LV. 40 | Experience: 0/8000 | Hp: 520 /520 | Cp: 720/720 | MHp: 2200/2200 Shinichi answered with a jab with his walking cane to the boy's leg. The former shinobi didn't put his entire strength into it, but he made sure it hurt. A small taste of what the boy would be feeling in the future, if he was dead set on this path. Or what the boy would feel if he failed the challenge. The little kid better hope he doesn't fail in any of his attempts.
"Did you not hear what I said? I said tell me with your actions, boy. Unless you really want to die. Then I'll gladly help you reunite with your mother."
Besides, it wasn't exactly the answer he was looking for anyhow. Not the words he wanted to hear. It was very disappointing. Disappointing... did he really have any expectations of this kid? No, then he shouldn't feel any disappointment. The blind man shrugged it off. As to whether he would share his past well... that would depend on whether the kid could give him a good reason why he should even bother giving his story to a complete stranger. Especially when he hasn't even shed his history to his siblings.
+ 5 to Saito's next roll.

Saito's eyes widened as he was struck, his eye twitched as a warm sensation took hold of his thigh. Such pain! He looked down, wincing a bit as the pain surged at the spot, screaming at him to do something. No-- he was right. The man said with action. His first reaction was to grab his leg-- but that would be counter productive.
Pain was a sensation the body used to defend itself. In this case, there was no point to acknowledging this pain. He would die even if he tried to defend himself. It was simply better to resume with his plan.
He looked around, for something... anything. There weren't any logs or pebbles laying around. He felt his body-- patting himself down. He turned his head a bit, grabbing his pouch and tossing it.
As soon as the pouch dropped, he put all his power, his chakra exploding into his muscles. He felt the sudden drop in his pool of chakra as he sprinted with blinding speed towards the pouch and brought himself back. He didn't even get a chance to gasp from the sheer tension of the muscles as the Henge took effect on the pouch.
He stood beside himself-- or so it seemed, gasping, grabbing his thigh. He should've stretched-- silly boy. He suddenly ran his hand through the henge, the pouch on the floor. This time, the body had a right to complain.
"Kawarimi. Sucess."
A single sweat drop formed on his forehead as he picked up his pouch and tossed it once more. His shoulders were laxed as he simply glanced at the man. "What may I call you.", he simply noted while stretching for just a second.

LV. 40 | Experience: 0/8000 | Hp: 520 /520 | Cp: 720/720 | MHp: 2200/2200 Hmm... not even a yelp. The child must have already built up some tolerance for pain. But it wasn't enough to convince Shinichi that the boy was ready to call himself "shinobi".
He heard the rustling of clothes and the sound of an object flying... and landing on the ground. Then, he heard the of... feet dashing towards the landing site. And a patting sound, the object was now in the boy's hand.
"Kawarimi no Jutsu huh? Not bad."
However, he had a whiles to go before the boy could say he mastered it.
"Use the Kawarimi no Jutsu to dodge my attacks and I'll give you my name if you survive."
And with that, the blind man charged in the direction he had heard the boy's voice. His walking cane gripped in both hands and angled as if he was going to strike with a sword.
They say that people learn faster when something is on the line. When people are cornered, that battle potential is unlocked. Of course, while the man wouldn't be aiming to kill, or even go all out - what's the point of getting an answer if the person you're asking is out and unconscious? - he would swing hard enough to make sure the boy knew what "hurt" meant.
That is... if the boy could successfully perform the jutsu. In battle the enemy wouldn't be so courteous to wait for someone to finish their jutsu. The kid really shouldn't be so relaxed if the he believed Shinichi's bluff, if he really believed that he could die at any moment. That would be just plain careless. He needed to know this, if not in his mind then at least in his body.
Nodachi (customized): The Nodachi is a really big and long katana mostly used to deal with cavalry in open ground combat, however the sword can be also used for normal combat by skilled people. Shinichi has his customized to look like a walking cane. Damage: 1-2 + Str. mod (walking cane form) OR 1 - 12 + Str. mod. (unsheathed) Range: Melee + 5 feet Special: Can be used while mounted on a horse.
+ 5 to Saito's next roll.

