"Er."
He dropped his hand, realizing what he was doing with some embarrassment, and wiped it on his jeans.
"...Well...I'm a writer. Children's books, mostly. They told me I could have a free place to stay, with free food...in return for writing an article...." A little sigh.
"They tricked me, and badly. But...at least I DO have some food...more than I had before I came here...and I don't have to go hungry."
His eyes saddened, though the grin stayed fixed. It was sickening, how easily they'd tricked him...and now....
'...You feel betrayed, don't you?'
He winced, hands jerking up towards his head...but he stopped himself before covering his ears, folding them on the table instead.

Amaya perked up, interested now moreso in his books then his... split-personalities. "Really? Did you bring any of your books with you or write any since you got here?" He seemed pretty sad about how he had been tricked, so she switched over to something he might be comfortable talking about.

He blinked...and his smile turned more genuine.
See, this is why he liked kids. They could often be SO much kinder than adults.
"...I haven't brought any...but I've been working on some stories." He brushed a lock of dark hair from his eyes before he continued.
"They...aren't...very good, though."

"Hey, you dunno that." Amaya stuck her tounge out at him. "I'd like to read them if you'd let me." She kicked her feet back and forth, something she haden't been comfortable enough with ever since she changed.

He blinked a few times, then laughed softly.
"...All right. When I finish one, you'll be the first to read it."
He leaned on one elbow, tail flicking behind him. He thought for a moment, then decided...maybe...he could try and make light of all this. Of course...his subconscious was doing weird things to his reasoning.
"...You know, this isn't all bad. I mean...I kind of like having claws."

Amaya smiled slightly, sipping the water bottle even though it was mostly empty. "They're good for scratching an itch and stuff, but they tear clothes if your not careful." She looked at her own claws, the yellow colour and un-natural lenght of her fingers making her cringe and place her hand back in her lap. The thought of Julian being insane was pretty much gone now, seeing him as a normal person like everyone else and someone to talk to.

"I suppose I've been very careful, then." A little laugh. "...Could have done without the tail, though, I think. And I still scare myself when I take my shirt off to bathe."
He blushed a little...he wasn't that great at small talk, and maybe that was too much info.

Even if it was too much information, she didn't seem to notice. "Yeah... I still can't look at my feet for very long without having my stomach turn." She leaned on the table, swirling the last bit of water around in her bottle and watching the light reflect off of it.

Julian glanced down to see what she was talking about...then back up to her face, grin broadening.
"They aren't that bad. At least they aren't all furry, or anything...." It was a good natured jest.
'...She is the chimney sweep.'
Julian paused in confusion, looking as if he would say something...then stopped himself.

"True, but their scaly." She stuck her tounge out, pretending she thought her own scales were icky... though she didn't REALLY mind them. Amaya caught him wanting to say something and blinked, waiting to see if he wanted to say it or not.

"Ah...."
He thought better of it, laughing nervously. "The scales aren't that bad. Fur is much itchier, I bet...."
'Why won't you acknowledge me, Julian?'
He paled. Uh-oh. It...probably wasn't a good idea to anger the Cat. But...then...Amaya might be frightened....

"Yeah, probably." Amaya wasn't that much into the conversation anymore, green eyes blinking at Julian. "... You okay?"

He winced.
"...Fine...just a headache...."
'Julian...don't LIE...she will find out anyhow, one way or another...either from you...or from me....'
All color drained from his face.
"...I know," he hissed under his breath, staring at the table. "...Stop it...."

Amaya kept silent and looked down at her water bottle, considering telling him that she knew because Ambrose blabbed or... no. It might make him hate Ambrose and she didn't want that. For the time being she kept silent, waiting for him to tell her or change the subject, whichever he wanted.

He hunched a bit in his seat, putting his hands over his ears.
"...Please, stop it...."
'All right then - if you won't tell her, I will do it myself. As simple as that.'
His eyes widened. "No...please, don't...please...."
