"Well, I technically have jurisdiction over local authorities, and we know most of them anyway," Dari said with a grin, "but if it makes you feel like a bad boy, absolutely we almost got arrested." He nodded then. "Absolutely! Where would you like to go?"

Cody took his eyes off the road for a moment to look at Dari with wide eyes. "So you're some kind of secret agent?" he asked, when he'd recovered. "Secret identity and all that? Or...well. You can't tell me, right?" Was that the kind of government stuff Dari worked for? AWESOME!
"I was thinking I'd take you to that fancy Italian place in town."

Dari laughed and clapped his hands. Well he supposed he'd sort of insinuated that, hadn't he? Why did people always assume it was secret agent anyway? "Right," was all he finally said and settled back in.
"Ooh. Fancy. That sounds nice." But as a high school teacher, it probably wasn't financially smart for Cody, so obviously Dari was something special to the man.

He couldn't tell if Dari was joking or not; but it didn't really matter what the guy did for a living. They were together, and happy.
"I'll pick you up at six?" Cody asked. And next weekend, they'd spend the day watching movies and having pizza.

"Sure," Dari said with a nod. He wasn't sure what to wear, but he could probably as Toby... or Maia. Did you want to ask the man or the person attracted to them?
When they finally reached Dari's house, the lights in the kitchen and dining area were still on. Dari gave a bit of a concerned face, as if he were afraid for what might come, and got out of the car and headed up the walk.

Cody got out of the car and followed Dari quickly, taking his hand. "You didn't let me say goodnight," he said, and once they got to the doorstep, kissed him.
"Are you sure you don't want me to come in with you?"

Dari turned when Cody caught up to him and accept the kiss. It was little, harmless, but meaningful. He smiled then and nodded. "I'm sure." It would just complicate things.

"Alright, text me later so I know you're okay," Cody looked concerned. He didn't want Dari in trouble for coming home late. "I'm really looking forward to tomorrow," he said, releasing Dari's hand and giving him another quick kiss.

This kiss was more of a surprise, but wonderful nonetheless. He nodded and gave Cody a little wave down low before he went inside. He saw Toby standing in the kitchen, leaning against the door frame.
"I'm fine," Dari said.
"Good to know," Toby replied.

Maia had been sipping at tea at the dining room table. "I'm sorry we panicked," She said, going over to Dari. She took his hand. "Did you have a good time? Did you enjoy the hike?" Assuming that was where they'd gone. Toby'd been worked up, and she'd started to worry herself.

Toby came into the room properly with his own mug.
"I did," Dari said, "We went hiking, we had a picnic, we hiked some more, we got dinner, and then we went back and fell asleep."
"Back where?" Toby asked.
"The mountain."
"And you kiss now?"
Dari just grinned, and it was too hard for Toby to fight the smile on his own lips. Look at him. He was so happy. And he was okay. It had just been a scary few hours there near the end.

Dari had found a good guy his very first date, and for that Maia was glad. It could've gone badly, but she'd hoped Cody was as nice as he'd seemed that morning.
"I'm glad you had fun," Maia smiled at him. "Are you going to see him again?"

"We're going for dinner tomorrow," Dari said.
"Where?"
"Ludal's."
"Ooh..."
"Mm-hm. And as it turns out, this thing is pretty sturdy." Dari held up the hand his ring was on and flipped it back and forth. Not even a little bit of slippage.
"Good," Toby said, and came over to hug Dari, "I just--"
"I know." And that was all they needed.

A third date already! This Cody guy was definitely interested in Dari. Hm. Maybe they could invite them both somewhere? A double date. That way, they could get to know Cody. She'd suggest it to Dari later.
She watched the guys hug, then went over and hugged them both separately. "Next time, regular updates," she said, as she hugged Dari.

"Trust me, Cody isn't any danger to me," Dari said, "He's more harmless than I am."
"You could dissolve people with your very essence."
"Well you know what I mean," Dari said, "What he brought me hiking to see was--" No, you know what? That was their place. "It was just nature. It wasn't something spectacular, or some big castle, it was just nature."
Toby nodded. "How about 'updates when plans change'?" Can we at least all agree on that.
Dari nodded humbly. "Yes. I'm sorry."