Saito hunched a bit as the man started running towards him. He quickly looked to the pouch and suddenly ran in his usual burst of speed-- but his body failed him as his muscles gave out. Saito fell, his body dragging against the ground as the dirt rose.
Saito's teeth came together as half his face was scratched from the ground. The sheer speed it took to perform this technique wasn't easy-- and he was afraid he had pushed his body beyond it's limit but trying such a high chakra-controlled technique.
The Yakedo really hoped at this point he wouldn't die because of muscle failure. He looked at the dirt as the man drew closer. He smiled to himself. He couldn't die so easily.... he needed to live on for his mom. If he couldn't perform to this man's expectations, what good was he. He wasn't sure why the man was doing this-- but it really didn't matter what his reasons were. He was trying to for inspiration to learn into him...

LV. 40 | Experience: 0/8000 | Hp: 520 /520 | Cp: 720/720 | MHp: 2200/2200 ((Knowing your luck with dice, and the amount of Hp Saito has, I'm not going to add Shin's str. mod to his damage =_=.))
There was the sound of... feet running, most likely in the direction of the pouch, and a loud thud. No further movement. In that direction the man allowed his weapon to descend. Another loud thud and a peculiar expression began to form on his face. If Shinichi didn't know any better it was... a wince? But it wasn't like the boy would be able to see that behind his mask. His walking cane disappointingly made contact with, not the flimsiness that was cloth, but the firmness of bone. He had not hit the boy's pouch but the boy's... chest? Back? He would have to poke the boy a few more times to figure that out, but the effort might be unappreciated.
"You're lucky this isn't a real sword."
Lucky it isn't unsheathed.
"Or perhaps you aren't." The blind man bluffed, pausing in his attack. "I hear being beaten to death isn't a fun way to die. Not that I've ever experienced it myself. If you keep this up, you can confirm it for me."
There was the flapping of feathers, wings... and the rustling of trees. No doubt the sudden movement had disrupted his songbirds. Inwardly, the man was cussing at the kid on the ground. His frustration with the boy increasing, though it was mostly over his lack of action than his failure. He was quite aware of the fact that most students will fail at least once in their attempts to master the Kawarimi no Jutsu. Or any jutsu for the matter. Lord knows he has for all the genius he claimed to have in his younger days.
'You fall down so get back up. Your attacker pauses to talk, so you take that time to ******** move. The hell are you sitting down there looking at, dumb a**!?'
Then, he turned around in the direction of heavy breathing and swung his blade once more. This time, he would try to aim for the boy's head. To knock him out of his stupid day dreaming. Though he still held back, not wanting to knock the boy out of conscious. Not yet.

Saito Yakedo MHP: 22/22 | HP: 16 - 2 =14 | CP: 10 - 2 = 8 Saito took a heavy hit to the back, wincing as the man smacked him. He wasn't hitting him with killing intent, but he surely realized his failure. The boy slowly rose to his feet and began walking. He was limping a bit. He looked down, one leg was on it's tippy-toes. He should've been more careful. He hadn't taken into account such pain that would ensue. Saito was starting to realize that his body wasn't at par with the average shinobi-hopeful his age. Why was this? He ran with his father so much-- he practiced healthy nutrition. It wasn't even his lack of sleep because he'd suffered this lack of physical ability earlier during his other trainings. Saito shook the thoughts out of his head.
"I hear being beaten to death isn't a fun way to die. Not that I've ever experienced it myself. If you keep this up, you can confirm it for me."
Saito glanced to him. He wondered if Zephyr would train him by threatening him so~ He smiled weakly, Zephyr didn't seem this senile. He didn't even look the part. Suddenly, he glanced at the man, who was turning-- swinging.
Suddenly he jerked forward, his chakra leaving him as he leaped to the pouch, bringing it back and letting it take the hit from the cane. He gasped once more, kneeling as the pouch was struck to the side. He eyed it, then looked up to the man.
"Kawarimi. Sucess...", he replied to the action, huffing. The innocent voice stopped to slowly rub his thigh, before forcing himself to his feet. He didn't want to get smacked again...

