What does every one think to the Land Raider Helios? I was planning on converting one, but I wanted to know what every one thought of them. I've played with one once before, against a horde of orks, it killed seven orks and a Nob, but was then blown up by a lucky shot from a Mek's cannon, the teleporting one.

To be honest, I think they aren't that good. rules wise I couldn't care less. If you're getting a land raider get a terminus pattern. two more lascannons.

Well, it takes a little more than that to know if something is going to work out, obviously. The problem with all tanks and vehicles is that there is the off chance that a single well placed shot can blow it up with a single shot. I've even heard stories of people rolling chain sixes and blowing up titans with single shots. Give it a few more games and then see how you like it.

The Helios is another fine example of wasting a rather stupid chassis on something more stupid and ill-thought out. Either you use it as a heavy Whirlwind with lascannons or as a toned down Land Raider with a castrated interior capacity that can fire missiles.
You want gold, stick with the vanilla or Crusader, don't bother with the Helios and Promethius, both aren't worth the point to performance ratio in my opinion.
However, if you like the model and/or the background, by all means go for it.

I'll have a couple more practice games with it, since my friend has a converted one.
I might just get a predator actually, then I might buy a plasma cannon off a lad who has just bought one of the Russ sets.

It is odd thou that most special vehicles blow up more quickly then original ones. I´ve seen Crusaders blow up on 1st shots while ye-oldie Land Raider can take a heck of a pounting before even breaking up. surprised

Inenor will whirlwinds get rid of the nob biker "cloud of dust" special rule? If it´s an Invulnerable save that they get from the rule, the no.
If it´s a cover save, then the Incendiary Castellan will ignore it, unless otherwise noted on that special rule.
But I somewhat doubt nob bikers are that good to avoid a hellish firestorms wrath. <.<"

4+? this means ork bikers shrug off most cover-denying weapons... heavy flamers should do fine though, and terminators can happily powerfist anything that survives shooting.

The one problem with Nob Bikers is that they play musical wounds, so unless it's instant death, they get a 4+ cover save, along with a 4+ Feel No Pain save if the Ork player was smart enough to bring a Painboy along.
That, and have fun trying to flamer bikes that can move 18 inches with the assault, or 24 with turbo-boost if they don't feel like assaulting.

I wonder if GW publishes to sell the Wolf Guards in separate sprue-set, that assault cannons belt+ammoback looks awesome. :O

prob's best to keep this kind of talk to PM's. ok?
