiful creatures on earth, I have to hate the latter. I read one fanfiction where the OC was a middle aged "beauty" who was using the Opera House as a hideaway from her abusive husband. She took up a job as a seamstress and Erik started sending his clothes to her to get mended. Wtf. I would think Erik would either mend his clothes himself or, considering he yanked 20k francs from the theatre, pay a professional one.
Erik HATES the human race. Why would he give a damn if others suffer? He would probably say, "at least they have a face."

...that sounds very...strange, Uta.
I've written a story, but it's not a Mary-Sue thing at all. But I digress, again.
I hate when I call Erik, Erik, and people are like, "Who?"
They call themselves Phans...ha!

Most "phans" have been introduced through the 2004/05 movie or Webber's musical. Neither of which has a name for The Phantom, because Webber thought it would be more mysterious for him to remain nameless, and it gives Webber the opportunity to call the character his own. So, most just refer to him as The Phantom.

Yes, I know that. But needless to say, it bugs me. I only call him Phantom in desprate refrences where I can't explain to the person why he's called Erik.

I don't refer to him as anything as Erik unless I am addressing his titles (such as "Trap Door Lover" and, of course, The Phantom of the Opera). If the person has no idea who I am talking about, it's their loss. As cruel as it sounds, I don't lower my vocabulary or anything for the ignorant unless they are willing to learn.

On the subject of the last few posts, I tend to call Erik "The Phantom" when I'm referring to the ALW musical, because that's the name of his character in that particular version. Just because people say "The Phantom" instead of Erik doesn't mean they're not "true phans". Why discriminate people just because they haven't read the book? I don't mean to accuse anyone of anything, I'm just stating my opinion.

And all of them have read the book, or I've described him for them well enough. But yes, I agree. Unless they say it in all caps with no spaces and a lot of typoes, I'm fine with them calling him the Phantom. And as long as they don't say he's sexy but only with the mask.

Whether or not they call him Erik doesn't factor into it most of the time. If they can get on Gaia, they can get on Google and look up his name easily.

I'm going to let it take over my mind, so therefor the little Erik and CATS and Christian and Doctor in my head will have a large spurt of thoughts to blow Harry Potter out of my mind once more, and causing my to be completely and utterly enthralled and unable to stop thinking of them until another wave hits.
....Reason to my insanity...

I only call Erik "The Phantom" to clarify my meaning. Sometimes, though, people who know Erik's name ask me who I'm talking about because of how I pronounce it... It sounds better with a flipped R.
