The best way to teach someone is teach them.
Incorrect. Every
quality RPer in FFA and O/M either figured out how to RP on their own or got their a** kicked by people who were already decent RPers and learned on their own as they clashed with them over and over. Probably the most fun battle I'm in right now, which should have been a guaranteed victory but wasn't, is being waged against someone who I met two years ago when I destroyed his guild and set his character on fire and called him a ******** incompetent retard, and now he plays almost as well as I do - despite having never had a master.
On the other hand, the brief trend of teaching and having apprentices resulted in a bunch of half-literate idiots who worshipped the AMP and their master like retarded gods, and each new generation of apprentices was stupider than the last - to the point where I actually judged people's quality by how many links there were in people's learning chains, as those who learned from those who learned from those who learned from those who learned from the halfway-decent turned out pretty shitty, as a rule.

If you have a problem with literacy, then screw you. Go back to using asterisks and first person perspective, ******** n00bs. While your at it, get off the computer andread a book. While you are reading it, notice both how it is long, and that the author prabably enjoyed himself while writing it.
*raises hand* I have a problem with illiteracy, and the only thing that gets me through reading gigantic posts is the fact that I can go and display the multitude of spelling/grammar mistakes for all to see. Ertai and his crew make long posts, sure, but they're not very literate. I notice when I read books that they are long and do not have any obvious grammatical mistakes, nor do they usually have any spelling mistakes at all. "Literacy" != "long posts".

Kuro, one question. What books are you reading with the same level of detail as Ertai?
I can only think of a few, most often those books are taken up by characterization and the moving of characters from place to place. Very few authors put forth even a fraction of the detail most of the people here do for battle scene description.
Books leave an acceptable amount to the human imagination. For example, books rarely go into detail about a character's eyebrows, unless that character attacks with its eyebrows, and even then it wouldn't go indepth to the point of describing the way the nerve impulses stimulate the superfollicles powering the super eyebrows. On the other hand, most books focus much less on battles, and more on character development - which is against Ertai's principles or something.