LV. 40 | Experience: 0/8000 | Hp: 520 /520 | Cp: 720/720 | MHp: 2200/2200 Shinichi was pleased to find that the object he struck was lightweight. Sounded like it arched high in the sky and fell with a small 'plop'. A noise humans couldn't exactly produce with their entire weight.
"Pfffft. You call that a success?" He taunted.
He began to walk around, pretending to search for the boy's location. But Shinichi already knew where the boy was. The heavy breathing had already given him away. Even a normal civilian could hone in on that with the right mental concentration. Hmm... he'll have to correct that somehow as well. Wait... what was he even thinking? That almost sounded like something a teacher would say. Shinichi inwardly smothered the thoughts. This was just... for his own curiosity. The boy had yet to properly answer his question.
"That pathetic kawarimi only earns you my surname... Shirayuki."
The child had yet to master the jutsu. His performance was still awkward. The application of chakra still jittery and sporadic. The timing all too slow. If he was five years old again, he would have been able to hit the child even with the substitution in place.
"Dodge this next one and I might tell you my first name."
After pausing for another five seconds, he turned back to the boy's direction and aimed to jab at his midsection. In the gut, unprotected by his ribs where it will surely hurt if he made contact.

Saito Yakedo MHP: 22/22 | HP: 14-1 = 13 | CP: 8 Saito looked at the man as he said his surname. Shiruyaki? He'd heard it before somewhere. Saito limped a bit, looking to his pouch as his mind wandered, wondering-- Of course he'd heard of it. It was recent, yet he'd already forgotton.
His mind clicked.
Kaede. The stuttering ball of stress. He'd met her briefly when he first met Zephyr. Could this be her brother-- or fathter? It didn't seem as if these two were alike. The persona was completely dynamic. The Yakedo wanted to ask but the man raised his cane once more, coming in for a jab.
Kawarimi!
He stepped to it, suddenly letting his feet singe with chakra as he grabbed the pouch, running it back. He tripped a bit, wincing in forced reflex. As a result-- he wasn't able to disguise the pouch and took a heavy jab in the stomach. The Yakedo's eyes widened as he almost fell to his knees, gasping for air...
No..
The wide, beautiful teal eyes looked up to the man, tearing up. Not of sadness, or pain, but determination. One palm was against the ground, refusing to let the boy fall...
He stood back up, clenching his gut. He could do this... it wasn't impossible.

LV. 40 | Experience: 0/8000 | Hp: 520 /520 | Cp: 720/720 | MHp: 2200/2200 Though his cane connected with the child's body, Shinichi was pleased to see that the boy had learned. Learned to get up back on his feet after falling down. Even if the boy had done it unconsciously, without realizing that is one of the things his attacker wanted to see. All right. So the kid comes with the will too. But...
"You seem to have a nasty habit of tripping."
Just how long can the kid keep it up? Even the most powerful, the most willful of shinobi will occasionally get tired of getting back up. There is a certain tolerance point everyone has. Best the kid knew what his tolerance point was out of battle, than in battle, where it could endanger himself or his teammates. Best he knew what it meant to truly "fall"...
"I can hear uneven steps... Limping? Displaying your weakness so in front of your enemy without care? What, you confident you can win with a handicap just because your opponent is blind? Sorry to say, I'm going to burst that ego, brat."
This time he would try to aim for the boy's legs. Even if he's in pain, a shinobi should never reveal their weaknesses unless it was to bait. Unless it was to feign... to get the opponent to underestimate you, but the huffing and the stumbling appeared to be authentic.

Saito Yakedo MHP: 22/22 | HP:13 | CP: 7 The boy looked up to the man with fierce intent, he wavered a bit, turning to toss the pouch. He wasn't trying to make fun of his blindness-- but supposed he had in a way showing his weakness. Truth be told, the limping hadn't even entered his mind...
Such simple things. How did Shinobi become so strong?! He looked down to his thigh, holding it for a second, as if to try and fix the problem. He'd need to ignore it...
"I'm sorry sir. I'll try not to limp.", The Yakedo said silently. As he finished, the man sent another lateral blow aimed at his thigh. It was a reaction, his eyes widening. The familiar burst of chakra was more consistant this time, and far more controlled. He turned and sped towards the pouch. Again, not even a breath passed as he placed the henge on the pouch. He appeared behind the man. Silent....
He slowed his breathing, bringing his hands together, clearning his mind. Not to show weakness...
His beautiful eyes opened to see the cane catch the student's pouch...

Good.
His steps were still a tad uneven and the rhythm of his breathing a little erratic, but both were less blatant. Less obvious. Even a genin... maybe a chuunin would have trouble being able to notice it. Without putting in the effort to concentrate and listen and look for them. This kid will live a bit longer if he does that. If he keeps practicing.
"You really piss me off."
Did he sound angry enough? He'd like to think his acting wasn't too shabby.
A thud.
The kawarimi no jutsu was a success. And this time, the boy had more tact to refrain from saying, "Kawarimi success" and giving away his location. But there was still much more the kid had to learn. There was still that unanswered question. The kid was getting closer now... but had paused.
...?
What's the kid waiting for? His opponent's back is right in front of him. A perfect chance to strike. Or hide. Or even run away to avoid a supposed death at the blind man's hands. Shinichi would wait a bit. He'd walk around pretending to search for the boy. Then, he'd come across the area he had heard the pouch land, picked it up, and pocketed it.
"This pouch pisses me off. Getting in the way of beating the s**t out of you."
What will the kid do now?
Abruptly, Shinichi turned around and charged, pulling his cane into another downwards sweep, where he assumed the boy's knees were.

Saito Yakedo MHP: 22/22 | HP:13 | CP: 6
Saito watched as the man walked to his pouch, cursing and all. He really reminded him of an angry grand-parent. The boy related the image to his grand-father, who used to walk around the house, yelling at his father. The two would then proceed to argue because Hashimi had a long day at work, and the old man refused to compromise during the various arguments they had. Something little from taking off the shoes in the wrong place-- ahh. Such memories...
He closed his eyes, smiling for a second. His happiness was short lived as the man pocketed his pouch. The boy's eyes widened as the man lunged towards him. Oh~
Saito quickly hunched over as the cane moved towards him. A puff of smoke ensued. The man would find nothing there. Simply Saito-kun's shirt...
At the last moment, he was able to quickly tear away his shirt and leave it as the base for a henge. Saito appeared on a branch near the man, his feet dangling as he looked down, his breathing was now normal. Saito was spent though-- he'd spent nearly half this chakra. But he'd learned it... He's learned it.
"Thank-you.", he said softly, jumping down from the branch.

LV. 40 | Experience: 0/8000 | Hp: 520 /520 | Cp: 720/720 | MHp: 2200/2200 Shinichi pulled his cane close to pull the object off. Cloth. Body warmth is still lingering, which meant it was on the boy's person just recently. Feels around and finds a giant hole hole and two little holes... a shirt. The... sleeves weren't long enough to be a sweater. Not bad. Managed to come up with a feasible substitution and performed the kawarimi no jutsu quick enough to dodge the hit. If that isn't proof of mastery of the jutsu, he didn't know what was.
"Shinichi," he says, lowering his cane. "Shirayuki Shinichi."
However... the boy had only shown him that he was serious about becoming a shinobi. The man pulls out the boy's pouch and begins to toss it up and down in his hand.
"Don't thank me just yet. Last one, and I might let you go... but only if you pass."
He deliberately pauses a bit. Maybe to instill apprehension in the boy. Maybe to give the boy time to prepare himself for whatever might come.
"Hypothetical scenario: You are engaged in combat. Your left arm is paralyzed by senbon. One of your cellmates is unconscious and lying on the ground behind you. Let's say pretend that flower behind you is your hypothetical cellmate. Your right arm holds an important scroll your cell is sent to retrieve. And this pouch is a kunai with an explosive tag on it that is timed to explode in .02 seconds. What do you do?"
He throws the pouch at the boy.

Saito Yakedo MHP: 22/22 | HP:13 | CP: 6 Saito leaned forward, taking the pouch. He stared at the pouch then glanced at the Shinichi. His lips parted for a moment. That was a very good question. Considering there wasn't even half a second, either he could escape with the scroll and leave his comrade to die. Or he could let go of the scroll and save his partner. It was a choice most shinobi were to know clearly. Shinobi were just tool..
Who cares about these tools truly. For the sake of the mission and the success, these tools were merely disposable. His beautiful yet apathetic emerald gaze met the man's.
While the rules said this... "Shinobi rule four of Konohagakure no Soto states that that A shinobi must always put the mission first...", he replied clearly, looking away as he walked closer to the man. He picked up his shirt and slowly put it back on and turned at the waist, fixing his pouch.
"However..."
He continued with a huff, patting down his shirt. "Yondaime Hokage, Minato Namikaze, said that the rules were infallible; and in the end it would be inhumane to be inhuman. Sometimes the rules should be broken..."
With that the boy slowly began walking away, looking at the clouds. "Yes. Shinichi, those who disobey the rules are dishonorable scum.", he stopped for a moment, his bangs slowly shifting with the calming wind. "But those who put a piece of paper before the life of a comrade aren't even worth spitting at..."
